    I work as a tax auditor. This vid is pretty accurate about it overall. We don't make the same amount as in private/public but the work-life balance and benefits more than make up for it. If you really wanted to boost up your income while working in government you could always just do a non-accounting/tax related side hustle or start a non-accounting/tax related small business. For me personally, I would definitely not sacrifice the work-life balance even for a higher salary. Just not worth it to me.

    I work for a municipally owned utility company. We follow GASB and FERC Accounting. We work a lot different from normal city functions but still follow the GASB basics. There is a work-life balance, which I love. The two most important times of the year are audit and budget. There are times when I work more than 40 hrs a week, but it's not a big deal. Stephanie thank you for explaining this so well. Not a lot is said about Governmental Accountanting. It's not as glamorous lol

    Thanks for the shoutout girl! I absolutely love my position as a State Auditor so if anybody has any questions about working for the state - let me know! I did an upload a couple months ago talking about our busy seasons and earning compensatory time instead of overtime so that may help any curious accounting minds that are trying to decide which route to take in this big accounting world. We are also pushed to get the CPA license - something many people don’t realize. Haha thanks again, Steph!

    Thank you, very much for your insights! I am still a junior in college and noticed that it was an area that hasn't received much attention (in relation to public accounting) in my professional development course.

    I'm taking governmental accounting now and it's a pretty easy and chill course. I may or may not consider it down the road as a career. I hope you and Juicy are doing okay, there are always parts of our lives when we go through hard times, but remember there is always a light at the end of the tunnel! :)

    Thank you! I got part up in one all the other aspects and felt it wasn’t a good fit because of the hours! Specialization is better for my design. New sub! 🖤

    I'm a governmental accountant and myself and coworkers make well into the 6 figures. We always get back pay for when there is a shut down and that stuff about there being a limited amount of funds available to pay accountants is laughable. I've talked to CPA who work 3 times the hours I do and make less as a whole not to mention on an hourly basis the pay is very poor compared to government accountants.

      What’s the background of your position? I just started as a staff at a public accounting firm, and I’m not sure where I want to move my career after putting in a few years at my current firm and getting my cpa

      @@jackmeddling I started as an auditor with the Inspector Generals Office and then transferred to an accountant position after three years. I also got my CPA.

    I'm currently taking a governmental accounting class right now, and it is killer lol. Probably doesn't help that the class only has about 5 weeks left and the professor still hasn't posted a lecture for the FIRST chapter (it's an online class)...but still, it's interesting to try to sort through GAAP vs GASB rules and procedures. I'm hoping it comes to me soon hahah.
    Loving the car chats!

    Hello Stephie, what tips would you give to someone who (hopefully) is going to become first year senior in public accounting next year? Like how to deal with managing a small team of staffs and dealing with the managers. Thanks!! Hugs from Spain

      @Mike that is not true for federal government. It is 30 plus a percent for each year in excess of 30 years.

    Is it harder to land a government job vs. private vs. public?

    • @brotherantoinemoore7390
      @brotherantoinemoore7390 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say government jobs aren't as hard as private because they just say for fderal gov gain at least one year or less of accounting experience private they are looking for a really good experience accountant maybe little harder than government when it get to doing you job

      @James you have to be3 in the right place at the right time. It helps if you are a veteran or a minority.
