Great video. Was wondering if you could help with my situation; I had a typical phone interview, it went great. The call ended and < 20 mins later I got a phone call back asking for my nuclear power school certifications so they could send them to HR for the qualification process. The hiring manager ended her email with "Great interview, we will reach out soon." It's been almost 2 weeks, and I havent heard anything back yet. Should i send a follow up email or just assume I didnt make the cut
2 weeks isn't too long after an interview. Also the hiring manager doesn't make the offer. They have to turn everything into HR for that. If you don't hear anything in another week I'd reach out to HR and check the status.

You're very welcome! I see educators selected all the time. The key is to be realistic about what grade you're will to start out. If you are just getting started you'll want to watch the resume video too. The resume is where everything has to be tailored to get qualified for any position.
I have had 3 interviews with the VA, the first was an epic fail because it was my 1st time having a PB interview , the second went well, but not selected, the 3rd was another epic fail , so I’m praying this 4th if I actually get the opportunity to interview will go well..your video is right on point! My references were contacted and I was wondering how much longer does it normally take afterwards if a TO is to be offered? The guy contacting my references seemed pretty enthusiastic about me and I'm on pins and needles roght now. I've contacted HR asking if I'm still considered for the position and they just keep saying I am still be considered for the position
The hiring manager does the reference checks before they make a selection. Assuming the reference checks went well it could take a couple days for the hiring manager to send their selection to HR and for a TJO to go out. HR won't know anything until they get the selection back from the hiring manager.
It's been almost a month since my references were contacted :( I reached out to the HR if I was still being considered and they haven't reached back out to me
I apply for a federal police job in San Antonio Texas the interview for me was very easy and it was not hard at all. From the interview to a tentative job offer took 4 weeks 3 days. Now I am in the investigation background part but I already have a secret clearance and I submitted the memo to that so hopefully that speed up the process they even gave me a relocation incentive that I didn't know was part of the job so I'm happy😂😂😂 yes it's a GS5 but a 12 months it'll be a gs-7 I'm so excited for this because I always wanted to get into the federal government even though active duty military is considered the federal government but you know it doesn't really count

Hello. I’m currently in the interview stage of a position for a government job supporting the army. It’s a gs-12 based in Arlington. I had my first interview on Wednesday and they asked to meet for a panel tomorrow (Monday) less than a week later. What do you think their since of urgency might suggest? And also, what questions for the second interview should I expect? There is only one more new person in the panel compared to last time
Hiring managers always want to get interviews done quickly so they can fill their spots. They also have to work around their schedules. The second interview is usually when there are a few candidates that scored close on the first one. Second interview could be more technical or more personality type questions.

Is it worth applying for customs before I graduate with a bachelors degree in the spring 2023? Based on the grading system it doesn’t seem like I’m likely to not be referred. Thank you
@@federalhiringadvice1385 okay. The job posting states that I qualify for the lowest grade level if I graduate within the next 9 months, I fit that criteria. However I have no experience as I am still a college student. All I have for experience is a courthouse internship
@@gcruz1388 in that case, if you don't meet the minimum requirements now there's no sense in applying until you do. That way you don't get disqualified and waste any time.
How can we get access to our interview score? If one person was the only one interviewing, is there a minimum score the is required to earn to acquire an offer?
You can ask HR about your score but they may not share. Even if there is only one person getting interviewed there isn't a score that guarantees an offer. It's up to the hiring manager to select or not.

A hiring manager can ask to cancel an announcement at any time. If there's an error it can be canceled also. I'd look for it to be reposted if it was canceled.

You're welcome! They will probably be a mix. The 9 being developmental should have questions that match the grade being filled. If there is a question that you don't have experience with it's OK to talk about what you would do. Even if the question doesn't ask you to tell a story, I'd recommend you always spin it to be able to tell a specific story.

A lot of people are getting turned down jobs because of their “grading system “. There was a time where you applied for announcement and once the announcement closed hr would give an offer to the best candidate. Why did that change?
I don't know when that was but it hasn't been done that way in the 9 years I've been in federal HR. Instead everyone that meets the minimum qualifications is sent to the hiring manager for additional screening to determine who would be the best candidate.
@@federalhiringadvice1385 Your right about that because I’ve been with the government for over 15 yrs. This happen back in 2009. If a person been working with the government for a number of years and have listed there qualifications especially if the candidate is applying for announcement that they have done before and listed on there resume. For example, an announcement post (Supervisor Document Imaging) a candidate apply for the announcement, candidate has worked in Document Imaging before and listed the qualifications on resume, why can’t that candidate be given the offer without the formalities. There’s a lot of candidates that are qualified but over being overlooked cause of the grading system.

You can also use delegated examining - under delegated examining, applicants are not required to meet time in grade, only experience. That said, the rules exist to ensure merit systems principles are followed and to reduce the number of prohibited personnel practices. Most agencies also have agreements with their local labor union and have to take those things into account when the post job opportunity announcements. Yeah, it is complicated stuff. And it would be infinitely easier if you could just pick someone. But there are always folks out there who do stuff they are not supposed to and then rules have to be established.

You will receive notification of your referral status if you were found eligible and your application is forwarded to the selecting official. If you were found ineligible this is your final notice regarding this vacancy announcement for this position, series/grade and location.

I didn't know how intense the interview process was and I think thats I blew it. I'm waiting to hear back from the other 2 but I don't think I got it :( any suggestions

That sounds like a good sign. You can only skip time in grade if you have a hiring eligibility that allows for it.

What about if you applied and were referred as a former federal employee qualified for reinstatement and are a 5pt veteran?
It's still just one of many certs. The only advantage would be if you meet multiple eligibilities then you would be on multiple certificates.

It just depends. If you have the experience to qualify now then definitely apply. If you need the degree to qualify then probably wait.

After my interview they asked me to send them references. Does this mean I'm probably going to get hired?
It's a good sign! Usually a hiring manager only checks references on the top candidate or candidates.

Looks like HR was just late sending out the notice of results. It's normally before the notice of referral or at the same time.
