I was just thinking this morning that I hadn’t seen a video from you in a while and like magic a notification popped up! Thanks for another great one Neil. It’s funny how people seem to think they can tell you what their rights are when you’re the one supplying the work. I just shake my head at this approach but it definitely will come back to bite them in the future. Bad karma and all that jazz.

This has become an issue for me. I've only been on Fiverr for 3 months and done over a hundred orders already - but realised some clients particularly from some industries really use the platform in an exploitive way (cough video editors). I had one client go so far as to order an American VO from me without speaking to me, get angry when it wasn't with a British accent, re-record it in my Oxfordshire accent (with a warning that a British client probably doesn't want an Oxford accent) and then they refuse to complete the order because their client didn't like it.
They then threatened to give me a bad review if I didn't work for them for free on future orders. I reported it to Fiverr's customer support who initially did nothing misunderstanding my complaint. I then reported the customer service staff on the satisfaction review, and one of their managers finally dealt with the issue, cancelled my order, and removed the negative stats from my account.
Moral of the story: just because it's fiverr does not mean you should be blackmailed or abused - and there are definitely buyers on the platform who try to exploit it.

I was just having a conversation with other voice actors about using Fiverr and then this video pops up in my feed. I had to send it to them! Great stuff as always Neil.

I cancel so many orders on fiverr. Thats one of the things i dont like about Fiverr is that people order from you without speaking with you, versus there being an option to accept. I also dislike the fact that most ppl expect to pay less than really whats worth the time lol

As a lyricist…I’m trying to figure out how to copyright my lyrics before I present them to the buyer…not sure if voice overists have the ability to copyright…but I haven’t found a quick way to copyright overnight or upload to ascap or whatever by the time I deliver the work. That way, the lyrics are already in the system somewhere monitoring TH-cam and what not for your copyrighted material. Otherwise…well I’ll just never know if you used my lyrics until it’s already a hit…

Just started a couple of days ago! Thank you for the information as I am new to doing voice overs for people. I’m more of a voice impressionist but they can also order my natural voice as well. Say if they wanted my Pennywise voice and it’s for commercial use. Do I charge for that license? Technically it’s not my natural voice.

I am still learning about commercial vs broadcast rights. So lets say for example someome uses your voice for purposes not originally recommended. What does Fiverr do to help you? Is there any legal recourse at all?

Hi! I was literally wondering about the commercial and broadcast rights problem a few days ago and TH-cam read my mind and showed me this!!! Thank you!!!! I have a follow up question about the rights part ... I've had a client recently tell me that they don't need Broadcast or Commercial rights for their order, but the content in the script is clearly a commercial. How do I go about getting to the bottom of the matter and asking them to be upfront about what the VO is going to be used for, without sounding too pushy...? Thank you so much in advance!!!

Sounds like a Fiverr client? The reality is if it has commercial rights needs then they should pay. Don’t be afraid to walk away

They do not own anything that have not paid for. I turn down more work than not on Fiverr because of that

I have a question, let's say I want a short voice over for a youtube video on my hobby channel with education content (not existing yet), which may get me some revenue from youtube ads, or may not. Should I order Commercial Rights in that case? And do I have to renew that each year or how does it work?

What do you think of gigs that advertise included Commercial rights? (Usually added into their price)

    • @CrownStagVoiceover

Really it depends on what to price on offer is. I have been offered £100 including buyout for projects. It’s way to little
