Sir, your English is far beyond my own understanding of your language; do not let people criticise that in such a way as it is unfounded. It was truly an amazing drawing and your narration worked wonders
Nobody criticized him. Quite frankly, I personally appreciate him for not attempting to hide or obscure his ethnicity. I hate foreigners who try to trick viewers.
OMG.. your ability to draw parallel lines and curved parallel lines perfectly aligned and spaced is unreal... and what sets you apart from non-artists trying this... WOW!!
This has to be the most informative 12.5 minutes I have ever watched. From your Lumus method pencil drawing to the finished product, it is packed with no-nonsense information that can be easily followed. Excellent tutorial Tri Le, many thanks.
this is a great breakdown of each step, looking at a finished drawing it's hard to understand where and why each line goes but this was very well explained! I have naturally shaky hands so this might be impossible drawing style to me, but I want to try it at least once...
Wow this is amazing. I'm fascinated with old cross hatching artwork and stuff like that. The amount of patience and control it requires. I think it's beautiful. Thumbs up.
Absolutely AMAZING! First of all, I just want to say that your English is PERFECTLY understandable... I'm so happy you decided to speak and we actually get to hear you talk about the techniques instead of having subtitles or something. Secondly, the art and the way you explained everything just made sense! I am from America and this technique looks like the print of our money here. It's just beautiful to see someone use pen and pencils to create art pieces that look as if it came from an old book or something. You just earned yourself a new sub from me my friend! Looking forward to more videos and please keep up with the speaking because I enjoyed every second of the video and you have a great, relaxing and soothing voice. Great job!
This looks AMAZING! I love how you broke it down to be simple to understand, and added examples to demonstrate the concepts. This is one of the best videos I have found to teach this.
This tutorial demo was so mesmerizing! I couldn’t tear my eyes away watching this piece come together all while learning new art techniques! Thank you for your time and dedication to sharing your knowledge!
That is one of the most beautiful tutorials I have ever seen of drawing. You are a tremendously gifted artist and I hope you will publish a drawing book with all your knowledge and experience,
That's beyond impressive ! I'm a beginner at hatching and this video is sooo useful. Thank you so much. You have really achieved volumes with that technique, I love it !
In the years that I’ve studied art, I had never come across a lesson in crosshatching as detailed as this. It’s usually shown as small patches. But with the complicated forms of a portrait, it is wonderful. Thank you. I’ve gotta try this. WOW
Beautiful work, excellent description and understand! Getting back into art again and appreciate your education and masterful art! Please keep up the great work
Thank you for sharing your process and techniques to us for nothing. I learned more in 12 minutes than an entire semester in Art. Your precision is beautiful.
As a native speaker, I found your English to be easy to follow. I applaud both your bravery to do this, and your skill that you share with us. Thank you!
Thank you for this. I feel like you shared so much technique so smoothly. I feel like i learned even more than i realized. Great video and amazing skill
This is officially the first time I've ever seen cross-hatching like this and thought '"oh, I get it, I could try this", and that's amazing. Thank you!!!
Thank you for this explanation, I have wanted to see someone who did this technique well and in all its development for a long time, because I wanted to give some of my drawings that style from another century, your work is excellent, keep it up. Regards.
Precision is on point. The lines following the contours perfectly really do bring the solid feel of the shape to life. A superb tutorial and excellent work. 👏🏼
Thank you for this. I'm still new to portrait drawing but atleast now i know what i need to practice before i can achieve your prestige level. Beautiful art, flawless technique btw. Thanks again 👍
Wonderful explanation! Your exceptional artistic skills balance out any difficulties you have with English words - your movements on the portrait fill in any doubts that might be created by your narration. I found no difficulty following your words as your pen movements instantly made clear the meaning of your spoken instruction. I do hope that you will consider creating another instruction document on this subject, just as you did with your method of illustrating the way to lay out spirals and curves of acanthus in engraving style artwork. This is a wonderfully valuable instruction piece. I look forward to more as soon as you are able. Think you!
Your approach to rendering here reminds me of the portraiture used on currency. Very interesting. No problem understanding your words and the art speaks for itself in any case. Thank you for sharing it!
Tri Le , beautiful, and a wonderful video and with art like yours there is no need to have perfect English but even your English must have been painstakingly perfected long hours. You truly are an inspiration and an Artist of our time.
Thank you so much! Now saw the making of this technique for the very first time. I have seen so many results of this in very old books and on money bills but never seen the process up to now and that is really great. Thank you so much - very difficult to make.
Gotta commend the patience of the artist. I mean if I had that much patience, then I could've been a 'good' artist instead of someone who just wings it. Straights and curves are doable, but hatching S curves ain't easy. I've tried it and I cannot emphasize how little patience I have to put that into practice when their are easier ways to shade. Still, the result of that patience is undoubtedly a chef's kiss.
Love your style, I am currently creating a linocut in a similar style. You were my inspiration. I got your both books on pen and ink drawind, am I am studying them right now. Great work btw!
Thực sự quá là ấn tượng! Tình cờ nhìn thấy vid của chú và cháu đã bị hút hồn vào những tác phẩm của chú. Cảm ơn chú đã cho ra những vid chất lượng như vậy ạ.
Beautiful video and beautiful drawing. Also your very clear about demonstrating the process. Will really love to see more tutorials about pen and ink and hatching techniques on this Chanel
By every strand of hair, he means every hair strand that is visible on the surface and can fit within the radius of the drawing tool and be spaced. Which he and you will perceives as being each and every hair strand, but won't be even all the surface ones because it is simplified to the tool and optics of the tools you are working with
The instruction was brilliantly masterful, your English is better than a lot of native speakers, and the piece is beautiful! Even the visual aids are beautiful. So down another rabbit hole I go...🤣❤
Great portrait and tips!! I no longer use the construction methods as Loomis is now imprinted in my brain but I drew hundreds in February so I don’t even think about the proportions or angle when I’m portraying a reference!
Sir I speak English and your English in your own words are yours they add flavor life it's you don't ever think of what others will say about they way your English is it's fantastic and sounds so beautiful everyone there own person be proud of your self it's when you don't say nothing and know how to say it but are afraid you are not your bold confident and that super cool anyway this is my first seeing your mesmerizing vid and this is so freaking cool I'm hooked even if I don't know how to do it yet I'll just keep you on my list thanks sir from Texas stay cool
Excellent tutorial about the contour-cross hatching technique! The drawing and shading of this portrait is absolutely neat. Your background music choice is nice and relaxing. I wish I could speak English as you do. Thanks for posting!
talent, precise hand, accurate description of the method. unfortunately I have not had such good teachers, luckily I can try after watching the content on YT. Thanks
Perfect work, and I take my hat off to you, because not many artist have this level of intelligence and understanding of the form. I would only like to say one think: it would be more organic to use a fude pen for varied thickness lines, instead of trying to simulate the effect by adding to thickness with the highlighters.
Absolutely brilliant. I FINALLY understand what cross-contour hatching is supposed to be and can start trying to apply it. Love your work!

Wow. This was incredible. The level of detail and patience is just insane. Amazing.
This is the best tutorial on crosshatching with engraving style hands down. I love the step by step process you have.
OMG.. your ability to draw parallel lines and curved parallel lines perfectly aligned and spaced is unreal... and what sets you apart from non-artists trying this... WOW!!
The benchmark for how a tutorial should look like! 🎉❤
This class changes everything, now I understand everything, the key has turned! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I always admired Franklin Booth's drawing but never knew how to achieve the same effect. Thank you!
Excellent narration. Please add Amazon affiliate links to the book and the supplies you use such as paper, pens, pencils, etc.

Really beautiful process. Than you for breaking it all down for us
very nice! It makes one appreciate the work of actual engravers even more, who did this on much smaller scales… with outputs of just a few cm2 a day.
You create a beautiful example, while giving such understandable explanations. Thank you so much for this!
Love this video, great in every way. Please make more!
너무너무 아름답다... 해칭에는 왜인지 선 하나하나가 면을 만들고 그림을 완성하는 것이 주는 감동이 있는 것 같음.
the coolest way to draw in my opinion
WOW! That is one steady hand! Bery impressed by your work. Comments in english are absolutely fine too.
