So basically, the developers must have thought that you would catch the Strong Slammer first or second, then go for the Strong Greenie last. I guess it's just an oversight by the developers.
I AM a scientist, and while it's true you can melt anything if it's hot enough, if you melted a crystal you'd end up with it solidifying in a different form, one that wouldn't necessarily be the crystal you wanted. You CAN purify a crystalline structure by heating or reacting the powdered form so that the impurities settle out or precipitate out respectively, but you have to be really careful with the crystallization process or you can get any number of forms based on how quickly the material cooled, whether it was disturbed in the process, and whether you gave it a seed crystal to model its structure around. Some crystals can't even form without "impurities." Salt crystals, for one, are ionic crystals between (most commonly,) sodium and chloride ions. Ultimately, crystals are also some of the most stable structures in existence, so it might not even be possible to attain the heat necessary to melt a given crystal into a liquid. I mean, if they tied the ghosts to a string and dipped them in sugar water, that might work. Rock candy ghosts.

Ok I have not played this game in a long time and I looked up the boss for this area and you are right.... This boss is the worst boss in the game and it's annoying....
I gave up this game entirely when I reached the mission for that boss... I found it impossible to beat, and I've tried and failed more times than I can count.

You can try to comb one as much as you want, but there will always be at least one hair perpendicular to the surface. There's a glitch you can show off Chugga, but admittedly it's minor and fairly useless. WHENEVER you are about to receive a call from E. Gadd, have Luigi call out with the D-Pad. The glitch has no impact on the game at all... just for the conversation it's done in. It does, on the other hand, lead to a slightly humorous visual effect when the "End of Mission" call ends, but what that is exactly I'll let you figure out for yourself.
Search the gondola access to trigger a cinematic when the Strong Gobber, the Strong Greenie and the Strong Slammer appear with chains on their bodies to seal the door with paranormal chains. Luigi has to remove all the three paranormal chains blocking in front of the door from the gondola but he has to capture the Strong Gobber in the Basin, The Strong Greenie in the Smuggler’s Hideout and the Strong Slammer in the Chalet that each don their chains around their bodies.
I've watched this series twice and I still can't figure out how the cuts in audio were done. It's a power move though. It makes the experience that much better
