I will say that some people think Junkerqueen is reckless but in her cinematic she was very patient and calculated before going all out, like she waited 13 years before getting her revenge. Her gameplay makes sense and this video proves it. She's smarter than she looks!
agreed. patient, smart, and reckless where it counts. that's how she acts, and that's how she should be played. can't be afraid to run in and hit half the team with your axe, but you also gotta be aware of your surroundings and make sure you don't get caught with a bunch of cooldowns. it's an interesting play style.

I started to mess with Junker Queen recently and honestly shocking how much damage she can drop all at once. Like her pepper gun doesnt feel like it does anything until it suddenly does a whole lot its awesome.
The moment the knife brings your opponent to you and you just shoot their face is true bliss, instantly decimates people

I feel so validated as a Ball player seeing SVB have to deal with teammates who expect you to play against an enemy comp a certain way that your character just ISN'T meant to or designed to, and never even attempt to coordinate around the playstyle they should be taking and blame you for not "Being the frontline". I'm not surprised at all that Ball and Junker Queen are the two lowest picked Tanks... They have to deal with being the two hardest mechanically AND require your team to play in ways that no one diamond and below has ever been taught to play nor are they interested in learning.
Oh yeah and they both get hard countered by supports lol (But that's most tanks so...)

I don’t think most players think about coordination or cooldown management to begin with. They are just all so caught up in the emotion and then pointing at the score board. People dumb and you gotta just carry at the end of the day to climb
I LOVED this character as soon as she came out, and I played her a bunch. I played like I was supposed to and did very well at it. It was only when my friends started telling me she wasn’t good and other players telling me she wasn’t good that I kind of… dropped her. I always want to play her, but I don’t like getting yelled at. I suppose to do one thing, I must sacrifice another. Confrontation, here I come.
Do what you love and fight for it bash your friends head it's what junkerqueen would want so they learn to respect the queen 🎸🤘👸

I decided to try playing her recently and realized just how fun she was and just how good she can be if you know what you’re doing with her. My favorite Tank. Only unfortunate thing about her is the fact that she’s not meta and is considered mid but I’ve learned how to make her work.
I have too and even made some epic plays with her
My only complain with her would be how long the Shout CD is, sometimes you feel like a sitting duck when you're out of cooldowns....
I'd love if she had a thing where just tapping shout would make a smaller, weaker version of it (with the same speed bonus) but reduced CD, and holding shout would be the current ability.
It just feels kinda bad having a bunch of up close power but not actually being able to get up close...
she's definitely not mid, just has a very high skill ceiling.

as someone who's been pumping hours into JQ and getting better with her, it's not just knowing when to use her shout but also how to use it. it's a good option to rush or chase down an enemy and poking the enemy team fishing for a pick, but it's also a defensive option when youre aware your teammate is low on health. the 50hp is still enough to save a life but the movement increase enables them to back off faster so they can recuperate (hopefully your support is paying attention to heal lol) while you peel for them (also hope that your support can support you without leaving you hanging).
with this, you have to gauge when you want to solo engage to start the aggression, or play with your team so you can shout and push together. if youre a smart player that's also paying attention to the mistakes you make, you should discern when youve made a mistake, like shouting and engaging without your team properly backing you up when you need them to, or overextending/mispositioning yourself when youre in a situation where you should stick with your team.
only on rare cases will i shout out of spawn to get to point faster, but i keep it reserved until im actually in the fight because most of the time, by the time you re-engage, your shout is still on cooldown, which is what enables her in the first place.
her play style really stays true to her character and honestly thats the most satisfying part
Blizzard out here making JQ true to her character then at the same time they want to make mercy use her pistol and kill people more (the complete opposite of what mercy wants to do)
I've been playing JQ with my usual tank pool and this video is pretty spot on with her playstyle and learning curve. You have to earn your kills and the satisfaction of doing a lot and knowing it is just raw skill is crazy and hella fun.
The downside of junkerqueen really is that she's ultimately designed as a brawly tank. But there are tanks that are infinitely better than that. Reinhardt is a better brawl with just Lucio. Orisa is a "middle" ranged brawl tank but can excel close range as well. Plat players simply don't understand this, I tried my hardest with my duo who has climbed to gm before as JQ and it never worked. They simply don't know how to play with or against a JQ. On top of that, her values gets denied hard just by having Ana Kiriko. The second I stopped picking her I started climbing all the way into Masters. JQ skill to reward value is simply too different. She is unfortunately hella fun tank, and I keep picking her regardless if my team genuinely doesnt want to play around her.
(p.s. : for gods sake, please stop being brig against Mei Rein Lucio, they'll just fucking shut you down if you walk up to them, just boop them away, just cuz im "brawly" doesn't mean I am gonna be brawly.)
agreed. i miss beta 2 when she was meta. i know she was too strong, and the nerfs were justified (if not a little much). but back then she almost felt more fair? a mediocre jq was basically a throw pick, but a really good jq could just carry an entire game. and honestly, i think that was healthier for the hero. having a high skill ceiling character that is actually good is fun!
@@astupidlylongnamethatstoolong idk if i'd call reinhardt a better brawler. he does more damage more easily, but jq has much more utility and solo survivability, as well as potential damage. if you can play her well, that is. i ususally win my tank fights as jq, rein or otherwise. though he specifically does cause the most trouble, and it's always close.

I'm a JQ main (masters) I do agree reins better, orisa is better on paper but as long as your a knowledgeable JQ player you can out do the best orisas (it can be difficult tho)
Kiriko does counter but you should try to force out Suzu and then use your ult. Sombra actually pairs really well with jq and makes playing against your counters way easier. Ana is annoying as hell but if you have a kiriko it evens it out.
I'd say jq is a dark horse pick, to pull her off at the highest level you do have to do everything right unfortunately.

Personally, I like a lineup of JQ, Sombra, Kiriko. (I know sombra isn't amazing but I really feel she takes advantage of JQs playstyle and can help out her weaknesses)
For the other support I'd typically like, lucio, ana, mercy.
The other dps is situational.
I love this series. I feel like it's so much more helpful than an "educational" unranked to GM or even the "guides" others put out.
It’s so much better because it’s someone marking their experience learning a hero instead of going like…
“Hey guys, follow these 3 tips to counter any hero”
And they’re like either basic ass tips or tips for people who already do well.
As a JQ main myself I feel so much better knowing that I’m earning my kills with her. She is a hard tank to pick up but give it some time and patience and you’ll dominate
After you learn a support you should learn Sigma! I feel that Sigma has so much hidden value that so many players can't see with your grasp being an ult counter, your rock being able to secure kills and stop ultimates, your shield being able to block LOS in very creative ways, and your ult being in a similar case to Junkerqueen's where you have to wait out so many important support cooldowns to use it! Sigma is so rewarding when you learn him and there's so much outplay potential with the hero that makes me love the character!
I loooove playing Sigma against snipers. He's not a mobile tank but he can toy with people at long ranges. His balls also do surprising amounts of damage! You can often get many kills with Sig!

technically his entire kit is an ult counter. his rock can stun people out of ults, his grasp can eat things like grav, pulse and mei ult, and his shield can block things like bomb, tire, and high noon
I don't know about a lot "hidden value"... but you are right he can do a lot.
JQ and Rammattra are both so well designed. So fun to play!
Orisa has been my main since OW1 and now it's Queen. I think the hardest part of her knife is how quickly between primary shots you wanna use it but it has a totally different speed and arc. So you've gotta have your brain juggle between "shotgun" and "knoife" using the same cross hairs. It's very difficult and unnatural to learn.
As a fellow Junker Queen main, it takes a while to get used to her weapons, but man, once you understand how too, it’s amazing. The absolute RUSH of using her and getting those easy kills 😩
I did not expect you to be a 50k sub youtuber. Overwatch Content creators like you are really under appreciated.

This is a great series, would love to see this treatment for Lucio.
Lucio is nuts at high level. It’s just in lower ranks most people don’t have a clue what his value comes from and just “go lucio” without understanding the value. Simple things are speeding your tank to brawl or booping their team closer to yours. But then there’s the niche stuff that only comes to you In a dream you has while Froggers stream plays while you sleep.
Bro Lucio isn’t hard or as bad as jq. I don’t even play support and never planned too. But I easily got to D1 in 2 days playing him only. He’s not a hard character to use

I really enjoy this types of videos! I also find it wild that you were getting flamed by the supports, playing Mercy/Lucio. Like, I'm curious to know how they expected to put out the amount of heals needed to break a choke, especially with a high-maintenance DPS like Bastion.

I think how you described how she actually plays kinda fits her in the short. She never intends to kill anyone in the arena, so she just takes people's aggression and tries to turn it into spectacle, always having control. Kt's why she is percieved so cool, or maybe I'm remembering the short wrong

This is why I fell in love with Overwatch 1, that feeling when a hero 'clicks' is the most satisfying thing about the game, you level up not only your understanding of a hero but you get to see the game in a whole new light.

Hey came to say, thanks to watching your video, idecided to start trying to get good with junker. Taken about 7-8 hours but man ive got 5 potg’s in the last 1.5-2hours and im having a blast. One match i was alive for almost the entire match on point repeatedly battling their whole team while my team kept coming back. Im only plat though so it wouldnt work in higher ranks, but man is she fun. I struggle when i have a team that plays from distance, but when i can get a team to play aggressive, its a blast. Thanks so much for your vid bro, i have almost all the ow1 characters in my kit, but had zero interest in learning ow2’s characters. Thanks bro

Love this! I've tried to explain this to friends. You can't just face tank damage with shout and YOLO it. I've learned the patience from playing DPS/Tank Doom.

Lucio would be amazing for this since he has multiple techs involving his wall riding. The awareness you learn to have to constantly peel for teammates with boop, speed amp, visualizing wall positioning. He offers a lot of utility and it would be fun to see you learn Lucio

Haha that intro was gold where they flamed you. Just got a hamster game where they told me to repaeatedly switch off. I got most dmg and most elims, only to get told "i didnt do anything" and that "literally no one feared me"
One of the best tips I can give is don't worry about the knife miss hitting someone, if you miss you can do damage overtime and can hit more at a time.
SEEMING like she’s all gung ho, going crazy but under the hood she’s battle and smart, using everything at her disposal at the right time is very fitting for the character of junker queen. We see in her cinematic when she first beats the king that she a little new to what she’s doing in battle, but still using everything she can to win. Now I’m game, at a later point in time, she has the confidence to act all crazy but she’s still being smart and savvy. Putting the player in her shoes can make you realize how difficult it would be, but for someone like Queen it’s easy it just looks like she’s crazy. Or maybe I’m reading into it too much

I would love a video that explains the comp matchups and playstyle that your team didn't understand. I have trouble thinking what we should do sometimes when we're getting rolled and my game knowledge is not what it was when I used to go hard in OW1.

She’s a blast to play, lots of fun and if you can reliable hit her tech / no when to be patient and when to go hard/ proper cd management. She’s amazing.

personally believe, that she plays a lot like brig. She felt natural to me from the start. Let the enemy commit and punish them. Use shout as either "Oh, you think you can just walk off?" or "gonna need those extra HP real Quick."/possibly to save a squishy team mate who is dangerously low.
And i feel like this video confirms my playstyle on her. Just dont play enough tank recently. After all, i can just go to bed when i wanna sleep. No need to let myself get slept by ana 20 times in a minute. God that feels so annoying, now that it's the last stun outside of tanks
I played JQ when I first started playing OW2, but then I stopped. I recently picked her back up and yeah she is fun to play for sure
I think my biggest flaw with this character is I sometimes just get frustrated with counters. But thanks for letting me know about bonus for axing a ton of enimes

Also...if you learn how the arch and distance of the knife works, it is VERY satisfying to sneak up on a high ground widow and sniper her yourself from below.

Ngl-- I LOVE JQ. She's my most played tank next to Rein and Zarya whenever I get tired of being bullied every match on Ana (it's great having 0 escape when someone wakes up your sleeping-would-be, soon-to-be-murder) and I honestly have a lot of fun with her. My favorite thing is that unlike most other tanks-- her utility is insane. Being able to save people on my team by Shouting, throwing Gracie into a dive DPS, going in deep with Rampage, pulling that hero off my supports and axing down a team to give immediate space for my team is insanely fun.
I'm slowly working her to my 3rd most played hero under Ana and Phara.

Best thing you can do is bait out Suzu or nade first then Ult or pounce with shout once you see they're on cooldown. Pick your moments with discernment when you are being countered.
not gonna lie i love swapping to queen when my team is trash, might as well have fun. The axe and knife are so satisfying.
I recently started player junker queen and I enjoy playing her. Having a good pocket heals makes you feel immortal. But I also learned that you HAVE to use her axe whenever you can or you’ll lose the fight.
You damn near feel immortal already in lower elo where mechanical skill doesn’t exist. Hop on the objective and just run around, do bleed, heal and pop shout. Repeat ad nauseum or until your team gets back from spawn

i also recenlty found that i have the msot fun AND very surprising impact on junker queen and DVa. they play similiar in a way that you have ti be patient n observant, wait for the moment to pounce n take that squieshy out and then snowball things from there.
but i 100% agree that we are somehow back to “play rein or get flamed by your team 8/10 times”. still laughing when my team screams for shields when we play against tracer n genji n echo n pharah.
I been rocking Queen since release. She’s my favourite tank to play. Like you said, there’s no free value but when everything is clicking you can carry so hard
junkerqueen is op. double her shout cooldown to make her balanced
There is nothing more satisfying as a Junker queen than landing the knife, dragging them over to you, and then landing a huge smash hit on them with the axe.

Ive been having fun as JQ.
But if i could rework her kit some, it would be as follows:
The shout: perhaps it adds an additional +50 shield for every kill JQ lands before shouting in that life, capping off somewhere between 6 and 10 kills to really add more damage mitigation.
If not that, then maybe an "intimidation" factor so that enemies caught within the shout are slowed down a bit, albeit briefly.
Carnage: perhaps add a knockback to the axe swing in addition to the bleed.
I think ball is possibly the hardest to pick up because of how different the tank plays as far as mobility and how the damage relies on hit and run. It's not at all a similar style compared to other tanks but JQ was super easy to pick up on for me. Without shield I quickly learned to play her almost as though she was a dps though I could afford to soak up some damage here and there
I got the hang of it after like 2hrs. But its hard push enemies back unlike Sigma or Ramattra, but it's easy to hold a point for a bit longer

The biggest thing that helped me learn jq is timing shout, the fact that I used to use to to start the fight💀

I started playing JQ almost exclusively (sometimes a little DF or Zarya on the side) and honestly she's in a good spot. She's not over compensated and balanced quite well. The only thing that would make her better is nerfing other characters at this point. She's got a fun kit, and along with her fantastic design, she's a aggressive and oppressive tank.
I do have to say you calling her shots hard to land is strange, she's a shotgun tank, needs to be up mid to close range to be effective and has a decent spread to hit comfortably with even if you aren't on target. Her knife is strange though. It goes far, has an arc that never quite comes down when it's launched, so it's in some ways a fantastic tool. You can yank a Widow on the ledge down the street of Havana from the payload starting point for example quite easily. It's a little dumb when you think about it, but the knife is one of my favorite tools to use with her.
Overall JQ is hard countered by Ram and Orisa on the tank side. Rein a little, but you can actually work around him and fight him well, 1v1 even, if you time your abilities correctly. I'd say they are quite even. Orisa and Ram though just won't die, unless you can get the supports first. They have so much armor (Ram's alt form specifically) and generally are pocketed, you get almost no value from bleeds (if Kiriko doesn't cleanse it) that it will almost always result in you losing the fights against them.
What JQ works best in is perhaps Push and Capture Point maps. Some payload maps too, but anywhere she can just brawl and find flanks for getting on the squishies, she's going to dominate. I've learned that if you're not basically first or second in eliminations, you're probably not doing anything as JQ for your team. She's basically a carry.
as someone who has just enough aim to play reaper consistently, i decided to try junkerqueen too. And holy shit i felt it too. When you pop off it's not BS, the knife is hard to hit and not always impactful but you still need to keep hitting it to force opportunities. Absolutely incredible tank design. Maybe the only flaw would be that self heal/bleed makes it very hard for an opponent to know if the queen is killable.

To be blunt, I don't even play OW anymore, but you're giving me hope SVB. Keep these vids up. I think Mercy would be good next. The drop between a good Mercy and a bloody amazing Mercy is extremely large. I'm curious to what a GM Mercy coach would tell you that differs from "regular" play.
I just recently started her. Once you get hang of the mechanics and basic positioning she is just a fucking beast
I'm dog doo doo at fps games but the after finding the queen to my king a couple days ago I've never had so much fun. Ana hasn't been a big problem for me since I tend to flank snipers as any hero. This vid really helped me tho
I love playing as junkerqueen and even dominate under the right circumstances, but she probably gets hard countered more than any other hero rn so I think she could be improved with 3 changes:
- Make her healing faster instead of increasing it.
- Make the healing still active even if it gets cleansed
- Let her be able to cancel her ult or maybe give her a passive

This might be too much, but I'd say... cancel Ana's anti on JQ's self-healing. Assisted healing from supports and other heroes can be cancelled sure, but goD the antinade is a hard counter beyond the bell.
@@Devilcakes Yeah after playing her again I see what you mean, from what I heard she was made during ow1 as an off tank so that explains why she has worse self heals than reaper
