If you use a "50" tier gpu or lower and a cpu that's not power hungry, you'll be fine. But if your power draw is anywhere in the 400s then I'd look into a new PSU. Get *at minimum* an 80+ bronze from a good brand and be sure to get at least 100-200 more wattage than you need. Gold or modular PSU would be better obviously but that'll depend on your budget.

      To select proper PSU you need some literacy and common sense. First, find out TDP of your CPU and GPU and sum them. Then check +12V current rating of your PSU , and multiply them (i.e. 12 V x 30 A) . This result should be at least 25% higher than aforementioned sum of TDPs.

      @@itmkoeln That isn't the point he's making. It's very well documented that Windows 11 will run on older hardware. His point is that someone is selling (what I assume to be) a licensed copy of Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. That raises concerns ranging from Windows 11 refusing to update itself at some point in the future, to and/or excessive future support calls if/when Windows 11 stops working on that class of hardware. Unsupported Windows 11 on old hardware is a great choice for end users, but it's a very questionable choice for an OEM.

    So funny that you bring up the 2011 socket.... Literally just finished upgrading my 5820k x99 and 2080super rig last night. I loved that cpu. Was still running everything at max at 1440 for the most part.
    Now at 13900ks and 4090 TUF. Bit of a jump. But yeah I know they were a dead end but the 2011-3 series was a beast for running a couple servers and gaming off of that that rig.

  • @foxs49er
    @foxs49er 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just handed down my 5960x, X99, quad channel 16 gigs of ram (4x4), and gtx980 to my niece. It was a beast that aged reasonably well. The heat that thing put off is insane when overclocked. While it did cost me my left arm new, its is still running like a champ. To be honest I sorta wish I just bought a 3080 for it instead of an entire new pc with 11900k. CPU wise there wasn't much of a jump going from 5960x to 11900k. But to be fair the 5960x cost 3x as much new.
    Edit: I just remembered my x99 had 8 ram slots with quad channel (i just never needed more than 16 gigs). 8 ram sticks is probably what Dawid's wet dreams are made of

My first thought would be to see if there is a new/different BIOS that you could install on the MB that would let you make changes. Followed up by some better cooling and maybe a 3070....then you could get CP2077 on high settings maybe.

    • @DraftySatyr

      Good luck finding that "new/different BIOS" ... I played around with a X79 socket 2011 AliExpress board back during the first lockdown, and the BIOS was a vanilla as I've ever seen. No BIOS update available from manufacturer (Atimeter, if I remember right) but an exceptionally dubious English-language Russian forum was offering BIOS workarounds so you could lock all 12 cores to 3200 MHz. I wasn't crazy enough to do that then, and with the current unpleasantness in Ukraine, I am certainly not going to do so now!

      People even ask 200€ for 4960x and 100€ for 3960x those are X79 CPUs… Based on Ivy Bridge and even Sandy bridge…
      That is why you would normally find a E5 v3 or v4 Xeon paired with these Chinese X99 boards. Back in the Broadwell and Haswell Days Xeons shared the socket and would work on desktop 1150 and enthusiast 2011-3 boards. With 6th Gen and the Arrival of DDR4 with Skylake Xeons were microcode locked out on anything but Workstation boards…

    The i7 5960x was not intels first 8 core. Maybe in terms of the i-series, but xeons had 8 cores way before that. I'm still using a sandy bridge 8 core in my gaming/streaming system. In terms of the memory, on these motherboards you sometimes need to manually set dual channel/quad channel memory in the bios. That may be why you didn't see a performance increase from the ram. Some of them don't actually support quad channel even tho they say it so it depends on which board you got.

    the motherboard code readout "19" is most likely a DIMM error. When enabling "overclocking" it's probably looking for a dual or quad channel memory configuration so it fails. Also the 5950x supports 2133MHz RAM maximum, so could be a problem there. You may need to enable overclocking AND configure the memory in the BIOs before rebooting. Finally, you should check out Miyconst for a BIOS version for that motherboard that actually fixes the Intel Turbo Boost.
