Not all fashion rules are worth following but follow these rules and you’ll definitely level up your outfits. Whenever I talk about fashion rules I can pretty much guarantee to get people fired up . . . and for good reason. I mean most of us don’t really like being told what to do at the best of times and when it comes to fashion we don’t like the idea of someone dictating our personal style of even worse telling us it’s wrong. For today’s episode I’ve been looking at the current trends and seeing some simple styling tricks that are levelling up outfits and thought I’d compile a few of them in today’s video. And because I like to say that rules are meant to be broken - if you don’t agree with any of these rules then just leave them. I’m simply trying to share what I’ve seen happening recently and give you some inspiration to tweak some of your own outfits and give them a little more stylish.
But I'd love to know what you think about these rules and if there are some new "fashion rules" you think are worth following.

I think people forget that everyday there are newcomers seeking fashion tips and tricks. Not everyone has been following fashion for years to know about certain trends. Awww, of course!!! 🥰 I am a sucker for everything color, but in my quest to add neutrals to my wardrobe, elevate my style a bit, I found myself in need of an ivory handbag. It's the 'fashion of today' rather than change a channel, watch it all and complain about everything!! All the old shows on TV now 'inappropriate' for the modern Waagh, Waagh mindset of today!!! So everything is dull and boring, as we all have to be sludge grey...how dare anyone be different, unless of course they are fruitloop different, then we are all expected to worship that!!! Crazy crazy world we live in!!
I have basic white tees from Old Navy that are close to 20 yrs old now. They are 100% cotton (not tissue paper thin) & scoop neck (I hate a crew)when they start looking dingey or yellow I soak them in Oxiclean & they look brand new. it's now difficult to find pure cotton tees, most are poly blends or modal & very sheer. Black pants & jeans are everywhere, so is dark denim or navy pants. Just buy good quality within your budget. Personally I prefer to invest in footwear (prefer real leather) & a good coat or purse in a neutral color. Even high quality items will show wear & tear if worn & laundered often. So you might need multiples at a lower price point. Most likely the trends will change or you will tire of it before you wear it out, so there's no need to break the bank on tees, jeans, seasonal only wear clothing imo.

I like my wide leg trousers and jeans almost touching the floor no matter what shoes I wear, don’t like short trousers legs, I don’t wear heals but I like flatforms so I have different lengths of trousers to suit different shoes 👍

I agree Peg. We usually don't get much negativity at all on my channel - perhaps it's just a sign of the times? People are struggling and doing it tough and perhaps this becomes a bit of an outlet? I'm not sure really but it's a bit sad :(

I usually wear a belt if my belt loops are showing. Plus, I need one many times to hold my pants up at my waist. I usually buy up a size for my larger hips & thighs which means the waist is too big. Sometimes I take my pants to the tailor. I did skip a belt with my black pants recently. I still tucked my blouse in and wore a blazer but no belt.
Wearing ballet flats with wide leg pants is interesting. I remember that was a huge “no” back in the day. Fashion is always changing.
I love ballet flats with just about anything. Wore mine with shorts the other day. Thrilled they’re trending.

YES about keeping the "tones" of outfits the same! In my opinion that's usually the reason an outfit looks off, is the tones are mixed!!

I am so happy to live in a time when basically the new rule is NO rules!😁 For me fashion is fun and I can use my mum's clothes from the 80's & 90's and also get inspiraton on previous decades ( love 6o's too) with a twist of something edgy/modern. Just wear what u want that makes u look and feel nice and pretty😊

I love the jeans you're wearing! I've found that when taking up wide leg pants (I'm a shorty) I make the front slightly shorter than the back, so you still have that break over the front of your foot but the back gives you that skimming the floor look. There are several youtube videos on how to do it.

When I think of supreme style, and a classic icon of style I think of Katherine Hepburn 💖. She is unmatched on menswear style brought to excellence. This is how I dress and the Ralph Lauren urban and Western look is also along those clean and beautiful lines. I wear wide leg and straight pants, but mostly wide leg...and I am also 5 foot 11 inches tall so it's very hard to find them in a long length. Thus, the shorter, or crop culottes work just great for me. Thanks for the videos, and ignore the haters😊
I wish I knew exactly what pair warmer tone colors with other warmer tone color, same for cool tones with other cooler tones would look like. It sounds right what you're saying, but I just don't have examples. I love all your videos by the way, fun and helpful. And you always model the best outfits.

I'm 57 and I've never, ever worn my jeans without a belt! I think the thought just never crossed my mind. It'd be like getting dressed without putting on your underwear. It's just second nature to wear one.

It’s hard for me to not wear a belt. I’ve always thought it pulled the look together.
Regarding the matching leathers: I think a completely different colour looks current but a perfectly matching (belt and shoes, for example) can look great too. The issue is more when the colours are quite close but are the wrong tone (notoriously the case for tans!), that the effect can come off as “trying too hard” but missing the mark.

I think it was a difference in the way they were using the word tone, in their respective videos, to be honest. Neither is wrong.

All the styling ideas are amazing however, wearing color black is not applicable in the Philippine weather this summer because of high temperature. It really depends on your place and practically.
Isn’t it interesting how trends come and go. What was deriguer one year is totally out the next. I think it’s fun to look at trends but wear what makes you feel and look fabulous, regardless of rules or trends.

Question for women, i am a straight male who wants to dress more feminine, nothing hyper feminine like dresses and skirts, something like oversized womens clothes, mostly tshirts hoodies and sweatshirts, if i was to wear that on daily basis, would you find me less attractive or be uncomfortable around me?
I see nothing wrong with that. Dress in a way that make you feel comfortable and confident. Someone who is authentic attracts a potential mate that appreciates that quality.
Not a fan of some trends… oversized, wide leg pants, crop tops… it is all you see in the shops right now
If you can buy more than one pair, then other neutrals are OK. I still say if you can only afford one pair of shoes or boots then it needs to be black. Other neutrals are not going to pair as well with everything in your closet.
It is difficult to style these loose fitting sloppy pants. Most women look totally lost and figureless in them. They are going to an extreme. Slim straight leg pants are infinitely more stylish.i do love those neutrals with a splash of color.

Just remember what is out this year will soon be in .....remember when everything was leopard and we were told to toss all of it? I didnt. And voila leopard is in again...ILl be wearing one piece at a time. I have a great leopard tote that will look super with black or a brown silk blazer I have. I wont wear both at the same time though.

I think the negativity is because her tips are outdated and recycled. There's nothing new or mind-blowing from what I see. Either way, it is what it is.

Alot of this information is old news. Color combinations didn't have visuals with them. Then don't match colors in your outfit or accessories but match your denim. Unless pieces come as a set it is hard to match denim. Most of this video contradicts other rules or is common sense. Then how is the sponsor going to be a luxury handbag company but the next rule is not needing to buy expensive basics. Not a good segue.
Agree that there is a lot of old information. Specifically, matching shoes and handbags have not been done in decades. Navy & black has been acceptable for many years. I remember it being a thing years ago and I started wearing navy & black together back then and have been wearing it together for years since then. In fact, if is one of my favourite color combinations. Black for summer I agree is a relatively new "style rule".

Please do your research. Your coming across as negative Nancy. Songmont is not considered a luxury handbag line. It's midrange. A luxury handbag line would be Gucci, YSL, Channel, Prada or.a line like Hermes. A basic Is a white t-shirt or a white button down, a pair of jeans, maybe a blazer, or a pair of black trousers. Words like style, trends or fashion simply have different meaning than influencers and media is telling us. Using nevtrals is responding to mimicry, to blend in and lately to "mass fashion" or as misused word "style". Word "specific" corresponds to word "style".

Hmmmm it's tricky. Mine is the medium and it definitely doesn't feel too big. I suppose it depends on how you plan on wearing it the most and how big your phone is. Sorry that I can't be any help -eek!
