  • As we are doubling the power output of the car I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the rear brakes from Drum to disc using a full bolt on kit from Heritage Parts Centre.

Great skills, the Golf is looking brilliant. Iconic car and classics deserve to be brought back to life with modern power, brakes and suspension.

Looking really nice now Dan the Golf is coming along nicely, when I used to fit those type of bearings I used to torque them down to a set number then back them of a little to preload the bearings, cant remember the exact figures but it was in the workshop manual for the car 🙏👍

Very fine Golf! Important issue. Drive the car to rust protection in dry weather before driving in wet weather.

Hey, Dan. Just watched the house and this, back to back; as always enjoy the content on both channels. I think both will be amazing, but just a little word of wisdom, if you don’t mind? Neither you or your Mrs can do everything all at once. Pace yourself and be proud of each little job you complete. Think of it like a loading bar…it will complete eventually. Keep going, mate.❤️

We used to put a wheel on and then make sure the wheel turned with no resistance but not loosely job done

Totally agree. Looking for comments about adjustment for bearings and only your comment found. In video I also saw blocked brake disc. When the wheel take its place, the bearing will be heated and needed to be replaced

Nice kit to put rear disc brakes and Mk4 calipers on this Golf 🇬🇧 I will have check out this above kit at Heritage Parts, since I have Mk1 and Mk2 Sciroccos that need the drum brake upgraded since my cars will need more stopping power like your GTI 😎 Also glad to wheels on this Golf and sitting on the ground!

My Mk 2 had 15" BBS's, pain ted silver and a polished lip. Just suited the car......(car was Opel Monza Red, solid base coat).

Defo dont overtighten the centre nut. Yours is spot on! The result is it crushes the bearing and very quickly it will collapse....Ive experienced it, its not good!

nice work , you should fit a brake pressure regulator for the rear disc conversion or they will lock up

Making good progress there Dan got to be said the mk1 golf is every 80/90s boy racers dream build I would of put a vr6 with a 6 speed box 🤪🤪 but a 20v still a weapon will be awesome to see it completed ✔️ soon come & good luck with the new house 🏡

20v turbo is the better choice...vr6 is to heavy for cornering in a mk1....

Hi Dan, I have been looking at this conversion kit also. Looking at a few forums people say you need brake compensators to stop "over braking" at the back? Will you be fitting them and if so could you share where you found them for sale? Cheers mate. Really awesome build so far!

You can take off the 2kg golfclub on top of the shifter mechanism.
It's only there for positive feel when granny shifting.
In this case it's not necessary and it's kind of fugly in the shaved engine bay.

your nuts are too tight when they heat up you can tighten it just tighten to the point that there is no resistance from your discs @pepebikes #caribegtbergcup
