please can you address Canadian measurements, I do not understand mg/dl. how to convert it. newly diagnosed T2D, trying low carb and intermittent fasting . please help .
I recently did my A1C test. It was 6.3 I was elated. My Doctor however said I need to have some complex carbs. She said I should have some for breakfast. I don’t eat breakfast anymore. I didn’t tell her this. She asked what diet I’m on I said the one that my body needs.I told her my body doesn’t like carbs so I eat as little as possible. It’s allergic to sugar so I’ve totally stopped eating any sugar. I felt like she was scolding me instead of recognizing my hard work and dedication to better health.I was on a crap load of meds. I’m on 4 metformin 2 in the morning 2 at night. I stopped my cholesterol meds. My cholesterol result was fantastic, I also stopped my high blood pressure meds because I was constantly dizzy , when I took my blood pressure it was low. So after monitoring for awhile I stopped taking it and my dizziness went away. My body is the most important source of information, I’ll always listen to it. I started my lifestyle change in early December, after being sick every day from a new diabetes medication. I’m 54 years old and have had diabetes for 14 years now. I wish my Doctor at the time of diagnosis told me I’ve the power to reverse my condition instead of saying this is a progressive disease.
Thank you Helen De Silva for sharing your story. That is great. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results and that you are smarter than your doctor and taking charge of your health. Keep it up! 😄
I don't believe this came across my feed. Dr Ekberg is my old chiropractor from the 2000s, who I had to let go of when his practice moved too far out of Atlanta for me to get to. He was the greatest of all time. So glad I connected with him once again. Bearing down on a million subscribers! OMG. You deserve it Dr. Sten. You saved me from so much pain.
Hi Jerry. Great to hear from you. We're still off exit 17 in Cumming if you need us. In the mean time you can watch videos so that you hopefully won't need us.😄
2.14 million now. That is a LOT of lives being impacted! It is impressive how many people are looking for knowledge to help their health improve and know that most medical standards of care are outdated and ineffective.
I am a Spanish speaker and I understand the doctor perfectly. TODAY TH-cam RECOMMEND ME YOUR CHANNEL AND I'M GETTING ADDICTED TO YOUR VIDEOS. I ALREADY SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL AND I HAVE SHARED IT WITH MY FAMILY MEMBERS. Thank you doctor for speaking slowly and for sharing your knowledge. I send you a hug from the Dominican Republic.
My favorite TH-cam doctor is marching his way to a million subscribers. It couldn't happen to a better person. Way to go doctor Ekberg. I have always said your home IR video is the best video on the subject anywhere that I've ever seen by anyone
Thank you Over Comer. I really appreciate your feedback and your support. The purpose of my channel is to explain things better than other channels and help people understand the principles. I spend so much time on it because when we get "the why" and the mechanism we become empowered for life . Comments like yours makes it all worthwhile. 😄
If you want to decrease insulin resistance you need to do something about the *cause* of insulin resistance-saturated fats from eating meat, eggs, and dairy products. Ekberg's recommendation that you eat more meat, eggs, and dairy (a low carbohydrate diet) is the exact opposite of what you should do to decrease insulin resistance. A chiropractic doctorate degree does not in any way inform Ekberg about nutritional science which is obvious from his remarks in this ill-informed video.
@@jimscanoe Vegan is not the answer for me! Low carb and IF is all I can deal with! I'll just have to suffer the consequences later instead of every day!
I reversed my diabetes years ago. As of yesterday, my A1C is 5.6....I do IF and LCHF diet. I’ve read up on the Dawn phenomenon, and my body definitely goes through this. I check my glucose twice a day. My morning fasting numbers have always been higher than normal, but then balances back out during the day. It use to be discouraging, but now that I know this happens and along with your explaination, I’m good. 😊 I did a happy dance with my A1C of 5.6
I have the same as you. Even the high glucose levels in the morning. Up to 9.3 in the morning, but it would come down to a normal 5.3 later. Then I fixed it. I fasted for 5 days. Nothing but water and salt. On day three the dawn phenomenon started coming down. 7.5. Day 4 it was down to 6.2. Day 5 it was 5.2. I believe that there is a store of glucose somewhere in your body that causes dawn phenomenon, and a long fast depletes it. I eat a carnivore diet now, OMAD, because when I eat any carbohydrate, even the tiny amounts in cruciferous vegetables, my morning fasting glucose level starts creeping up again. So, deplete that store, and keep it empty.
What you described is something that has plagued me since i first started Keto. It made no sense to me why my highest blood sugar readings were after an 18 hour fast, while my lowest readings were after a decent meal. All i knew was that my weight, A1c and lipid panels were consistently improving by leaps and bounds. Im so happy to finally understand why! Thank you so much!!
My doctor was so wrong. I'm reversing my blood sugar levels and am almost back within normal range after switching to a very low carb diet and IF. If I had not discovered Dr Ekberg and this wonderful channel, I would have continued on a destructive path healthwise. As a licensed practical nurse, I should have known better and listen to the distress signals my body was sending me. So Dr Ekberg, I can't thank you enough for all the valuable information you give out so generously. You are making a difference in people's lives and we all appreciate your investment in our health.
Thank you Claire Hachey. Congratulations on your results and your dedication. We need more informed nurses like you. I really appreciate your feedback. 😄
Absolutely agree with you, when I finally realized my endocrinologist was part of the problem Dr Ekberg became part of the solution my A1C was 13.4 it's now a 7.0. My weight was 264 it's now 215 and still a lifetime work in progress
Ive been searching for this answer for weeks, thank you! Im at above 8 after 16 hours fast and it drops after my omad. Been on extremely low carb for 6 months and omad a month and a halve. Lost 10 kg. The high fasting level worried me. Now i need to watch this several times to get my head around this explanation. Not all that easy to understand, but i do trust dr ekberg. Keep going in the right direction!
Doctors are wrong about everything. I found that if I do exactly the opposite of what they suggest I actually do better. Thank you for your videos. You don’t even know what you’ve done for me! There is no way to express my gratitude.
Sandra Westley most doctors were in medical school when in the 1970 it was decided that a healthy diet pyramid was a big Chuck of carbs at the bottom with fats at the top, so you eat the least if these, it is only recently that it has been recognised that we only started getting fat from 1970 when the diet advice was changed, in the UK hospitals are rolling out a similar to Keto in clinics to get diabetes in reverse, and I read in the paper it has recently been acknowledged by the American Dietitian Society that it is the best for reversing diabetes.
I was between 6.2 to 6.4 for HbA1C, 3 months back. I have followed your diet for more than 3 weeks now and yesterday my number is 5.4. I am confident that I can bring it down to 5. Thank you for all the suggestions. I am skipping breakfast now. Having lunch between 12 PM to 2 PM and extending as much as possible. Having dinner between 7 to 7:30 PM and taking Apple Cider Vinegar twice a day. Reduced 2 Kgs and more importantly my belly went down from 94 to 89 cms. I am sure I am becoming healthy again. Being an Indian, fasting for 36 hours every 15 days is part of our culture and probably that is the reason why I haven't become diabetic until now. Thanks to our predecessors who introduced this system in our culture. Thank you again for your efforts to share the knowledge.
It was Doctor Oseiwe who cured me from Asthma, you can also get in touch with him on TH-cam channel Doctor Oseiwe, if you need help and be cured completely🇬🇧🇬🇧"
Just so you know, I love you. I feel so much healthier now that I have found you. You are the only doctor I trust on the internet. I have insulin resistance but I also have hypothyroidism which makes it worse. Thank you.
I am a type 2 diabetic who has been on keto and intermittent fasting for awhile. I am not overweight. My blood sugars were still too high at 130 to 150 after 12 hours. I've found that resistance training with heavy weights for just ten minutes a day has brought my blood sugar down at least 25 points or probably a lot more. Resistance training is huge for me. Thanks for all of your wonderfully presented and clear to understand information, Dr. Eckberg!
@@bilaljan321 After 12 hours, I agree with Daniel that those are high numbers. Just because some people have much higher numbers doesn't mean those aren't damaging over time.
This is really good to hear. I recently wondered about that possibility because it's known that the ability of the body to process glucose deteriorates with age. I thought, what else deteriorates? Well, we lose muscle and of course, muscle is the first place the sugar is sent to for glycogen storage. So working on muscle could impact the system. I for one do NOT want to live low carb for years so I am going to work on getting some of my capacity back with weights so that I can sometimes have channa masala!
I had a hard life between habits and work load,,I’m 65 now and retired,,I was 150 my whole life when I stoped I hit 200,my doc was worried because my levels were very elevated so I told her to give me three months and I will come back for more bloodwork because I don’t want to be pre-diabetic and high blood pressure, so I discovered this channel and took the doctors advice and I am on one meal a day I go to the gym every day and work out with weights and high intensity aerobics, my sugar went from 170 down to 88, cholesterol went form 275 to 120, I’ve lost 20 pounds Life is never felt better in my life so do you best to listen to this doctor and stick with it he is truly a gift
I had no pre diabetic, but after starting OMAD i found out my fasting tests are 102 rarely 107. While i was always under 100. So now after one month of OMAD i am confused and don't know what to do? I have lost some Kgs and life style is not bad at all. What do you suggest should i stop the diet or how much time do you think i should continue to get the desired changed?
My doctor 3 yrs ago. Called me and told me I'm diabetic type two. Take Metformin and Lysnopril to protect kidneys. I did neither. Started eating Whole 30. In 3 months my A1C 5.4, lost 25 lbs and cholesterol down 10 points. 3 yrs and still going strong.
Thank you! This is my life one year in w/ known outrageous diabetes. Doing low carb, OMAD. And I thought I was failing! Diabetic Dietician and GP preach the " normal " and are clueless! You really helped restore my hope today!
Thank you Dr. Ekberg. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 and my A1C was over 10. I have been fasting and keeping carbs below 50/day. I did a 72 hour fast and my BG levels started at 130-140 range for the first 60 hours but then dropped to 92 but then when I started eating again they went back up to 120-130 range even after 10 hours of no eating. I’m getting very frustrated to the point where I don’t even want to eat anything anymore. But this video was encouraging knowing that I’m not in the emergency range and if I stay the path then I’ll heal. Just wanted to say thanks. You’re making a difference!
Exact my case 2 hours after dinner blood sugar is 123 mg/dsl ..next morning fasting 160 mg /dsl despite not taking anything for 16 hours...No doctor could explain..Thanks to your explanation
Doctors are the last persons I'd ever believe anyway I mean they still believe Breakfast is important Low fats food Moderate carbs Loads of fruits and vegetables And eating frequently Enough said!
@@StephenieWith3Es absolutely in fact I've learned from Dr Eric Berg they only actually spend 20 hours on human nutrition to obtain their diploma No wonder their knowledge is insufficient
Thank you, thank you and thank you. IR for 12 years. I've been two meals a day with between 20 and 50 carbs per day for 15 months, logging my meals and BG testing. This video answered many questions I've been asking. 3 months ago I had the best A1c, triglycerides in years.

Whenn your fasting bloodsugars are high, it's because the liver is insulin resistant and does not stop dumping sugar in the bloodstream even when insulin levels are higher then normal. You can not say there is no emergency, because there is no difference in liver dumping glucose and glucose coming from your food. Your body still must deal with it. If the diet is really making your liver more insulin sensitive, fasting bloodsugars should improve too.
I did notice this as well. My level would be 130-140 on keto, and I would eat, very little to no carbs, and my level would go to 105-115. I've been on keto for about 8 months and I've seen my numbers go down. Exercise will keep them around 100. I'm 60 and about 8 months ago it was discovered my level was elevated, so I took control. It was a learning curve, but it makes perfect sense.
I'm angry that my first doctor never explained to me what was going on. After years of struggleing with the levels, I finally see a morning sugar level of 120-150. The secret is Eat Keto, Eat at noon and 4pm, dont eat too much at one time and 1hr of exercise. I still have to use insulin, but not much at all (3-5 units, 2x a day). Thank you Dr. Ekberg!!
I watch you every day and you have influenced me a lot. I'm glad I found you. I'm still trying to figure out what situation I'm in. When I check my blood sugar after many hours of fasting, even 24 hours or more, it comes out to be 104-1012! Never under 100! After very heavy meals, 2 hours after large meals it puts me around 120-124! A few weeks ago I measured my HbA1C in a microbiological laboratory and they found it at 5.4. At 66 years old, I still haven't figured out what phase I'm in. Thanks for your videos
It’s a good idea to have baseline labs so you can see if the numbers are moving into right direction…. It’s not a super highway speed…. that’s why it shows in A1C and fasting insulin levels. Wish you the best.
You’re the Best!! Ten days doing intermittent fasting and low carbs my blood sugar went down to 85 from 135! Lost 15 lbs and still going! I want to be healthy and if losing weight will do it I’m in!!

This is exactly what's happening to me! I'm diabetic and use an insulin pump and I started a low carb diet back in October 2021 and then started IF in April 2022 and since then I've lost 30 pounds but my sugars have stayed up when I fast because I started weening away from the insulin pump because it keeps weight on I noticed and retains IR. My longest fast was 2 days and 4 hours and my sugars stayed at around 135 would not not come down any lower. I started to use insulin pump to make adjustments and then take it off. I think I should just not use going forward and stick to keto. I became a diabetic at 37 and I'm 52 now. I've read a lot on how insulin keeps weight on.
Dr. Ekberg saved my life. I've learned from his videos about the important of intermittent fasting and followed all his advised and that changed my life dramatically. Thanks and more power! ❤️
I recently pushed my fasting to over 36-40 hours, and woke up with a 103 BS level. Wondering if anyone else I'd getting numbers like that too. I was type 2 last year, and 4 months after diagnosis I got my A1C from 8.2 to 5.4, then 5.3. Waiting on my next blood panel to show up. This doctor is helping saving lives! Thanks for the hard work.
My doc still acts like my A1C at 6.2 or 6.3 means death. And I stopped taking 2 meds that had my A1C at 7.1.... sssoooo nope, I'm good. Buuuut, I've been telling the docs for years that fasting don't help me, and they are looking at diabetes backward in some way, at least for me and I'm not over weight. I fast regularly simply cause I'm not hungry, or if I am, there is nothing I want to eat. I can't eat a lot at one time cause of a haital hernia and feel better when i munch and then thought i just need to eat more 😢 and one doctor told me maybe slow digestion 😢 I don't know what to think anymore.... im eating a lil better and trying that and see what happens. 😊 thank you for this video cause I knew it's not just me....
I'm on day 22 of a 40 day fast with nothing but protein shakes (maybe 600 kCal a day). Yes, some people say that's not fasting, but believe me it feels that way and my body reacts that way. Also, protein shakes do make a big difference in sustaining exercise and motivation for me, at least. I'm on track to lose about 20kg during the 40 days and I don't expect to have a lot of trouble with the diabetes again, any time soon.
@@Andreas-gh6isyour best bet is fast for 2 days , eat for 1 - no carbs . You can still train everyday if you wish . Once your happy ,switch back to alternate day fasting .
I saw exactly this paradoxical situation recently. My 17 hour fasting BG was a scary 110+ but as soon as I ate something it immediately dropped to 80+. I read something that explained it as the liver producing ‘breakfast’ but the body, having become fat-adapted, simply didn’t use it, so it stayed in the blood stream. As it was not the emergency Dr Ekberg talks about, my body did not bother creating insulin to lower it. Today my fasting BG was 78, so I guess I am one more step along on this fascinating Keto journey.
Congrats to you! I am still struggling with the high fasting glucose levels, but it is encouraging to hear your testimony to that it will eventually improve.
This was very timely for me. I am three weeks into keto and my ketones have stayed over 1.1 but my blood sugar has been hovering around 104-113. I have been concerned.
My husband is brand new diagnosis of diabetic. Labs from normal visit were called to us and were 370, doc called out insulin (0, null no education) stopped at pharmacy and picked up insulin and monitor, next day started with reading monitor instructions, researching how to administer insulin, what the numbers mean. Checked his blood, 572! I freaked, ran and got insulin, no syringes. I had no way to administer insulin! Jumped in car (we live 1 hr from doctor, in the country) went to grocery store where script was filled, pharm doesn’t open till 9am ( it was 7:30), ran to Walmart, same thing, ran to urgent care, they handed me 3 syringes ( thankfully). I got home and and administered 20 units insulin, hoping I did it correctly. I did for the most part. It’s been a rough weekend. Absolutely no education was provided, nurse that called us with Dr said “ there will be paperwork in the machine - glucose monitor and when you get insulin!). Thank you for the video, I will be rewatching several times as I am overwhelmed!
Thank you for your videos. My doctor has just told me I'm Diabetic. I was pre diabetic for about 2 years and tried very hard to eat better, but only to be told I'm diabetic now. I'm devastated, HELP ME!. My doctor has prescribed me all these medications I dont want to take them. Bless you🙏
Thank you so much! I've been doing keto and IF for 2 months with a 34 lb weight loss. I have PCOS, and instead of insulin resistance, i like to call it Hyperinsulinemia, because it's easier to really grasp the concept that way. I've just started taking my blood glucose levels, and i am also a nurse, btw. But, i was shocked to see that with fasting and clean keto, my glucose has been running 120-130 around 5 am. But i also have crazy sleep schedules, and high cortisol, which I'm also working on. But thank you for this great info! It just wasn't making sense to me. I was over thinking it, and couldn't figure out where this sugar was coming from if i was in ketosis and fasting!
I have been low carb with just a few fail days in 2 years. I just a blood test and ALL my sugar markers are correct.dr. said what did you do(i was prediabetic for the last 2 test) i said this is the simple answer but i stopped feeding my sugar,Sugar.
Doctor formally kicked me out from his practice. I asked if im curre tly swimming in insulin why take shots of insulin? Why not do the keto opposite? He grunted. Offered me a donut. Certified letter cancellation arrived shortly thereafter. Im very low carb now droppped about 80 pounds in 1 year A1c is 5.6 Have about 30 pounds to go to be 195 feel fabalus.
Total respect for your bravery in questioning your Dr. You made the correct choice in taking charge of your situation. I know this is 7 months later, so I hope you're doing even better now. Possibly going from fabulous to phenomenal.
I have been on a low carb diet for three weeks. I am blown away by the change in energy level! I have also been watching quite a few videos of yours during that time. One subject I would like you to talk about is low carb and exercise performance. I think my legs feel heavier during exercise than they were before and would like to know why that is and will this settle. I was a healthy, normal-weight and fit individual before starting out on this diet.
My kids stayed over with a friend with 2 diabetic kids and a diabetic husband. I’ll never forget showing up and seeing them eating chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast! I was like, heavens friend, thats a lot of carbs and she said their doctor says let them eat whatever they want and just adjust their insulin afterwards. My kids arent diabetic but they still talk about those yummy pancakes because they know that will NEVER be served in our house :)
Thank you Queen Dubya. That is so tragic. Such a complete lack of understanding on the part of their doctor. Those kids will be so messed up, but what do you do if you trust that kind of doctor and you don't have the urge to educate yourself. And how many (hundreds of) millions are like that? That's why I hope my channel will get into the hundreds of millions of subscribers so people can't miss it. 😕
Very sad. Particularly since that doctor is passing on his bad advice to many, many patients that will have lifelong consequences. We need to have a massive realignment in the teaching of medical doctors about nutrition and the causes of insulin resistance, and it would be great if that was Dr. Eckberg 😀
Never serve pancakes? Thats a set up for failure. Once a month, portion the syrup or thinned jam and enjoy with fatty meat like sausage and a side of yogurt.
Very helpful information. I've been on low carb diet for five months, yet my fasting glucose was never great, around 140. Just had my A1c measured at 5.3 and was taken of all diabetes meds. As usual, Dr. Ekberg was right!
*FINALLY SOMEONE ADDRESSED THIS* fasting was causing my blood sugar to go to 194 (after 6+ hours of fasting) I researched this and it’s normal, only eating makes it lower
Thank you Dr Ekberg!! I started keto and 17 hr IF 4 months ago, with slow progress. Then I measured my morning glucose and was a bit worried as it was over 100 - I had never had a fasting glucose that high. I think you have explained what is going on. I am/was probably quite insulin resistant although my BMI was still “normal” and no diabetes. I will stick with the program. All of your information is fascinating and wonderfully presented. Thank you again.
Just want to thank you from India. Here some doctor's started advising fasting. I am getting prediabetic from diabetic since last 3 month. Started eating OMAD now to get in non diabetes.
I live in Australia and I am 63. I was diagnosed with a blood sugar of 12.9mmol/L (225mg/dl) 30 yrs ago. After decades of Type 2 diabetes and doing what I thought was right in eating, and then stressing about not getting my sugars lower, I realised that I needed to learn more about what carbs actually are, and teaching myself to stress-less. Being of European descendance, pasta, rice and potatoes was the norm. This year I started the Keto diet and have replaced processed flour and other foods with almond flour, increased my healthy fats and oils, walnut, almond, coconut and macadamia and loving my butter again. I went onto TH-cam and learnt how to make healthy Keto sweets and meals. Bought Monk Fruit (always had my Stevia) and so many other things, so now I can enjoy my sweet life in more than one way! I have lost 10+ kilos (22 pounds) in just a few months and my energy levels are going great. No more burnouts. Listening to you Doc is another step in the right direction. Thank you 👏👏👏🥰😍❤️❤️
I've been doing fasting for months now ..I've had severe bad pain for years ..no back pain when fasting ..had a few weeks of bad eating Back pain came back..Fasting is the way
My fasting glucose has always been in the mid 80s at my yearly. This year it was 125. I was quite shocked. But I will say this year I did the test at home, 5 minutes after waking at 530am. Interesting video.
How is your a1c doing? I started checking my blood glucose and was having the same results. Had my a1c done and there was a noticeable improvement after 1 month;
Hello doctor. I am a type two diabetic and diagnosed with angina. I had triple bypass surgery about a year ago. I am on 30 units of insulin +25 mg of alogliptin daily. I am also on blood thinners blood pressure pills including a Staten med and other related medication’s for cardiac disease. My average blood sugars in the morning after fasting all night have been in the 140 to 160 range. For the past week, I have gone on a very low carb diet, eliminating all breads, cereals sugars starches especially pasta. I have fasted in the morning illuminating breakfast twice in this week and have noticed my blood sugars in the morning are about 100 to 110. Two hours after eating my sugar readings are about 120 or less. This is a big difference. also note that I have eliminated my insulin of 30 units per day and get these low readings without it. With the cardiac disease, I am very concerned about eating high fat foods, such as bacon and other high saturated fat foods with the cardiac issues. what can you tell me with all the information I have provided you with. Is it possible we can communicate somehow other than texting? Thank you.
Great explanation Dr. Sten. Certainly fills in a few gaps in my knowledge and I'm glad that when I was diagnosed with T2D I didn't accept my Dr's advice to go on insulin to control BG levels (it didn't stop him and many others, over the 25 years since diagnosis, from trying). Lots of other things came into play with all of this but your videos have given me hope that I can get on top of this sugar addiction. I'm now carnivore and (mostly) eat less than 10gms of carbs a day.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I really need this. My sugar level is high and i am trying low carb now and lost some weight. Stress eating and depression is driving my insulin crazy this pandemic. I hope i can still reverse to normal sugar level.
It was Doctor Oseiwe who cured me from Asthma, you can also get in touch with him on TH-cam channel Doctor Oseiwe, if you need help and be cured completely🇬🇧🇬🇧
Dr. Ekberg, thank you so much for this video. I was wondering the same thing before watching your informative video. I'm 47 and get lots of exercise weekly doing Jiu Jitsu. I did not know my "healthy" diet of rice, bread and meat was poisoning me. My glucose level was 159 and my A1C 7.4 two weeks ago. I immediately cut out all cabs and sugars and today, it's around 130 when I wake up and goes down to 115ish a couple hours after meals. It's around 85 after I train which is nice. It was concerning why it was 130 fasting but now you put me at ease. You are a life saver.
I watch my mother struggle with type 2 diabetes. She's on all sorts of medications that make her dizzy, weak, and I'm just watching her decline. I'm also pretty far along in the metabolic syndrome myself because I was addicted to sugar and processed foods. The main difference is I decided to do something to stop it. I began fasting, I began a low carb diet. I'm doing yoga every day. My mother however refuses to listen to me when I tell her to go on a low carb diet, instead trusting her crappy doctor and having an "I know better than you" attitude all the time. I previously had the same doctor and when I followed his advice when I started having blood sugar problems about 5 years ago MY PROBLEMS GOT STEADILY WORSE! He literally told me to eat 6+ times a day and always have carbs with every meal. His advice accelerated my metabolic syndrome! I'm just glad I'm finally working to start reversing it but it's difficult when everyone I live with wants to remain in their crappy old eating habits.
Hi Dr. Ekberg 👋🐈 You are a very wise man concerning one ought not be overly concerned about blood sugar. I do not bother with blood sugar as I am only into a year of keto (lost 112# since 4/2023). I focus on low carb, OMAD, and ketosis. Fasting, for me, is terrible to work-thru. I can do 12-16 hr max. Again, not a concern as I am focused on the keto lifestyle, on a budget. Oh, I have an incomplete severed spinal cord at level C4-C5 so exercise is almost nill as walking with back brace and a rollator 3x a week is... challenging. Keto is NOT easy by any stretch of the imagination! Once I achieve weight goal and am comfortable with a Keto lifestyle THEN I will focus more on blood sugar. Thank you sincerely for all of the valuable info that you put out for us!! 🤗🐈
I get more information watching this than I do my doctors. Wish I could actually have a one on one talk with you as I am a full blown diabetic on insulin struggling to get a grip of my high A1cs seemingly with no help or directions. I am stuck between eating enough, maintaining energy and weight, yet not eating enough to supply me with the energy needed and trying to keep my sugar levels or spikes down from eating. I seem to have an average of only 4-5 good hours a day then fizzle into no energy, fatigue and the end of my day. My daily intake of total carbs is less than 80. I could go less but my energy levels drop even more.
I keep coming back to this video. It’s the only one I’ve found that explains why I’ve continued to have high fasting glucose which drops after eating. It’s reduced my worrying about the situation. Thank you
Hi. Have you managed to solve this. I am not diabetic. I am now 2 months on intermittent fasting.I fast 18-20 hours daily along with exercise just (for my general health) my fasting blood sugar was always in a normal range (86 - 95) I measured every single day since the last two months BUT just suddenly the last few days I noticed my fasting blood sugar is going up between 100- 122 and 2 hours after food it goes down between 92- 97 I am so confused why this is happening after two months of intermittent fasting and good result with my body shape and fasting blood sugar levels were good…etc I have lost 11kg.
No, I have not “solved this”. I’ve seen my fasted glucose levels (higher than 130) drop to under 80 after eating. Going forward, I will ensure my fasting insulin and c-peptide levels are checked in my annual physicals. As long as these indicators are stable or improve, I’m not going to worry. They seemed okay last year and my HbA1c was 5.3. Search on Adaptive Glucose Sparing to learn more. For example, “why the keto diet leads to higher fasting glucose is still being debated. The strongest theory suggests that, because your muscles have adapted to primarily using fat for fuel, they no longer need to absorb glucose. The unabsorbed sugars deplete over the course of the day, and your numbers eventually normalize. More data is needed, however, to corroborate these claims.” I have noticed my glucose levels drop and ketones increase with exercise and extended fasting windows. But I have not fasted beyond OMAD. I plan to focus more on my sleep and eating patterns. I’m a night owl and typically eat in the evening hours. Changing these habits will be difficult for me. If I ever see a change in this seemingly abnormal blood sugar pattern, I’ll try to report back here.

How could you downvote such an informative and useful video. Thanks Doc! This describes exactly my current situation with glucose and insulin resistance my family doctor seems to not grasp.
I have cut out sugar and reduced carbs to lower my fasting glucose levels. On a 12 hr fast overnight I go from 96 to 117. It is always different even my left hand usually is not the same as my right on glucose levels. My concern is my Ketones in my urine used to be negative, now it is a Trace I do not want my Ketones to go any higher and if I fast I am afraid the Ketones will elevate. My weight has reduced from 170 lbs to 161 in a month. Thank you. John in Ohio

Dr. Ekberg, Thanks for this wonderful explanation. I have watched this video many times as it helped me resolve a key question. I have been doing low-carb and intermittent fasting for over a year but my fasting glucose is still in the 120-130 range and my postprandial glucose drops to 100-110. And now I know what is going on! I just need to keep on working on various aspects till I resolve my IR and get over my diabetes. Much appreciate. Your explanations are a treasure!
Every single video by Dr. E., including the ones I've already watched, is always an empowering learning experience. He is so skilled in making complex concepts understandable for those of us with little or NO medical training. If only all doctors were like him. Not by accident he has over 4 million subscribers. He should be given a Nobel Prize for empowering millions across the globe. Honestly if I lived in Georgia, where I did live for only 6 months in the 1980's, I would want him to be my doc!!!
I passed through this exacty situation, and i remember to be very frustrated, altough i always had a great benefit from the low carb and IF. I'm glad now, that I undestand... tks!

I'm LCHF 2 years and 5 days, OMAD, and I think this paradoxical blood glucose situation is me. When I use a CGM, my blood glucose is nearly flatlining around 100 all the time. I don't know what my insulin levels are, cuz I can't talk Mayo into testing it, but I'd think it is in safe range, though was probably very high back when I was eating low-fat, which is high-carb and I was doubtless insulin resistant and hyperinsulinemic. My cardiologist (I went LCHF post-heart attack) always notes that my fasting glucose is a bit high, like there's an issue! I'd show this - Dr. Ekberg's analysis - to him, but he doesn't support my being LCHF. He thinks it is 'the exact wrong thing' for me to be doing. He and I just disagree. Thanks for the vid, Dr. Ekberg.
@@nickbardan3867 Hey Nick. According to what I read, 14 is not high. The range for fasting insulin is sub-25, so your fasting insulin is in range. Or am I mistaken?

Keep it up!

@@jlbee1132 hi, but if fasting Glucose is 110, it is bad for the A1c test?

Sandra Westley most doctors were in medical school when in the 1970 it was decided that a healthy diet pyramid was a big Chuck of carbs at the bottom with fats at the top, so you eat the least if these, it is only recently that it has been recognised that we only started getting fat from 1970 when the diet advice was changed, in the UK hospitals are rolling out a similar to Keto in clinics to get diabetes in reverse, and I read in the paper it has recently been acknowledged by the American Dietitian Society that it is the best for reversing diabetes.

130 to 150 is not high sugar

Yes this is the key!! Workout, minimize the carbs, and fast.

It also contributes to fatty liver.

Also, protein shakes do make a big difference in sustaining exercise and motivation for me, at least. I'm on track to lose about 20kg during the 40 days and I don't expect to have a lot of trouble with the diabetes again, any time soon.

I don’t bother checking my BG when I wake up anymore. It is always above 100 but a few hours later it is in the 80s and 90s.
@@bi7235 Wow this is exactly what is happening to me. I was waiting for the doctor to explain but he didn't.

I’ve noticed as my weight decreases, my morning blood sugars improve.
This was very timely for me. I am three weeks into keto and my ketones have stayed over 1.1 but my blood sugar has been hovering around 104-113. I have been concerned.
Excellent Dr. Ekberg. My wife is experiencing this exact scenario. It has been frustrating her. Now it makes sense. Thank you sir!
Bless you🙏
exactly my experience, fasting for 3 days and BG stayed high the whole time.
😊
I have been low carb with just a few fail days in 2 years. I just a blood test and ALL my sugar markers are correct.dr. said what did you do(i was prediabetic for the last 2 test) i said this is the simple answer but i stopped feeding my sugar,Sugar.
Wow, what timing...just got done eating an hour ago and BG is 118... zero carbs. Doing carnivore.
Your videos have been a big part of me reversing my T2 and am off all med now. ☺️
Thank you Crypto Jim for sharing your story. That is great. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! 😄
Doctor formally kicked me out from his practice. I asked if im curre tly swimming in insulin why take shots of insulin? Why not do the keto opposite?
He grunted. Offered me a donut. Certified letter cancellation arrived shortly thereafter. Im very low carb now droppped about 80 pounds in 1 year A1c is 5.6
Have about 30 pounds to go to be 195 feel fabalus.
Awesome video Dr Berg!
Eckberg 😀
Very sad !!
Never serve pancakes? Thats a set up for failure. Once a month, portion the syrup or thinned jam and enjoy with fatty meat like sausage and a side of yogurt.

*FINALLY SOMEONE ADDRESSED THIS* fasting was causing my blood sugar to go to 194 (after 6+ hours of fasting) I researched this and it’s normal, only eating makes it lower
So you have BG 190 on fasting and after eating what happens?
@@nickbardan3867 I exercise very slowly for 30 minutes and then it’ll lower to like 140, then I’ll eat a snack and things will normalize.
190 fasting is not very normal. Something is impaired definitely. Maybe you are very insulin resistant.
Eating normalized it cuz your body dumped more insulin into your bloodstream
Thank you Dr Ekberg!! I started keto and 17 hr IF 4 months ago, with slow progress. Then I measured my morning glucose and was a bit worried as it was over 100 - I had never had a fasting glucose that high. I think you have explained what is going on. I am/was probably quite insulin resistant although my BMI was still “normal” and no diabetes. I will stick with the program. All of your information is fascinating and wonderfully presented. Thank you again.
what is your program bro .. plss share it to me. thank in advance.
Thank you 👏👏👏🥰😍❤️❤️
Good work! In time you will find that you don’t even need the keto treats anymore..at least that’s what happened to me.
I've been doing fasting for months now ..I've had severe bad pain for years ..no back pain when fasting ..had a few weeks of bad eating Back pain came back..Fasting is the way
Best explanation on insulin resistance ever. Awesome content as usual, Dr.Ekberg.
Thank you Tussin Buachaun. I really appreciate your feedback. 😄
My fasting glucose has always been in the mid 80s at my yearly. This year it was 125. I was quite shocked. But I will say this year I did the test at home, 5 minutes after waking at 530am. Interesting video.
I’m intermittent fasting and eating very low carb, but my blood glucose is always above 120, sometimes reaching 180.
How is your a1c doing? I started checking my blood glucose and was having the same results. Had my a1c done and there was a noticeable improvement after 1 month;
@@tessalynne6778 Thank you for the feedback. I’m having my next test done in about one month. Let’s see how it goes.
Life changing. Amazing that very few "experts" know anything about successful weight control.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I really need this. My sugar level is high and i am trying low carb now and lost some weight. Stress eating and depression is driving my insulin crazy this pandemic. I hope i can still reverse to normal sugar level.
A bit confusing but I’ll listen to it a couple more times to get more clear
Your analogies are perfect. So easy to understand and drive the point home. Thank you. I’m type 2 and working to heal without medication.
Thank you
I’ve stumbled across names for this phenomena: physiologic insulin resistance or “adaptive glucose sparing,”
Hi. Have you managed to solve this.
I am not diabetic. I am now 2 months on intermittent fasting.I fast 18-20 hours daily along with exercise just (for my general health) my fasting blood sugar was always in a normal range (86 - 95)
I measured every single day since the last two months BUT just suddenly the last few days I noticed my fasting blood sugar is going up between 100- 122
and 2 hours after food it goes down between 92- 97
I am so confused why this is happening after two months of intermittent fasting and good result with my body shape and fasting blood sugar levels were good…etc I have lost 11kg.
More data is needed, however, to corroborate these claims.”
I have noticed my glucose levels drop and ketones increase with exercise and extended fasting windows.
This has been driving me CRAZY!!! Thank you for this video. I was very worried.
Me too!!!!!

Wat a beautiful video, following low carb, high fat, medium protein diet, now started 2 meals a day
I'm LCHF 2 years and 5 days, OMAD, and I think this paradoxical blood glucose situation is me. Ekberg.
