    Luis Royo has been my favorite Artist since I was about 13/14. I’m almost in my 40’s now. His art still mesmerizes me & transports me to beautiful, gothic places.

    I have got the Luis Royo artbook somewhere. Loved it as teenager, as I loved dark Medieval fantasy art and stories😊

    I love the wings, the metallic really works ❤ Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman is a fun and easy to read introduction to norse myth. The eddas are sometimes a little dry and hard to read, I don't find a really good german translation.

    i really like your use of metallic paints here. Normally the only time i ever use them is for some flat, illustrative designs on a few places in a piece, but you've blended them really well into layers and textures that make the wings still stand out beautifully as a central focus, but don't look flat at all. Definitely going to try some of this layering on top myself!

    What an interesting look into your process, including multiple layers of masking fluid. It's also very cool how you incorporate the thematic and symbolic influences you pick up along the way. You and your paintbrush are the gold standard when it comes to painting badass hot chicks on a mission.

    I really love your style!

    Where is the hyper-realistic element you are mentioning in a headline?

    • @LiobaBrueckner

      The wings and the shadows of the painting - but do you find there is not enough of techniques shown in the video?

    • @parleymanderson7527

      @@LiobaBruecknerI agree with the original commenter, your drawing is beautiful but even the wings and the shadow has a lot of illustrative elements, which is not a bad thing, it is just not hyper-realistic. When people think of hyper-realistic, they think of picture that you would mistake for a really detailed image, the ones that show every bumps on the face. Your drawing looks great but I exaggerate a lot of things so it looks semi-realistic.

    So beautiful! I would disagree though that because Christianity rose, art began to not look so great. I don't think that's quite right. It took quite a while for Christianity to catch on, and it didn't fully until Constantine. I think it was more a situation that all the well-trained Roman masters disappeared and there wasn't really anyone there to pick up the art torch. People were more agrarian, pagan, and weren't trained artists unless they were in the clergy-- who like you mentioned were interested in graphical/teaching art rather beauty art in the Dark Ages. And I'm guessing that either they didn't have access to Roman art as a reference, or were dissuaded from copying the Romans (I'm not sure what the clergy's feelings on the Romans was but it probably wasn't good at all, and I'm also guessing that the clergy artists weren't allowed to take pride in their art-- just use their talents for the church's purposes.) Kind of like if your job is to make packaging art all day long, and your boss doesn't want you to be making gorgeous fully rendered paintings. Or at least not until the pre-Renaissance period.

    • @LiobaBrueckner

      Absolutely, it took some time! I didn't mean that it happened immediately so I agree with you, the focus was not on creating art for beauty but rather for religious purposes and people lost the skills over time!

    Not you comparing two different art types as if one is superior 💀 get over yourself. They’re two distinct types of art and serve two different purposes for two very different cultures. At your grown age.

    13:47 maybe you shouldn’t put it this way… I can see if it’s just a light-hearted joke but it’s not a good look and can sound pretty disrespectful to Islam. And in 2024? 😐
