    Thanks for watching everyone! I ordered a Wolverine one-way Vari-Grind for my bowl gouges. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets! The winner will be announced in the next few days.

    You are not only amazing but also the youngest woodworker on TH-cam. I am very impressed indeed. The work on Seth inspired jig is already under way in my workshop. Kudos to you.

    This is a very clever design. Putting the box that tightens the shaft behind the grinder gets it out of the way but is still accessible. Very nice presentation and a great video.

    I have the Wolverine sharpening system and you made a very usable version of it. I find that that taking a magic marker to "paint" the area to be sharpened, set it against the wheel and manually turn the wheel, you can tell where the grinding will be done. Then you can adjust the arm accordingly before turning it on. Another option may be to put a mark on the arm so you can set it to the same spot each time (though, this will eventually need to be changed as you sharpen the tool). Well done.

    Thanks Seth! I've now use the gouges sharpened on my new jig and the results are the best I've had on dried wood.

    Hey Seth. Thanks so much for presenting this vid. It has answered so many questions for me. I am 68 and just started turning Pens. One thing I am not good at is sharpening the various chisels. Your vid has shown me the perfect jig. Thanks again. Dave (Buddha) Winch, Beachmere, Queensland, Australia

    Great Vid Seth, if you color in the angle with a marker you can the hold the tool against the grinding wheel with it off and turn the wheel by hand when you see the marker being removed across the length of the grind you know your angle is dead on.

    One thing that I'm constantly being reminded of is the expansion and contraction of wood can turn on you. I was reminded of that the other day when I got out my table saw sled and quickly discovered that the quarter sawn white oak guides had bound up in the slots from humidity changes. Hmmm, Q S oak isn't supposed to do that.... And then there's the flip side where you've now got too much slop. I think I need to change to UHMW plastic for those guides.

    • @seths_custom_creations
      @seths_custom_creations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had this jig for about 3 years now. Never had that issue. The tolerance between the slide and the guide isn’t super tight

    • @vectionnoitcev2836
      @vectionnoitcev2836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seths_custom_creations I needed to use the same sled a couple days ago and now its so sloppy... I've got a spare set of miter sliders somewhere, I guess its time to swap them out if I can find them. The humidity around here can go from 20%, sometimes less, to 80% through out the year.

    Should there be an arm for both wheels? Or is it effective to sharpen on just one grit? If so, which grit do you recommend?

  • @hyime69
    @hyime69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to change your wheel to a fine grind also slowing the wheel down may help you by getting a Variable rheostat switch

    • @seths_custom_creations

      Generally I turn it on, let it get up to speed, and then use it while it’s winding down

    Hi Seth! Congrats on starting your adventure. Suggestions: you don’t need to yell, your mic is fine. Also, check out Matt Carriker’s Off the Ranch channel for ideas on music, editing. And he’s funny. He’s a vetinarian with a lot of projects (He has 2 other channels).And he owns Bunker Branding which makes merch for YT influencers. Good luck!
