In uk there is they are committed to following the NICE guidelines, then there are those who have "special interest" but they still cannot advise as this requires special individual attention on that patient and monitoring on that unconventional pathway. However, when you tell them that your doing this those with special interest want to hear about it, thereby indirect approval/ encouragement. Other advice is "no wrong diet, whatever works for you". So whilst some may know they are not allowed to explicitly encourage you as this does not fit with NICE guidelines.

I have reversed all that, my BP 110/60 blood sugar so controlled. I feel so good. For years, they were just increasing my medications, with minimal focus on what truly works. I can't tell you how many diabetics say I can't fast, it drops my glucose. Duh! I've asked have you called your doctor? No. Well call them, it's probably time to lower your medication. "Oh, no. My doctor wants me on this med." Ding Ding Ding..... you don't need it. I can fast 2 days now and it really helps. My levels stay normal. I've never pushed it past 2 days though. I got through Thanksgiving eating what I wanted, just smaller portions and no problems. Just fasted two days before. My glucose did go up a bit, around 120 at one point, but came slowly back down. I'm fasting since last night and back down between 80- 100, no meds.

@@dort5436 Apparently, it is for some people. I don't see it as a challenge though. When mine started dropping I called and told them I was dropping into the 60s and couldn't keep it higher. They started pulling me off meds and the next visit, I'd gone from 12.6 A1C to a 5.3 A1C.
The doctor was like, I'm glad you listened to the dietitian. Didn't have the heart to tell him I look at the pamphlets, all the other stuff they were going on about said F* that. Got up, threw it in her wastebasket and walked out. Haven't looked back. If I'd have followed their advice, I'd still be on meds. Of course they didn't bother to tell me I had diabetes for four years after it showed on the blood tests so, I didn't trust a word any of them said.

I have reversed(Controlled?) type 2 diabetes through intermittent fasting. When I did my blood work in April 2021, I was shocked to know that my FBS was 315 and HBA1C is 12.4. That was a wake up call. I wasn't extremely obese(178cm, 83-84 kg) but over weight. The doctors immediately put me into metformin. After watching Dr. Eric Berg and Jason Fung, I started 16 hours intermittent fasting(not really full Keto though) and started walking 8k-10k steps a day. I started noticing significant improvement in my sugar control(FBS dropped to 86-90 with medication). Then I went ahead and dropped the medication around mid June. When I checked my HBA1C in September, it has dropped to 5.7 and FBS/Random blood sugar are in healthy range. Below are the changes I have made to my life style
    - Started IF(16/80 by skipping breakfast(I was never a breakfast guy)
    - Completely stopped taking sugar. Replaced sugar with Stevia(for the tea or protein Shake)
    - We eat a lot of rice as part of our food habit. Reduced the portion of rice and added more protein/veggies
    - I am a software engineer with inactive life style. So started walking 8K-10K steps a day. Tried to include it as part of the lifestyle(walking while taking the calls etc. )
    - Included more protein in the form of whey supplement(Vegetarian for most part)
    - Reduced 8-10 Kg due to all the changes
    - Started a bit of resistance training
    - Right now my HBA1C is 5.7 and fasting blood sugar anywhere between 90 - 110
Hopefully its a permanent change, not a transient one. Writing this hoping it could motivate someone.

@@ponirulayi2197 don't worry. Your situation is not as bad as mine. I am not an expert but can suggest some based on my personal experience. Since you are on lighter side , try to get enough calories even though you are doing intermittent fasting. Reduce the portion of rice and replace it with protein/fat. As far as rice substitutes, try local millets. They are generally lower in glycemic index

I understand speaking with your doctor completely but I feel like my doctor set me up for a lifelong of diabetic complications. I was diagnosed with T2D back in October and my A1C was over 14 and my blood sugar was 353! I was a chronic smoker also which doesn’t help with sugar levels. I changed my diet, stopped smoking and never took the insulin or metformin prescribed to me but never told my doctor this. Then I came back for a check up and they were super happy when they seen my fasting sugar wasn’t high but low at 82. Then I told them I didn’t take the medication and you should’ve seen their faces! I changed my diet and do fast but Im also still finding the diet that works best for me and my sugar levels. I believe I’m in control of my diabetes now I’m trying to get completely rid of it. I’ve also been losing weight steadily too. Thanks to you and the other people spreading the TRUTH about this condition that’s reversible.

As you advised, I did talk to my endocrinologist before starting to fast. I am obese at 78 kgs for my height, Type 2 diabetic, Hypothyroidism thyroidism & PCOS and ofcourse the MDD( December 2021).He downright refused to help me with my medications saying that I shouldn't fast and had laid an obnoxious diet consisting of everything I don't want to eat. I started with 12 hr IF anyways.. Gradually to OMAD in 6 months. I was on OXRAMET 5/1000 twice a day and I myself shifted to once a day just 20 minutes before my OMAD.
    After 8 months,
I am down to 64 kgs, energy levels are better.
the blood sugar is better than it was before.
I moved left from obese to overweight.
I get my periods every month without any medications.
I still have a long way to go to achieve my normal BMI.
Only if the doctors here in India were more open to IF, it would help so many of us to get rid of medications but then that's the catch! Nobody would go to them 😁

One day I had had enough, simply disconnected from my insulin pump, completely changed my eating COMPLETELY, went low carb AND IF. The best thing by far to keep my fasting blood sugar at 99 or less is Intermittent fasting!! 16-18 hrs fasting, 8-6hr eating window. So no bfast for me, which I was doing anyway, but I eat lunch & dinner. It's been amazing to see my FBSL #'s stay in the 90's when I really stick to that 16/8 IF. Just my own experience but it's worked such a miracle for me...I'm 65 and on the 5th of December '21 I left a 2 year abusive relationship and was faced with a bit of forced poverty lol. For the period till now my diet consisted of two loaves of wholegrain bread, 2 cucumbers, 6 tomatoes, a lettuce and a small piece of cheese per month. Every month. Mind you I lost my appetite completely, only returning now. I found the doctor's video at the perfect moment. I fasted and followed OMAD. A sandwich for supper (and lots of tea & coffee with 1/2 sugar inbetween) and 5 or six green beans which I had growing at my gate as a treat during the day. Well I've lost 32 lbs till now and honestly? The amount of food we consume is really not necessary. Eat to live. I've tried to lose this weight and mass for 30yrs without success but it just melted away. The occasional hunger pangs? Ignore them, they don't last long. Gratefully I am now able to afford a slight improvement in my diet but still only cook twice a week, small meal and the rest my previous ingredients. I've read about pre diabetes, metabolic syndrome, visceral fat etc and was afraid, very afraid. So all in all I guess I'm grateful for the situation I found myself in for forcing me to change my eating habits..and for helping me to achieve this goal. I feel incredibly good but now need a whole new wardrobe lol from extra L to Medium in 4 1/2 months. You can do it!

There is a trick to eating pasta, potatoes and rice so not to raise blood sugar and I tried it and it works. You cook them then do NOT eat them until 24 hours have passed (refridgerate) then the starch in them CHANGES to an undigestable form. Then upon reheat they do not change back but remain undigestable and therefore have very little effect on blood sugar. Also, a tablespoon of vinegar before meals helps with blood sugar also :)
