Imagine how hard of a worker you'd have to be that Patey recognizes you for it. That's an achievement!
Of course Mike’s house has back up systems for back up systems ✔️
It's not turtles all the way down.....it's back ups all the way down!
I have a 30kW Kohler generator for backup at my house. All it takes is money...
@@buckhorncortezI love redundant systems but I need more money lol 😅. edit- better get back to work! 💪
Redundancy is king…… if you have one? You have none if you have two you have one if you have three you have two…..
Pilots, always thinking safety. I guess falling out of the sky makes you that think that way.
As a multi-year viewer, I’m still not sure how Mike knows how to do EVERYTHING!!! It would be interesting to have Mike do a video on his upbringing, education, and all the jobs/businesses he has had which has lead to his vast knowledge of EVERYTHING…
I wonder the same. I imagine he has a great network of individuals he can share his expertise with and consult together.
He is not afraid to try and fail.
He kind of has. Look up some of his talks. He discusses a lot of his childhood and upbringing. He and his brother started building decks. Then people wanted jacuzzis on them. Then they became the largest seller of jacuzzis. So they became a dealer. They ultimately had something like 200 employees……..while they were still in high school! No lie!
@@davidparker8752gotta drop some links man! I have see a couple of these but not the one you’re talking about
He simply is a multi-talent!
He knows everything by nature 😅
Mike Patey would be the BEST neighbor ever!
He would have a backup for you
I`m in Canada and I feel he is my neighbor!
The fact you put extra plugs outside, speaks volumes about what kind of a good man you are.
I was going to say the exact same thing!!!! Talk about taking care of your neighbors!!!!! I wish I could live next to him!!!!
Was thinking the exact same thing and first comment I saw. Great human.
Is there 'An American of The Year' award in the USA? If so you 100% deserve it for your contributions not only to community, technology and aviation but because you are a stand up citizen that should be honored.
America definitely needs more people like Mike!
Auxiliary power supply for your neighbour’s!!
You are a special person.
When shit hits the fan you can either have your neighbours as allies or enemies. Allies is better :)
@@Zepherian when shit hits the fan it’s usually every man for himself. Mikes anticipating the fan full of shit and has clean towels ready for people.
That’s next level special.
This man designs houses with aviation level redundancy.. epic !!!
a monumental waste of money
Is this house on the parade of homes list yet? I can appreciate your dedication and talent Mike you dont skip a beat. I cant wait to see you and your family and friends enjoying the finished product that you have created. Cheers lets not forget a job well done by those at the bottom all the way up that worked on this incredible home. Watch this amazing journy from Colorado
Mike, I was a lifeguard back in the day and ended up getting my pool operator course and did a ton of maintenance on city pools here! We had salt systems and old school gas chlorine as well! Haha. You’re doing a better job on your home system than the engineering I saw in most pool systems. Nice work! G
You have to write an operation manual for your house.
Especially when the day comes that someone else is living there.
Like he hasn’t 😂
The house requires a 2 year training program that starts with PT @0500 every day!
A crew of 6 fully trained and equipped Patey NinjaTechs™ will be on-site at all times.
My house would fit in the mechanical rooms for his pool, and I have a manual.
I was qualified on a nuclear submarine and I’m impressed with your design, engineering and safety…You need to design a piping tab for your system and have operating procedure manuals in case you aren’t home…Your kids
could get qualified to operate everything and your helper could be the backup to your back up 👍🏻🤩😃
operator
Yes this. Mike is a legend few professionals in pool business will reverse engineer this to properly maintain or repair.
This house is really coming together, I'm so appreciative to Mr. Mike Patey and Mark Patey and family for being such a shining example of what we should be striving for in America!
God bless thanks for sharing !
Also really looking forward to following the new Patey aviation center project. Go Spanish Fork!
As a pilot and scuba instructor, I have always deeply appreciated redundant systems whenever possible. It is like toilet paper, it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. That is quite a home, Mike!
You don’t need toilet paper?! U a corn cob fan?
Mike - hope you are writing a detailed POH - Pool Operators Handbook - for anyone that needs to go near that thing if you aren’t there 😂
Backup on top of backup to make sure you’re backed up. That must be a pilot thing. Always thinking about others too. Helping the neighbours when the river water was rising in the spring with letting them use some of your heavy equipment to stop flooding. Helping with the power outage too. You’re a good man Mike Patey. 👍👍🇨🇦
Mike,
I hope you are creating a huge amount of documentation to support this incredibly complex system you have designed. I can't even imagine a repair person having to come in and try to figure out the system.❤❤
Do you really think he would trust anyone to even touch it I think not.
Mike, your ability to think of literally everything is your greatest superpower. Love the videos, was really inspired by your Draco vlogs and ended up studying engineering, i'll be an mechanical engineer majoring in design and graduating soon! Back to work!
With a backup power system, it's essential to make it turn on all exterior lights, so that neighbours can see you have backup power when they don't.
Every time I watch one of your videos I am speechless on the intricacy and redundancy of every little system in the house. For example, the valves at each sink and faucet that allows for continues flow through for instantaneous heat at each faucet. How do you not get overwhelmed by points of failure for such a intricate system??
Not surprised that you give your helper a shout out for his hard working effort. Hope you will keep his around for assisting you in the airplane shop!!!! jm2c
Im alwaysed amazed at the thougt and engineering that you put in to all your projects and your new home 🏘️ is no exception. Now get back to work😅.....
You made a comment about the plumbing system at the earlier part of the video and about understanding it. Mike, I don't understand 1/100th of what you've done here, but I stand 100% in awe of it Your brain is a work of art, no doubt. You set a very high bar for the rest of us.
Mike - as a retired executive project manager for very large-scale industrial projects, I am extremely impressed with your engineering and your construction of your home. This is as good as anything I have seen installed in a refinery or chemical plant. Two questions I have are: 1) Are you creating a systems operation book with all schematics, owner manuals, operating manuals, etc. for the house? With the complexity of systems you have installed, this is equal to a small-scale industrial installation, which would have books of this type. 2) Did you ever consider using a PLC or some other form of unified computer control system to run all the systems and components you have installed? I am thinking something similar to a large yacht management system.
Lastly, the fact you thought of your neighbors with your back-up generator system speaks volumes to how good a man you are.
These are my favorite videos to watch on TH-cam right now… amazing engineering on a home
Mike is an amazing person, but his planes are my favorite.
As a retired municipal code official (plan review and inspections - both commercial and residential), I would love to hear about the "behind the scene" permit, review and inspection process. This would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as a code official!
No code enforcement official knows what the hell the system does or how it works or if it is installed correctly or not!!
I'm pretty sure the building department just required an engineer to sign off on everything about this job.
@@steinwaymodelb mike is the engineer :'D
Do Inspectors who get a Patey job think "Mike's got his sh*t wired, I'll see some cool stuff today, maybe even learn something, this'll be a good one!" Or "Everything will be weird, custom, like nothing I've ever seen before, and it'll take forever to figure it out before I can sign it off." I wonder the same about the FAA inspectors who have to sign off on builds like Scrappy, but city officials are likely in the same boat here too!
I am sure EVERYONE in the building department knows all about this project and who Mike is, and how capable. If it were me, I would be comfortable signing off from my desk, but, I'd want to have the opportunity to walk the job, so I would go out and just BS with Mike. If Mike is in charge, it's bound to far exceed code requirements, and you know it was done right!
My only concern is the down stairway opposite the propane tanks. Propane being heavier than air, looks like a collection spot that might allow propane to seep into the lower level of the house.
The whole project is amazing.
Excellent point! Thanks for sharing
How do you keep the "grass" clean after it absorbs copious amounts of product? Could get fairly smelly back there.
My concern would be as the dogs get older they won't be able to make the steps into their "living area".
@@Asta-wl8jzthat's not the kind of thing you worry about when you have a pet.. I've had dogs all my life and that's never been a problem but he has money I'm sure he'll change or fix whatever needs fixing if that happened
@@ah244895my biggest thought too tried that method before and it didn't take long until he tore it out because it stunk😂...
0:42 I've been dying to use that hand gesture in a situation where it's actually relevant for the longest time. Usually I just use it to signal my wife that it's time to wrap up the shopping so I can go home.
order some concrete to dump in yourbackyard and use that gesture to tell the driver to keep spinning the mud out of the truck. works great
I would love to see a video where you introduce all the craftsmen that are helping you build this project!
I think that would be a nice thing to do.
This pool is amazing. I can’t believe the amount of engineering that went into it. I hope you make the time to enjoy it!
Pretty nifty! Ten years ago I installed a whole house 10kw Generac generator with automatic transfer switch. Runs off propane. It is the best thing I ever did for security and comfort. I live in Northern Michigan in the woods. When the main power goes out, my house will lose power for only ten seconds, then the Generac kicks in. It's worth the investment. Especially for those times the power is out for days due to bad weather. Thank You Mike for sharing videos of your amazing home!
You have definitely done a great job. I love the pump room. I’ve worked on a lot of commercial pools pump rooms and yours is top notch. The only thing that stands out is your liquid chems, I would stack them, they always end up leaking some, you don’t want chlorine and acid mix which I’m sure you already know. Still love your system.
Can't tell you how much I've enjoyed you home build. Truly magnificent. Looking forward to seeing what's going on in the hangar. Don't think I'm the only one not missing airplanes.😊
Mike is there anything you can't do?? I am mechanically inclined but your projects are light years ahead of my talents! Love the videos 📹
I love the house having multiple layers of redundancy like critical flight systems on aircraft.
I love your youtube channel, I get construction ( all facets), engineering, and planes, it's like a one stop.
I buried a thousand gallon tank in Florida with a 24kw backup generator. Easily should last at least two weeks if needed. Also after taking care of many pools, salt water has been the best by far!
As a young contractor getting into the game. Every time I watch these home update videos all I can think about is the knowledge I could get just by walking a day in Mike's shoes.
Your water treatment system is top notch Mike. Makes the water treatment facility at the factory where I work look like a hack job. Lol!
Got you beat on back up power. 148). 400 Watt panels 30) 100 amp hour Batteries 6) 8k inverters and a 50kva propane generator. All is off line and waiting for the grid to collapse.
Mike, I love your design and innovation! Soon we will get to see what Father Physics has to say!
Wow, wow, wow Mike. And to think I just started watching you for your airplane videos and I am learning a whole lot more. Keep up the good work and as you say, back to work.
The backup generator for the backup generator. :) :) :) That's soo Patey. Cool stuff!
I can't wait to see the solar system with the Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries and associated equipment he will have installed....
Next week: Cletus lands his Carbon Cub on floats in Mikes new pool.
Mike, if everyone were like you, we'd all be taking vacations to Mars or Jupiter's orbit by now. You are so motivated and smart!
I wouldn't even know where to start designing a pool system like this. The amount of thought, designing and engineering in just the systems is insane never mind the rest of the pool and house.
Both brothers have been building pools for decades and it shows, they have engineered around all the problems with their previous pool builds. Very cool to see all that experience at work!
Mike there's no words to describe you LOL.Your top-notch in everything Great husband engineer mad scientist desiigner fabricator I can go on and on love what you do.BACK TO WORK
Mind-boggling creativity, engineering, and attention to every tiny detail. I watch these vids in amazement.
So many kudos for showing the people that help you with your extreme build. I think that shows that you care about people and all the workers that help you with the goals you want to achieve. These people are critical to your success.
With all of the crazy gadgets in that house, I’m half-expecting him to be installing a Cone of Silence™ real soon now.
Estimating the environmental impact and use of resources in Mike's house, I realize what Mike can do for the fellow aviator:
Make sure his spending of the earth's resources can be balanced by promoting and R&D of environmentally friendly aviation of the future.
my God, what fantastic foresight, engineering, execution and dissemination of not only knowledge but motivation. Godspeed sir.
If this house was ever sold. They would get a steal because this man knows what he wants an goes allllll out
So looking forward to the whole house/pool tour once this is finished!
Amazing attention to detail and quality! Mike Holmes has nothing on you!
I think a red fire hydrant in the middle of the yard would attract the dogs to not pee on your a/c units 😊
It always works in the cartoons 👍
I love how mikes always thinking about others! God bless you brother..
Been following this build since the first shovel of dirt moved. It is as impressive as that flap and slat system on the plane, with a couple of extra's tossed in..... just for the sake of living.. 😉.. Farmboy, turned tech, turned boat tech, turned race engineer, turned airplane nut with a good dose of historic race car restoration here..... Did quite a bit with propane and gaseous flamy stuff . I might miss something in the vid, but in case of a very unlikely leak, since Mike did it, where would the propane pool or dissipate to? I see a drainage line under the grass and the the doggy stairs and door, all lower than the propane. If it does pool and something lit it, the foundations will rattle a bit... Sure of it that you did something, but I can not see it. Vent fan of some sorts?
For my work I put in 150kw system with 450kw generator Ie motor was small but electric side was huge to start frequency(should UPS fail) converters and keep UPS happy. If you’re willing to take a chance it’s pretty cool how much you can push generators. As long as the exciter is a magnet
Such a great neighbor to have a way for neighbors to plug into your house. 👍
I'd love to see more detail about how you setup your solar to run off grid and the backup backup generator.
Mike, please make a video about the engineering behind the build!
2 is 1, and 1 is none, this is how everyone should be thinking about everything!
Nice was just in the mood for a video about the house build. Lets relax with something to drink and then... back to work!
Every video I just marvel at the capacity of this guy. Ofcourse he has backup also for his neighbors too. In next episode: "Guess what, city shutted down water but I had thought of that, so my pool water is drinkable and I put some extra water outlet for my neighbors so that they can drink too.” And of course there is exact same house underneath this house on hydraulic platform so that if this house gets ever demolished, Mike can just rise up the reserve house that is ready to live. How much we have not seen? dude propably has also aircraft hangar in the house etc... ”Sometimes it is nice to fly directly to house.” I would not bat an eyelid.
Impressive. My bet is there are no industrial/commercial pools with this level of redundancy let alone residential. I am rebuilding my pool, and just put in a Generac system tied to natural gas. No worries about power now, but I figure it is the one thing out of my control that messes up my day. Why not. I have batteries on the critical resource, gigabit fiber connection, and 26kw to everything else.
Mike is my favorite Enginerd. Back up to a back up? Off the hook!
Love watching your cost-no-object projects, 4:31 Mike!
Not only does his house have a back up systems for the back up systems, his neighbors have a back up system that has a back up system which also has a back up system for the back up system.
Good morning from Minnesota!!! Mike Patey, Jack of all trades, master of a few!!!😂
and ultra secure doors on pump rooms, imagine a copper thief getting in there!
I think this guy knows what he’s doing
It would be a dream to own a home like this. Something that will still be state of the art 100 years from now. One day, when I retire, I hope to be able to afford the copper used to plumb the pool haha. All jokes aside, I can't express how impressive the details you have thought out and implemented so far in this project, BRAVO Mike!
That plumbing is so beautiful your an artist in every way congrats boss
Steve, absolutely excellent. I felt like I was walking with you. Thank you sir. Don (half Scot)
this house is a technological wonder!!
It is amazing how Mike can surprise us every time: A two zone pool? Genius!
There is so much information and ideas in all of these videos. Just amazing.
I love it.
These house videos are my favorite!
Belt & suspenders engineering is just a starting point.
I hope he has drains in the floor in that pump room. Imagine all that pool water dumping into the house.
I love this guy, If I had tons of money I would be doing so much cool sht at my house.
That’s so cool. Can’t wait to get caught up on this series
You're an inspiration Mike. Thank you.
Great neighbour!
1000 years from now they will find this house intact and look at the construction and exclaim it was one of the few geniuses if this era.
Hi Mike, if you read this, I just wanted to warn you about salt-water pools. Our town built a new public pool 10 years ago or so, using salt water disinfection plus chlorine. Every year, they close for a month for ma,ntenance to repair tiles which have spalled off, due to salt crystals growing behind the tile. When they fall off they use epoxy to reinstall them instead of the cement mortar. I thought i should let you know about possible problems with salt and tiles. We have our own 54 year old concrete 40,000 gallon circular concrete pool here in British Columbia heated by a 70kW micro hydro. Best Regards, Len
Nice grounding on the new tanks!
Just for fun call the a few local pool service companies and have them come out to service your "residential" pool.
Dude, I mean Sir, you're nuts, and very inspiring.
Leave it to Mike to have a backup system for the backup system. Thanks for the video. 👍
Imagine if you could drain the pool like a resevior and generate hydro electric power to run the home or charge the batteries.
I can't wait to see the fabrication of the floating pool platform.
Love a well thought out neatly designed; functional mechanical room.
Ha! Funny that snowy view of the houses on your street…if someone comes to your neighborhood looking for the Patey house, just tell them that it will be obvious!!!
I bet he build this same house around the corner as a backup
🤣🤣🤣
When Mike's house finished, they probably start Mark's place :)
😂😢😂😢😂😂😂😂
Hey Mike. Always looking forward to a new video from you. Always impressed with all the thought you put into all the projects you work on.
That electrical system is a Preparers Dream.
Love your videos! In my past career i was fortunate to build and design some very unique custom swimming pools! Are you at all concerned having the acid and chlorine stacked on top of each other? I was always concerned about a spill where the two chemicals might mix and cause a chlorine gas situation in an enclosed space! Get back to work!
Amazing plumbing job, but I got lost on the second backup.😂😂😂
When are you inviting us all over for a Party,Mike? I’ll bring the Avocados. 😂
I guess Mike doesn’t like Avocado.
My countrymen were listening La culebra "the snake". Very appropiate for the roll of turf scene😂
Always amazed and impressed with whatever you engineer. Thank you for sharing the videos with us.
