- Once gunsmith Ian Lamont (Jack Black) finishes his custom mount design for the Jackal (Bruce Willis), it's time to test it out. After determining everything works properly, the Jackal brings out the Gatling gun, forcing Lamont to run for his life. Check out this high-action scene from this classic thriller!
Bruce Willis, Richard Gere and Sidney Poitier star in this international suspense thriller directed by Michael Caton-Jones. A ruthless assassin (Willis) has been hired to eliminate someone at the very top of the U.S. government. Constantly changing his identity and location, he is known only as the Jackal. Everything about this hit man, including his sinister timetable, is a secret. Aware of the Jackal's presence but uncertain of his purpose, the FBI's Deputy Director (Poitier) faces the biggest challenge of his career. In order to track down this coldblooded killer, he and a by-the-book Russian intelligence officer (Diane Venora) enlist the aid of an imprisoned Irish terrorist (Gere). These unlikely allies enter a global race against the clock to stop the mysterious mercenary before he can complete his deadly assignment.

Love when Bruce smiles after Black tries to extort 100k from him. Like he’s thinking; “Now I’m getting this for free.”
i think his smile means amusement:- "greed ain't so bad but you got too greedy mate, and that's about to get ya killed"
He was dead no matter what lol
I am not sure… Dead people leave bodies to be disposed of and relatives asking questions, in other words un needed attention as the Jackal himself mentioned
@@jsdzx yeah, the guy talks to much. He cant be trusted to keep his mouth shut.
@@456882 , even if he was silent that’s a major loose end. From the moment he took the job he was dead. The jackel probably could have hired a better pro but this was the kind of disposable target he needed.
I love the fact that despite the myriad of disguises that ‘The Jackal’ utilises he still always looks like Bruce Willis. It’s almost as hilarious as Richard Gere’s Irish accent.
Even more hilarious was the FBI HRT letting an escaped terrorist handle their gear. They let Gere's character tote off a multi-thousand dollar sniper rifle, with the President's wife down range.
Only Hollywood.
Nice HK sniper rifle, by the way.
I am surprised bruce was not in this movie to stop Bruce. I am pro-vajazzle as many people know. I don't know if Bruce knows that.
The point isn't to stop looking like yourself, that's impractical. The point is to change how you may be described by others.
Just to play devils advocate. Tis a silly movie.
@@eonsislept207 - He would be described by others as “he looks a lot like Bruce Willis”, but I do take your point.😸
Hmmm...did you expect that the disguises were going to somehow have a plastic surgery effect where it was going to re-arrange the contours of his face and body? or, did you expect that he had light bending technology to where it was going to hide him like "The Predator" and make him blend into his surroundings like camoflauge? Your comment is about as hilarious as Bruce Willis's disguises or Richard Gere's Irish accent.

Just like me. This scene stuck in my head when I was a kid
I like where Bruce is sitting next to an cannon with no hearing protection and his ears aren't bleeding
he is standing about 9 feet from the barrel.
He did lose hearing in one ear from die hard so he probably said fuck it
Nine feet? He's an arm's length away from the receiver at 4:09. Those look like 20mm vulcan rounds. He'd be deaf forever after that full auto burst. Our nation's fighter jets use these rounds in their gatling guns. The torque and recoil is enough to slow the plane down slightly with nearly 40,000 pounds of thrust from two afterburning jet engines. LOL. He's deaf and concussed at 4 feet without a helmet and ear pro. Hell, if that was a vulcun, the full auto burst of the weapon mounted loosely on the ground probably has enough recoil and energy to knock him off his chair and rattle the ground enough to shatter the windows of the van behind them.
Man, is a 90's action movie. Easy.

My favorite Jack Black scene...
His DIY remote-operated auto cannon is arguably quite sophisticated by today’s standards.
calibration for long shot need lots of input probably.
Not really, but not bad for "home made" back in 1997, look up C.R.O.W.S or th-cam.com/video/r5d7-SdpaB8/w-d-xo.html
The weapon and frame yes, but the electronics are quite feasible if you know where to look.
So this is old tech because nowdays you just need an Arduino microcontroller with wifi capability to control the servos and trigger of the weapon. On the Play Store there are some apps to create a user interface and connect to the Arduino. Then control the weapon system from your smartphone lol
I think you mean crude. 😂
But the sighting is off by at least 3 milimeters.
Glad to see Bruce didn't miss
Who doesn't want to test out a high-tech weapon on Jack Black? Truly, Bruce Willis gets to do things you and I can only dream of.

The minute the Jackal got that look on his face about the extra money requested by Jack Black’s character, you knew he decided to not let him live.
exactly , at 1.20
He was gonna take him out anyways. He asked him for the blueprints and mold to seal off the loose end. The guy who made it doesn’t know what he looks like so he didn’t matter. If anything he made it easier! 😂
I mean, he gave him the extra money. He just paid Jack Black’s character in bullets, delivered at high velocity

Not the way Disney made the empire in their version of star wars. "Oh let's wait for the rebels to delete some of our men first and than we can attack cause we're eeeeeevil."

Rule no. 1: Never obey the man who just shot your arm off.
Rule no 0: Always do your job PRESICELY
the guy was doomed anyway.)
Words to live by
It’s only a flesh wound.
It wasn't even because the Jackal was specifically aiming for his arm. That was due to miscalculation in Jack's own tripod calibration. Jackal is clearly aiming, tried to focusing at Jack's cigarette, and afterwards says "I told you, it's off the mark".
When Ian (played by Jack Black) suspected that the Jackal (played by Bruce Willis) wanted the heavy gun mount for criminal activity like shooting into an armored car or a bank vault, then he should've realized that the guy could be violent and dangerous. A bad idea to blackmail him for more money. Also a bad idea not to start carrying a gun.
Lamont was a Canadian. Ain't a lot of Canadians who tote firearms.
I think he was already doomed by that point. Jackal was gonna whack him off irregardless
@@jamallabarge2665 given his business...i would say he would be the exception lol
Yeah, very stupid to try to extort a guy who robs armored cars, and on top of that not even make the tool correctly.
also a bad idea to run into the target area. Could have run behind Jackals own car - he never would have shot it.
As a kid this was the first movie I wanted the bad guy to win. The Soundtrack was great.
That was the same tension brought out in the classic book: we all know Charles De Gaulle lived on, but the meticulous preparations and journey of the mysterious assassin makes you root for him! Even when the great French detective found out he was coming, it was still so nail-biting how close he came!
Yes. If you ever get to read the book or see the original film. Please do. They are both excellent. Like you say, it's an odd book because the Jackel is just so cool and clever you almost want him to win. 😆
What the original novel got me thinking about was the withdrawal of France from Algeria.
The use of torture by both sides.... was bad.
@@jamallabarge2665 Yes that’s a great point. Something that is not used in the remake. The original book and film used the real political problems at the time for the back story. Terrorism was rife as well (car bombs, political unrest, etc) which made the French president a very valid target at the time the book was written. I’m not sure how much is featured in the original film (been a while since I’ve seen it) but certainly in the book there is quite a lot of build up as to why they wanted to assassinate him. The other thing mentioned in the book is the Jackal’s fee, as it’s huge amount they have to rob banks to pay him. 😂
@@andrewharper4296 "The original book and film used the real political problems at the time for the back story. Terrorism was rife as well (car bombs, political unrest, etc) which made the French president a very valid target at the time the book was written. "
A good movie that gives a background for the original Jackal is the "Battle of Algiers". It can be seen for free here on TH-cam. French with English subtitles.
Filmed in Algeria by an Italian director with Italians and Algerians. Banned in France for a time.
The French military "lost" to the Germans in the 1940s. French military were taken to Germany to labor. French civilians were harassed by the Gestapo. The military felt that they had let the nation down.
The French military "lost" Vietnam in the 1940s to 1950s. Some French soldiers who returned home to France were considered "losers" and "failures".
The French Army were not going to lose a third time to Algerian revolutionaries. The French Foreign Legion was created to fight in Algeria in the 1800s. Algeria was their home. Without a home, what is your life?
When DeGaulle started to negotiate the end of French colonization, the OAS emerged. Part deserters, part rebel Army members, part European colonists of Algeria.
The OAS never hired any killers. They did the "work" on their own. In one famous attempt a rifle bullet missed DeGaulle's head by a few inches. The leader of the strike was executed.
The OAS spoiled any hope of Europeans to remain in Algeria to work alongside of the Arabs. The Algerian state wanted most Europeans gone.
The Harkis, or Algerian Arabs loyal to France, were massacred.
DeGaulle wanted to end the whole miserable enterprise. He understood that nobody wanted colonies in Africa.
After the Evian Conference, which negotiated the end to French domination of Algeria, he said, "France now lives without drama".
Well, no, not quite. France had problems with the Army into the 1960s. There was an amnesty for OAS in 1968.
The original "Jackal" had a lot of history in it, and was a fun read.
The one with Bruce Willis was both cool and silly.
1:14 The exact moment where he decides he's not just going to kill him, but make him suffer first.
Someone giving you that should be interpreted as "uh oh" better drop the price lol
He tried to blackmail the wrong guy. I'd bet the Jackal was going to kill him anyway to cover his tracks but was probably planning to make it quick with two shots to the back of the head. Once Lamont started asking for more money, Jackal was thinking, "Oh, so that's how it's gonna be? I'm gonna enjoy this."
In the book and the movies, the Jackal had a sense of honor, in that he always honored a deal, unless the other person failed to live up to their end or tried to pull something. In this case, Lamont would have been okay until he tried to blackmail the Jackal.
I don’t think so, remember he dealt fairly with the woman who made his fake passport on the boat who was pregnant? He even gave her some extra money because she was about to have a baby.
Well this guy didn't miss , and watching the target get dusted is nice . Great movie
Jack Black has been in so many movies including comedies and serious dramas yet he always plays the same exact character. Basically you feel like he’s playing himself and his real personality.

Best thing about this scene is that Jack Black actually obeys every command given by Bruce Willis. I mean, he could have escaped but he preferred to be a nice guy helping the assasin to calibrate his weapon with his own arm. Talk about giving the best service to your customer.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking the same thing. Jack Black ran for his f'ing life, soaking wet and covered in mud that is great customer service right there. Probably isn't worth having an inquisitive loudmouth as your supplier though, hence how it ends lol
Yeah I mean if he was gonna die anyway he could have tried to just try and jump the Jackal from behind .
He thought he has a chance if he will be a good boy. If he runs the opposite direction from the beginning or does something wrong he could get shot instantly by pistol or the machinegun.
I would have slit his troath if I stood behind the jackall.
Even if he had hit only the cigarette pack Jack still would have lost a couple of fingers if he where lucky.

@@breadtoasted2269 Jack was running away in complete fear and panic long before he reached the car. Not sure what clip you were watching if you didn’t notice that.
@Bread Toasted: When Bruce tests his first shot, he misses "by 3 mm". Under the same conditions, the error is increased/decreased the farther/closer the next target is. Uncompensated error can cause a complete miss of Jack, or hit him. Not good. The system wasn't automatically tracking the target. Bruce used a laptop to do remote control of the gun. The scope view is displayed on screen, and he follows his target by using the joystick. The knob on top is used to adjust the focus.
The thing that bugs me about this scene is that Jack Black's character built the mount only. He didn't know what sort or gun was going to be attached. The camera is attached directly to the gun which he didn't know about either as he was impressed by the big zoom lens. Yet, it's his fault the sight is out by 3mm????
He didn't kill him for that, it was because he tried to blackmail and could be a liability for Willis

You'd think the Jackal would know that you'd need to sight something like that in. Of course it's going to be off for the first shot.
I think he knew that, and it really didn't matter that much to him. If Jack Black's character just gave him everything as agreed, Willis' would have just taken everything and left. Throughout the movie, it seemed like he had established resources for doing business, paid as agreed, and probably would have made Black's character one of them. This was just all payback for trying to blackmail him and he wanted to make it painful in every way.

This is how I like to see Jack Black.
This was such a great movie.
YES, it is so underrated movie.
This is why, when someone orders tech like this, you deliver it no questions asked.
Hey Jack Black… “RUN, NOW”.
I like the way Jack Black puts his arm up to shield his head thinking it would stop a 30mm round.
people do that even when a bomb is about to hit.
It’s pure instinct.
That transition from Black to the pumpkin. Loved that foreshadow.
That was great
Richard Greres Irish accent in this is an international war crime.
Best thing to ever happen to Jack Black…
For some strange reason I love this scene way more now. I wonder why Jack
Great film such a shame Bruce didnt do anymore villain roles in movies afer this.
Planet Terror he was a villain

@Joe Lubas also, although it is not in the action genre, an abusive spouse named James Urbanski in Mortal Thoughts with his then-wife Demi Moore and the late Glenne Headley (who played his wife in the film).
He would have been the villain in expendables 2 before Jean Claude Van Damme came aboard.
Saw this as a teen in the theatre. Best part of the movie.
😭😂
One of my favorite scenes of Jack Black.
This was a good desensitization scene when I first saw it at 7. A kick-ass movie for sure.
Seeing Jack Black get done in like this makes my heart warm.
I suspect the likes on this will increase dramatically…
I wouldn't say that. It's no different than what Tenacious D insinuated about the recent attempt on Donald Trump's life.
That’s pretty evil. Why are you like this?
@@coltdawg7299why not?
@@petepoulos because it’s an evil thing to say
Beautiful movie, a true love story.
Beautiful, this clip should have been played at the RNC
