I was going to figure out how to make one of these- I have an unfortunate allergy to spending money on crap I can easily make. You saved me the time and trouble of figuring it out, gave me the proper dimensions, and did it all with grace and humor! Thank you from my heart, Cap'n Eddie!

You sir are my hero! Every other video I’ve seen says we need to buy a £200 kit (including P&P to the U.K.). I’ve bought a lathe as an addition to my shop to enable me to do more within my usual woodworking, I have no intention of making it the primary purpose of my 'shop. Yours is the first sharpening video I’ve seen that’s truly inclusive.

I ran across this gentleman video a little while back, maybe about a month ago, and up until this point I was chasing perfection through methods that did not work for me. I learned from him that I don't need perfect I just need to get the project done. by applying what I learned I have now been able to sharpen most of my plane collection to almost razor sharp and consistent. also without jigs. Watch his videos you are going to learn something weather you know it or not. 👍👍. One more thing... share. ☺️

Just what I was looking for. I'm going to use metal pipe and an old metal compass and tack weld it. Same concept but using what I got in my shop lol. Thanks for the quick easy tutorial.

Hey Cap'n Eddie!! Just found you on TH-cam. Love your style! No wonder, yer from 'Nawlins. Me too, I grew up in Harahan! I'm living in Denver now but sure miss home sometime, especially when I hear your accent! I am just learning how to turn wood. I turned a Stanley #5 Plane knob out of Rosewood. My first project and it came out real nice. I refurbished the plane for my son, who was born in Opelousas close to Lafayette. Anyway, I like your channel! I'll come back some more. Thank you very much! Great videos!!! Dave Henderson

Hello fellow TH-cam hobby nuts, Apparently this lovable old man had a stroke sometime back with plans on returning to the workshop, I don't think he was able to do so, I dont have all that much time myself, god bless him.
I wanted to help people out if building this jig, I was a GM mechanic for 30 years and just made this style set up out of steel.
I started by making the the base sliding arm under the grinding wheel, and then made the jig shown here,
(the "base arm" spec's to hold this jig are)
He states 4 inches lower than the center of the wheel......OK
He states 7 inches out front from the face of the grinding wheel.....OK
He states 2 inches of chisel extending out of tool...............OK
You made the tool "exactly as described" in the online plan Print out....OK
After all that your finished grind angle is still off.......WHY
......................."How big is your grinding wheel?
I dont mean is it a 6" or 8" inch, I mean as any wheel is used it's exact size is always changing, you need a simple angle (protractor) tool,
    Make a grind,
Read it and adjust your jig, without reading your cut you're just guessing,
    Hope this helps someone.

not sure if I missed it or not, you said it was a 7 inch rod, i see threads on one end, what is the angle of the bend in the rod and did you say the tap was 1/4"-20
    thanks

    • @chartle1
      @chartle1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+gulfmedic1 If you go to the very end you can see the plans for it. I've been researching these and its not really the angle that's important but that the pivot point is 6" from the front of the tool and the 4 11/16" down. So when you add 2" coming out of the jig the point of the tool is now 8" from the pivot.
And yes he said 1/4"-20 but that's because he used a standard 1/4" bolt.
      Hope this helps.

I can't seem to find what I want in my town but I bought the last 32 tooth black and decker at a mom and pops that is awesome. Wen;t to Lowes and they didn't exist. It went from (I think) 20 some odd teeth then jumped to 60 something. Nothing in between. I guess I will start shopping online. I love the 32. Any suggestions for online?

hey eddie, i love your videos, thanks for what you do! i just built this jig, but my holes on the top and bottom of the pvc aren't perfectly in line with each other. 1. how important is it that this be perfect? 2. how important is it that the 4in by 7in (it says 6" in your diagram by the way, which is right?) be spot on? I'm new to turning and finding youtube to be such a great resource, thanks!
