Every now and then, I find myself coming back to this specific scene, even if I don't rewatch the whole trilogy. Everything in this scene is perfect, the editing, the rhythm, the score, the actors, the tension quickly building up, the short but brutal fight and eventually the iconic line perfectly delivered by David Strathairn… I freaking love the original Bourne's Trilogy, but this single scene is on another level of its own...
This whole film was like that. I remember talking to a friend at the time who had seen the film a couple of days before I was going to see it, and I asked him what it was like. He said, "it's pure adrenalin, it's action from start to finish and amazing".

This scene NEVER gets old. NEVER, EVER gets old. No other film has had this type of crisp editing. It's drawing you in and making your gut tight. Then it's over with, 'That's Jason Bourne'. Even if you tell yourself, it's just a movie it'll still suck you in and control you. I think that's amazing.
Absolutely correct. This was easily my favorite of the Bourne films. So many fantastic, suspenseful scenes but this Waterloo one was insane! I've been there and just imagine what it would take for Bourne to strategize in such a busy place. Brilliant stuff!

Sky fall was pretty damn good. Also, Winter Soldier has an extremely similar feel and tone to the Bourne series. Winter Soldier is probably the closest.

I've never seen a movie had that much shot change in just 2 - 5 seconds, but the way Director Edited shot by shot and focusing, zooming, camera finding the target, man its so risky way to direct a movie. Because the viewer might get phase out with so many cuts. Bourne Ultimatum is Classic.
The viewer does get phased out. Its exhausting watching that many cuts, that's why the film works so well. It makes you feel the frenetic energy of being on the lam. So it works in services of the story, but at the same time, whew, still exhausting.
A friend of mine was not a Matt Damon fan and has never watched the Bourne Identity until maybe a couple of years ago. He finally gave in and was blown away by the trilogy!!
The way he took out those guys in such a confined space. Making perfect use of the walls, corners, staircase, doorway and on top of that making them collide against each other to disarm. Every blow is specifically targeted to severely hurt. And the last one is a massive blow but even kind of funny because it just shows how furious he is about the whole situation. Perfect scene.
I wonder how many people realise that the background people in this scene are general public (except for the interior bus scene). They filmed it live in Waterloo without extras. Matt Damon get getting recognised by the public while trying to shoot
I knew because watching the 4K Blu-ray version you can see people in the background realising who it is, also Waterloo station is one of the busiest in London and there's no way they could shut it down to film. 🤔🤔

There have been very few times when shaky cam has worked in action films without inducing nausea, but the first two Bourne films especially did it right. It was more about tension and ferocity than looking cool, something the "Taken" series (for example) never understood.
This was a great action/ espionage trilogy... I'm still a nerd for Ludlum's books and would like to see a version following the original story line... either way... great acting, directing, cool cinematography & ultimately very rewatchable.

Yup, so much so that they had to reboot Bond with Daniel Craig. There was no way they could bring Pierce back after Bourne (and I am Pierce's biggest fan).
The problem with that is the Bond movies then started to emulate the Bourne ones which to me hurt the franchise. The Bond movies always had a element of tongue in cheek about them even with the Brosnan ones. But when the Bourne movies came out. Everyone started to copy them instead of building from them and making something even better. They lost the ability to originate. I personally hate the Craig movies as he didn't have anything that made his take truly stand out from the previous actors. Connery was the original and the blueprint. Moore played up to the characters upper class heritage. Dalton was the wounded hero with a bad attitude. And Brosnan was a mix of all of them taking the best bits and making them work. Daniel Craig was bland, boring and did a better acting job as the American in the first Lara Croft movie. Which is funny as you had a Brit playing a American and a American playing a Brit.

brosnan was actually grittier than previous bonds... tim dalton was like the awkward transition from cheeky to chic bond, but moore and connery, whether you want to admit it or not, were in some pretty cheesy films... but that was the style back then. brosnan was the first "modern" bond, and the craig films built on that. brosnan (die another day) begins with him being tortured for months by the koreans. he says he didnt even want to come back and that it was a mistake to make the trade. craig is just mad at MI6 because vesper died, in skyfall he's champing at the bit to return. silva is trevelyan with fancier toys.
