I’ve had a MK VII Golf R manual as my daily for over 6 years. 2SS 1LE manual for the weekends. It’s been an awesome combo. Plan to keep them both as long as I can.
@@Hot-1LE Bought it CPO with 9200 miles. Have almost 98k now. Love it and would buy again without a doubt. You know about the good, so I’ll share what hasn’t been so good. Warranty work I’ve had includes a thermostat housing, oil cooler, H20 pump, re-flash for rear wiper, warped oil pan, AC evaporator/lines (just done), and 2 bad fuel injectors. Over 12k in work if you were to pay the dealer. All covered by my extended CPO warranty, which was well worth it and one of the reasons I have zero performance mods other than tires. Other things include carbon cleaning for the intake valves. Did that around 40k miles. Replacing headlights requires some extra work too. The 19-inch wheels aren’t my favorite either as pot holes can be rough even in comfort mode. But they look great and the lower profile tires make for fun times out on Santiago Canyon. So all that said, I’d absolutely buy it again. It’s fun, practical, nice to sit in, has AWD for bad weather, and still looks great. Interior has held up really well too. Good chance it gets replaced with another CPO Golf R. With an extended warranty, of course.
Very good review! Your right, the car is very slept on. Muscle car guys say they are toys because they dont have V8's but this car is a lot of performance for the money. loves how much fun you had while driving made me lol I'd take this over a wrx, or gr anything
I have a 2023 Civic Type R and I absolutely love it. It will be the 1st car i ever actually keep and not trade in. With that said I do like the Golf R too. Minus the touch controls the interior is pretty nice and having AWD is definitely a plus. If I ever bought this car though I would absolutely get it in blue and automatic. While obviously I love driving manual, this is a car I feel like is much better in auto as the 6spd in it isnt nearly as good as my honda or the tremec in the camaro.
The CTR is a great car! Ya know the blue on the golf is starting to pull me in and im not a blue car guy. The manual with some bushing upgrades and different shifter makes a world of difference. Its no tremec agreed lol but im not sure a tremec would fit the cars personality
Nice car and a nice departure from the Camaro content (which I enjoy). Here in the NY Metro burbs local dealers about a year or so ago were tacking on $10K over sticker stating they were rare. At that price they could keep them, but overall a solid German pocket rocket 👍🏽
Thanks for the good words! Yeah when these first came out a few dealers did 20k markup and I just laughed. Some are still trying, im finding some a little under msrp. Its all over the place lol
Great video bro! I think this is the perfect blend of daily and weekend. I love that it has cooled seats, a sunroof and drift mode. I would have/have had one if it weren’t for mark ups. I tried to get one before I got my current WRX as well
Thank you bro! Its wild i had a dealer tell me 20k markup once and i just laughed. I actually got one under msrp 500 and then 1600 but i slept on it. After reaching out to many dealers they def play hardball at msrp. Maybe thats all ill get now 🤣
"What happened to that guys car?" 🤣🤣🤣 Golfing in a Golf R is hilarious! LMAO @ that guy fixed his car with tape 😆 Great video brother your review was spot on, it's a much better car than people give it credit for.
Hey man thanks for checkin this out. Havent purchased (yet) one of these just a review car i had for a week. The gti is a very fun car. Havent chosen yet but i lean to R because i know ill wish i had got it lol. I like the awd too when pushing it. Hows the gti treated you any troubles?
@@Hot-1LE No troubles with my tune, I tend to do maintained well in advance. I do plugs every 20k km and oil between 3-6k km as opposed to the factory 14k lol
@@edenhunt748 thats tough tbh. We dont really get them in the US anymore. For me it would probably come down to price difference. The a45 is a awesome beast
@@Hot-1LE I mean the golf r is a lot cheaper but….. the A45 is an absolute beast. I was going to get a golf r went to look at one. I was driving home and an a45 comes up next to me and smokes me……… n I was like I need that. They’re such a nice carrrrrrrrrr. I think I may have to go with a45 👀👀👀👀
It's NOT a $50k car imo, and the controls are not good. OTOH, most cars are massively overpriced these days. I have a Camaro SS 1LE, ended up with a '25 Elantra N for a DD. It's a Korean Camaro, both EN and 6th Gen Camaro have heavy BMW influence. I'm currently selling my '16 M235xi and Camaro is basically a clone... albeit a superior/improved clone.
Approve of the Golf R!

Super underrated daily. Love the interior design as well
Yeah man the interior is really nice.

Thanks man! Yeah underrated in the community and last of the manuals for 24.
Loved my golf R! An intake makes the turbo and induction noises sound so good!
I watched all of yours and @racecarfriends golf r videos haha!

haha I still blame RCF XD Thank you brother!
My first car was a Jetta GLI with a 5spd, it was a fun car, even though it couldn’t get out of its own way.
Haha they have come a long way!
Very different car for this channel how do you feel about the Golf R?
VW makes porsche. This is a porsche performance in VW body
VW owns Ducati, so I like it already lol
Oh snap we outside!!!
Yessir lets goooo. Look what you did to me 😂

These are facts lol
Can you please say where did you get the shift knob?
It was a black forest industries short shifter. Not sure where the owner got it though

A Hyundai?!?!? 🤡🤣
Not for free . Not if they give me $50K to take it . I dont like the location of that motor mounted way up front for handling reasons.
It handles like an absolute beast
