What's always amazing is seeing Mike's sweat equity going into his projects, he isn't just writing the checks ,he's working his butt off, not to mention all the work done planning it all out.

To me at least, what’s standing out in this project, is the attention to detail and the consideration of the interrelationships of the various elements, for longevity, ease of maintenance and repair.
What I appreciate most about your video’s, is your obvious multi dimensional thinking / looking through the layers of the onion.
I've heard that you learn so much building a house that the first thing you want to do when your finish is start over. You can tell Mike has done stuff like this more than a few times.

Mike also puts the same quality when he builds an aircraft.

If you are going through the trouble of building it. Might as well over build it.
And built it right from the beginning so the future maintenance and chance of problems down the road is minimized.
Anybody else just feel like such a lazy failure watching Mikes videos? Like I’m 35, homes paid for and my family wants for nothing and still, I watch him and think “man I’m such a piece of shit I’ve gotta step it up” 😂

But no I don't feel like I was lazy or anything, however if you include heavy d/sparks and I raise you one Cleetus McFarland then yes I would say I just don't know where all my time has gone or where I failed to utilize my life in more of a productive and positive way to accomplish more.

Mike, would you ever walk through some of the other details of the house? Air sealing in the main house, insulation details, HVAC/ERV/HRV/Ducting details, electrical in the house, High or low voltage, window details. I'm a geek for custom home build details. Love your plumbing/hot water walk through. It's more commercial than residential and I think that should be the way to go. Too many residential builds are done so cheaply.

I also want to know what systems are automated and what is manually controlled.

I've been in the swimming pool business in Southern California for almost 20 years, and this is by far the wildest build I've ever seen. Amazing!

This channel is a master class in extreme over-engineering! My grandfather always said "anything worth doing is worth over-doing". I am a bit shocked that the sidewalks and steps were not built to be exactly 5 paver across to eliminate the cuts... I'm sure there was a reason that we don't know about, but having one cut paver would drive me insane.
I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I would have expected him to center the middle paver and make the layout symmetrical, but then I noticed that he made the 2 sets of stairs mirrored and my ocd calmed down a tick. 😂
Content is great as usual. Whoever is editing these videos deserves serious credit as well. They appear to have Mike's same attention to detail. Keep up the great work.

It's quite a fail if you start taking in the energy wastage.
He could've spent money on integrating solar water heaters+ geothermal+ heat pump also photovoltaic for electricity if space permits, air trap barrier to stop water body heat loss, rain water harvesting etc etc

Wow, just wow! Engineering masterpiece informed by extensive practical experience with flawless execution. All this can be summed up with one word: PASSION! Thank you for sharing your passion with us, be it planes or dream house.
I like the idea of the hot water taps outside. In my neck of the woods we have heated driveways when it snows. I always told my dad that if he repaved his driveway he should bury some Pex tubing in it so he has the option to heat it in the future. I plan to do the same when I build my house. I'm cheap, so I probably wouldn't even have a boiler hooked up to it at first, but in my dad's case, he lives at a lower elevation in Denver, and it only snows like 5 days a year. A warm water tap would work just fine. No need to shovel, just wait for a sunny day above freezing and wash all the snow away.
You and your family certainly are hard workers. That pool piping system is way beyond my technical abilities to understand what, why or how it works. I guess these videos are a few months in arrears now. That house is just mind boggling. The amount of back ups you’ve built into this house is what should be expected from someone who is into aviation and there’s no room for error. I can’t wait for the time when this house is totally completed and hopefully we get a look n’ see the whole home. The build is way above and beyond anything I’ve ever seen. Back to work.👍👍🇨🇦

It is disappointing to me that a YT channel like yours does not have the level of subscribers you deserve - I know this is not why you do it and you are too humble to consider that point but man, when channels that showcase someone playing video games have 100M subs, it kinda makes me question our development as a species!! :)

Hey Mike. I know you're currently busy with your house project but I also know you have that itch about pushing the boundaries of aviation ... ;)
Idea: Why don't you take on a canard airplane as your next project and use Scrappy's unique flap/slat technology on the canard wing together with regular flaps on the main wings to make the worlds first slow-landing, high performance canard airplane? This should allow for some record breaking stuff...
I would love to see that become a reality and if somebody can pull it off, it's you. Bonus side-effect: aviation as a whole progresses and maybe the design manifests itself in the experimental community?

I love how you think things through before jumping into any project! Maintaining things is always necessary, so making that maintenance accessible is important. Elimination of potential issues ahead of time, saves a lot of headache down the road!
My 93 Polaris snowmobile is just one example.
Had to replace the recoil rope & the bottom bolt on the housing that had to be removed to access it, was inaccessible behind the frame. 😑😑😑😖
Also, most abandoned aquariums I’ve seen, have large amounts of calcium built up on the glass & simply got to be too much for most to keep on top of, getting out of hand, then that investment, simply abandoned. 😔
Patey's airplane content likely resulted in some companies building better planes, the above is what the housing market should be doing (minus the mega pool and the building out to accommodate the increased volume.) But the systems themselves could be a fraction of the size for a similar sized house.....minus the pool. I'm confident that the house is also hardened such that a mob outside couldn't get in (humans, zombies, rodents of unusual size, etc.) I don't generally watch house building/modifying content, but Patey's house contains cutting edge custom improvements that are interesting to learn about. Like I said, all houses should be built like this, which would also drive the price down on these systems over time.

Once the build is done we want a break down and cost sheet and an explanation how one man can manage to contain all this knowledge and time to actually build this! As a construction engineer and aviation enthousisat i admire your work. I do hope (and actually am convinced) you somehow produce the energy to sustain this dreamhouse in a sustainable manner (wind or solar, somewhere on your property, hangar roof or ...) because your consumption must be like that of a small african town.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars. The 3” copper pipe has to be $100+ a linear foot. Best tugs must be doing very well. Mike is crazy. You always want a friend like Mike to visit and enjoy his engineering. There is no doubt he will have first responders training there benefitting everyone near him.
