I know. I really love how the guns in this scene feel heavy and realistic. The way manny holds the SMG to control the crazy fire rate and the way the goon in the bed just sprays because he’s injured and is just firing.
Yeeaahh very realistic... The mac-10 Manny is using has a firing-rate of 18 shots per second and it looks like he's using a 32 round magazine. He'd empty that in less than 2 seconds like brrrrt, instead it goes on like it was fucking belt fed. Also everybody seem to be fumbling around a lot as if they suddenly became extremely clumsy, of course to give Tony the time he needs to get the upper hand and escape. It's probably your lack of knowledge/understanding that makes this scene so great.
Yeah but the fact that they HEAR each other after all that shooting? LOL, impossible. They'd be stone cold deaf for several days after all that shooting in a cramped as hell hotel room.
No one could have played tony better than Pacino. But Steven Bauer played the part of Manny to perfection. They put together a perfect cast where everyone complemented everyone. My favorite movie of this genre and probably a top 20 film all time. Classic.
Yeah Steven Bauer was awesome in this movie. It’s a shame he never reached this level again. He’s had some good roles in Breaking Bad, Traffic and Primal Fear but nothing at the level of Scarface.
I think I saw this in 7th grade at a friend's house. It was probably in the theatre's about four years prior. Years later, this guy I worked with told me he saw it at a drive thru on a date in Long Island. Must have been a crazy movie to see at a drive thru. I had only been to a couple in my whole life and there were only two left out there.
Creepy trivia: The girl with the blue bikini that flirts with Manny left the production and was never seen again. Her name was Tammy Lynn Leppert, she was 18 back then and is missing to this day.
Lots of people went missing back in the day only to have their body found in the Everglades. You never went downtown Miami because crime was so bad. There used to be shootouts between the cocaine cowboys. You had columbian hitmen kill people out in the open to scare people. Crazy times.
😅 you act like this is a documentary. The actor playing chi chi was told by the director how to act & he was reciting his lines 😂😂 you people act like this is real, it’s fiction.
One thing I love about this scene is Tony's overall reaction to the situation. He subtly gives off that he's scared shitless (No one in their right mind wouldn't when faced with the prospect of being cut up with a chainsaw), yet he still shows defiance. Even in the face of almost certain death, he doesn't crack or panic. He just remains almost motionless, like a coiled snake waiting for the right moment to strike. Because one, he's trying to buy time for Manny and Chi Chi to come back him up, and two because he knows that talking won't save him. And it's when Manny busts in guns blazing, that's when Tony finally strikes. Such a well done scene.
standing there with no expression is good acting in your mind? pachino was terrible on every level in this movie. not sure which was worse, his shit tier incoherent accent that sounds nothing like a cuban, or his complete lack of emotion no matter whats happening.

This 4K looks fantastic. I always assumed this movie was a grainy product of the times and we just had to accept it. I had no idea it could look this good.
When you shoot on film, you can transfer and upscale it to very high qualities, even higher than 4K. It's movies shot on digital only that suffer and can't be up-ressed without looking worse or some neural net AI trickery (which still doesn't look as good as natural resolution.)
Depending on which type of film was used to shoot the movie, Film can upscaled past 8K, although at a scan res over ~12K, you'll just be capturing the grain in more detail (overkill).
I love the camera going back and forth in the beginning showing the contrasting moments between a casual talk with the girl to a serious emergency with a chainsaw.
Tony kills all eye to eye and yet meets his end with a shot through the back. Death creeping up on him with every bad decision finally catches up. It's very symbolic.

Pay attention to the extras and how realistically they react as this scene escalated to the street. The old lady grabbing her purse and pushing people out her way to get out of there, and the guy sitting on the end of the porch. He’s watching what’s happening, not really running away until he sees Tony run downstairs after the guy with his firearm. Suddenly he’s like “forget this, I’m out of here!”-I responded to scenes like this in real life and I’ll tell you their reaction was as real as it gets. Great film.
Fun fact: People dont get it about this scene. They actually did kill a real colombian drug dealer to get the reaction they wanted from people. Amazing method acting
The thing that i love so much about this movie is how real the action felt. It has just a hint of that 80s campyness but seeing this feels like im watching a real crime take place in miami beach. Brutal!
No over-the-top CGI BS and jarring, rapidly-changing camera angles. It's more "voyeuristic" in a way. Like something terrible is happening for real and the camera just happens to be there.
Noticed how Tony never kills from behind in this film, he’s sure to look at them in the eye face up. He straight up ran in front before killing him instead of simply putting one in the back of his head.
Lot of people don’t know this but this movie was originally Rated X mostly because of this scene. They fought with the ratings agency several times to lower it to Rated R. The filmmakers were reluctant to cut any scenes and when it finally got it Rated R the movie was shown in its original form. Scarface revolutionized violence in movies.
The cinematography, dialogue snd scene blocking for this film and this scene in particular was so ahead of its time, It looks like a modern day film from today just with a retro timeline-and I saw this in theaters back in 1983.
The only thing that was wrong with that ending was Tony’s sister going full Alabama Ik she was drugged but it ruined the whole thing for me I just thought wtf this is some weird shit
i always found this the longest , most uncomfortable scene, and the one that shows us what Tony's made of, even more so than the refugee camp at the beginning....terrifying, well done, don't do drugs kids.
I don't know how they managed to make such an awesome movie back in the day like this one because it has always been way ahead of its time. It relates to the modern world we live in today (40 years later) teaching life lessons of reality we have to deal with in our lives.

Watch carefully. You never see the chainsaw actually ripping into flesh. But you definitely feel it happening. A little blood splatter, sound effects, terse effective dialogue, and masterful editing. The chainsaw scene is actually created in the viewers mind through suggestion, much like the shower scene in Hitchcock’s Psycho. You never see the knife plunge into Janet Leigh. But you certainly believe it’s happening. Scarface is a masterpiece in filmmaking. Nothing quite like it.

Scarface is three hours of tedium with some good filmmaking sprinkled in. Texas Chainsaw Massacre did everything you just spoke of 9 years before, and much more effectively.
@@TheSultan1470 Yes, that's the point. A couple years back I was planning a family gathering. So I go on craigslist to buy a few extra chairs (the plastic foldable ones) there was this guy who was selling a bunch for cheap so I contacted him and arranged to meet him at his house. When I pull up there's nothing unusual. As I knock on the door the guy raises the Tv volume to the point where I can hear it clearly outside. I took that as my cue to fuck off. I ended up buying the chairs brand new from Walmart.
One of the most brutal scenes in film history. When I saw it for the first time, it really shook me up... and I was a grown man. It ranks up there with the ending of Casino, when Joe Pesci and his brother were brutally beat with baseball bats and buried alive.
I agree it's a great scene but one of the most brutal in film history? Far from it my guy. Like another planet far haha. I can think of many other scenes in films that literally made my jaw drop in shock and cringe in disgust.
The problem here was that the guy Manolo was not paying attention to his job. This is why Angel died. It turned out best for Montana and Manolo however for after this death they immediately became close trusted allies of the boss. For a while at least.
But what if he did survive an became one of his trusted allies as well.. an becomes the one to save Tony in the end from that shot gun to the back!! Ya know extra allies extra eyes.. I kinda wanted him to survive so he could make more movies like this.
Yeah exactly. If Manny was watching the door like he was supposed to, he would have seen the guy come up the stairs with the gun. Angel died because Manolo was chasing ass.
@@AdVictoriam93GTA 3 was also Scarface, they have a ton of the music and certain places are referenced to Scarface in GTA 3. Vice City was meant to be an add on to 3 originally but then they decided to release it as a separate game. Rockstar are massive Scarface fans.
Manny just casually said he didn't remember what he was supposed to be doing that day. Truly a man that thinks with the wrong head. And I like how Tony's inner child came out as he avenged his friend in the head and said, "YOUR TURN!"
The chick Manny was talking to her name was Tammy Lynn she lost her mind went home early from shooting the movie she disappeared and was never seen again to this day!
The beauty of the scene is, for the horror and violence that is happened in the shower, there is no dismemberment shown; just the actors, a lot of blood splatter and the viewer's imagination.
Originally before the guy says “now the leg huh?” There was a shot of Angel without his arm hanging from the other. Too graphic so it cut out of the movie.
The same effect is achieved in The Texas chainsaw massacre - basically you see only around 4% of the horrific and naturalistic gore that is going on. The most frightening aspect is that you as a viewer project your own fears and frustrations and everything that wasn’t directly displayed, you build it up in your imagination. A small but convincing hint is enough.
I like how he followed that guy out into the street & plugged him in front of all those people. The trouble with doing that today is many of those people would be taking video & pictures with their phones & his face would have been plastered everywhere.
Well that's a good thing that if you killed someone and committed a crime, it would be easier to catch you. With all the geotagging and cell phone towers, they can prove you were.
The futility of this situation is crazy, but I appreciate the fact that he had the smarts to inform his crew of the timing of these endeavours as if preparing for a worst case scenario. 👍✌️
What was utterly dumb was he stood there and watched him pull out the chainsaw. At that point he should have rushed him, the chick would have shot, the backup would have came and it would have played out differently.
I don't think that was fear rather brooding anger and rage. Ironically, the one time I saw fear in Tony was when Sosa warns him in their initial meeting. Tony just blankly nods just his mouth somewhat agaped

unpopular opinion, but for me Pacino is heavily overacting in this role.

Dude.. how do you know that? I'm not saying it isn't true I'm just saying she wasn't a main character so how did you get that info?? I'm curious to know
@@leep1285 the news read by his elders or himself weirdo
@@leep1285 yeah it’s true her case was on Unsolved mysteries years ago they didn’t “make out” they were just close to each others face
@@leep1285 judging by how this person uses their full clear name to comment on a scarface youtube video, i'd say there is a possibility they read it in the news before the movie came out
Middle of the street, middle of the day, in the middle of a crap ton of people everywhere, and manny just hops out the car walking in the middle of the street with a Mac 10 just out in the open. Can’t get anymore subtle than that
Not that I have any experience but I think if you were just minding your business on the beach you wouldn't be particularly inclined to notice someone with a compact gun at their side if they're not waving it around. Just move quickly and naturally and it'll stay in people's peripheral vision
It was the 80s. No phones, no cameras.
2 words, 80s Miami
@isaacster5027 you might notice tony executing Mr Chainsaw though.
Marseille des années 2024
One of the best quotes in cinematic history you want me to go back outside come back in we start all over again😂😂😂
I’ve always loved that shot where the camera zooms out of the bathroom as Hector is trying to start the chainsaw and then dollies over to the door where Manny is listening.
I really wasn't expecting Tony's friend to die when i watched it for the first time. Just makes the movie even more unpredictable and better
9:00 not a cell phone in sight, everyone just living in the moment.
“Your turn !”
I'm pretty sure no one would have their cellphone in hand in the middle of a shooting even nowadays, unless it is to call the police
Holy shit true, the amount of fucking people who would just stand there and record today is ridiculous
@@brandonevans3267 what you rather people do, stand there with their mouths agape while a murderer escapes?
@@camerondempsey8990 I don’t know, maybe go help. Do something at least just don’t stand there recording with your phone, cause if you do that then your just a tool
One of the best movies ever made
Idk why, but I always laugh at the part when Tony says, "You want me to come in, we start over?" 😂 🤣 its like...Ok, this bullshit isnt working out, lets do a rewind here lmfao
perhaps the best line in the entire movie!
Haha, where you from catfish?
Yeah, that's how the scene was written and played, you're not noticing the unnoticed
3:08 🤣🤣
I use that all the time
I remember this as one of the most violent scenes I’d ever watched in a movie. Of course now there are many, but this was surreal.
The Film Almost Got The X-Rating at the time
Now you have become conditioned to the violence!!!! Your polluted brain even yearns for it!
@@jonothandoeser You must not have paid attention in history class, humanity has been incredibly violent throughout its history, what we see today is nothing compared to what our ancestors dealt with.
@@prozak715 facts
@@prozak715 Never before has mankind ENTERTAINED themselves so widely by manufacturing violence to read, to watch, to play. Most of the violence throughout history were wars and despotic leaders. Bt they didn't suck on the teet of manufactured violence... like you do.
