I always gave my husband tips on script etc and one day he said we need you in the video. As soon as he turned the camera on, I froze....no more words....complete silence! The fear of embarrassment is so real as it plays in with the imposter syndrome and being found by people you know. Arrgghh

I have the face that sank a thousand ships. My brothers don’t visit me, as they’re scared their children will have nightmares 😂 Many years ago, one of my favorite preachers/ministers said “every time I look in the mirror, I see proof that God has a great sense of humour”. I have carried this with me through life. Thank you for the great series of videos. They are helping me a lot.
The more authentic faces that are show in media the better, it shows the young ones that we indeed look different and we should AND it is beautiful. This made me selfreflect, I won't let my middleaged saggy, pale face stop me. Thank you ❤
Now YT is reading people's minds. I haven't even searched the topic and here I'm watching your video. I already deleted a channel because of fear. Now I'm taking my time before physically appearing on this one. Thanks for sharing.

I'm the same!! Those videos were fun at first, and I may still watch one every so often... but I completely agree with you! Glad you liked the video! :-)
one idea is to do screen recordings with your face in a small window overlay. Start with your face video being small and increase face time as confidence grows. Or start with only your voice
I've made almost 500 TikTok videos and over 100 videos on TH-cam, and I still need to improve. We must live very close as I've often sailed in that area. Thanks for the great video!
Correct, the advice is to start and the rest will come in time. When you start you are not going to be good at all the things like video, audio, editing, thumbnails, descriptions, hashtags, etc. A mic for me was not a negotiable. When I started I got a rode micro. But I used my phone as well. Plus our generation really holds a ton of knowledge.
Me too, started a channel about life as an expat in Thailand 2 years ago at 61 years old doing random things with travel, ebikes, coffee and building a solar powered sea container tiny house. Only 560 subscribers but still camera shy! Ebikecnx7239
The camera tech stuff is easy, scripting, generating ideas, telling a story, being comfortable on camera, being yourself on camera, editing the story, making it short enough that people will watch, those things are tough. Great job on this topic. Larry
Well said! Except, the camera tech stuff isn't easy for some... I think because there are so many options out there and some of those options ARE quite tech heavy. I think some people are discouraged by how much tech knowledge they think they need... and I'm hoping to try to alleviate those concerns! The camera stuff CAN be super easy... all you really need is the camera in your phone :-)
Thank you for the encouragement! I can see from the comments just how many people are appreciating this! I have wanted to do this for over a decade (and just made it into my 40s a year ago). I'm not sure fear is what has stopped me as much shame. I'm not where I want to be in life, in many ways, but I'm also very aware of this being my very own doing, and I still have gratitude for many things. A weeks back, I posted a couple clips playing guitar as part of a friendly jam off, and it was interesting to see myself on screen. Even got a few nice comments from random people checking it out after interacting on other videos. I think the main thing that holds us back besides fear is "the resistance," which is that voice that creative people experience for any number of reasons that pushes against our artistic intuitions. It's the part of us that tries to sabotage our own success and even our joy. This all comes from Steven Pressfield and his book THE WAR OF ART. I think you should do a video on this! It is the perfect topic to compliment this one! The book is a really fun and easy read (at least in the literal sense, maybe not in the sense of acting on it), and anyone who is getting into TH-cam would benefit immensely from reading it. Cheers and thank you! Let me know if you've read the book! If not, you're in for a treat!😊
The first clip is exactly me 2 years ago lol . Not hundred but probably thousand of that clips in total . For anyone seeing this , the more you do it , you won’t shy anymore . People will watch you for who you are wheather you are speaking in English, your own language or even broken English like me . I usually got comment on Titkok that people like the way I speak in broken English . No one ever told me that before I start youtube and thank them for encourage me to not shy in front of camera anymore
Since you mention lighting… a super simple / cheap solution is a reflector to fill in the shadows. You can buy a specific photo reflector, but a car window shade or even poster board works great. I prefer white, but silver or gold can work if you like the effect. Thanks again for the “just do it” video series!
I started a Photography niche TH-cam channel. I’m 50. I can say the first 1k subscribers is a slow climb. Until you get 1k subs you’re not making a penny. It’s a slow crawl but I’m not giving up.
Hey rob, ride the wave, focus on this topic, old people becoming youtubers, 50 something empty nester, what to do with the rest of their lives, document your life before you die, explore and do something different. These are topics people are more likely to click on vs cap cut how tos or camera or video tech. Older people should be encourage to share alll the things they have learned before they die. Larry
I love your videos! I’m quite a bit older than 40 and 40 is young to me but age is just a number, it’s really true and I think that more people who are much older should come forward and let the world know just how active and still very involved they are. Never stop learning!
I have been on TH-cam for awhile, and I still have problems talking on my videos, mainly because I am shy. And I am really shy, so I mess up quite often, and even when I get a decent take, it still isn't very good. I really enjoy these videos.
The best advice I can give is that the more you practice it the better you'll get. That's what is working for me. I wish you the best of luck with it :-)
Plus, putting yourself out there is a great way to get you to pay more attention to your appearance and health. It builds confidence, emotional maturity and resilience too.
That's a GREAT point!! Sometimes freelancers may get stuck in a rut and since they don't have to go out maybe they don't even clean themselves up in the mornings... but knowing you're going to make a video of yourself would probably motivate those people to get ready properly! It's like preparing for an important meeting :-) Thanks for sharing!
I started to follow you a few days ago, and I love the authenticity of your videos. I'm an English learner and am using your videos to practice listening and speaking because I shadowing you. You're convincing me to record my own videos and start my channel. Thanks for your videos and congratulations on your work.
Open youtube app, hit record, face the camera to you say something, publish, repeat. Get better with each one. 5 years later we have hundreds of videos, im 60. Larry
Being able to laugh at yourself is SO important, not just for having a TH-cam channel, but for life in general. I learned that back in my late 20s (some 35+ yrs ago) through a book called "Growing Up Firstborn." It really makes life easier and more enjoyable as a whole.
I just started my channel and the biggest obstacle I had was getting in front of the camera. I've had it pointed out to me that I have avoided the front of a camera for over 40 years. Now I'm recording talking head videos. And yes, I was actually told I was too old for about 15 years.
Being in front of the camera and talking to it is an ENTIRELY different beast than being behind the camera and filming others... as you've found out! Thanks for sharing your experience! :-)
#over40 here. Starting a channel myself and definitely camera shy. I've been doing daily vlogs (2-4 minutes) each morning and evening just to get used to talking more to my phone. I also took a camera confidence course which is helping. Keep up the great work Rob!
Doing daily vlogs is a great idea to help overcome the camera-shyness! Same with the camera confidence course... it seems you're on a mission to get better and that's awesome!! Good things will come to those who put in the work... good luck to you!! :-)
Very good informative videos Rob. Just recently discovered your channel but I love your authenticity and honest practical advice. I’m 51 and only started my channel in January. You are so right with your advice. You have to just start. Mind you I do need to take my shades off more: lol. Keep it up.
Thank you... and congrats on starting your channel this year and already up over 7,000 subs! That's awesome and very inspiring for others to read here in the comments :-) And yeah I hear you about the sunglasses... when I was in my teens and 20s I always "wore shades" as in my head I looked exactly like Tom Cruise in Risky Business with them on. It's all about looking cool when you're young (or what you think is cool at the time!) But now as I age, I just don't care anymore... sunglasses are for keeping the sun out of my eyes now lol! But when making videos and trying to connect with an audience, I think it's very wise to take them off and make eye contact... that applies to videos but also face to face conversations (IMO of course)! Anyways! Keep it going and continued success with your channel! :-)
This was the best video I’ve seen on this very niche-ed topic. Nobody talks about this. I did live television on a major PBS affiliate for several years yet I do have some trepidation about TH-cam. Not camera shy but I suppose speaking about myself is a different animal. Thanks so much for your sensitivity. 🌿
Thank you very much! I’m really appreciating your videos. I’m only at 13 subscribers and it feels really difficult to gain more, but I’m keeping at it. Yes-the fear is sooo real! 🙈 Thank you for your inspiration ✨
The fear is ABSOLUTELY real! And there's nothing wrong with it... but it feels so liberating when you finish recording and upload the video! Then just move on to the next :-) You've got this!
@@RobtheMaritimer you’ve inspired me as I’ve watched a BUNCH of your videos. I’m on day 3 of 100 creating SOMETHING each day. Gotta start somewhere 🙌🏼😊
Good job, I’m glad you’re talking about it as an older person. You are very brave. I admire everything that you said I appreciate the information. I’m working towards doing my own channel as well. I am 78 and know more about stuff about life than my 50 and 60 year-old kids. But I had to consider they know more than I do now of course that’s what they think but they constantly insult my intelligence by explaining things that are obvious because I’m getting older. I don’t remember anything. I forgotten more than they’ll ever know. thanks for making the video, I like it God job
Thank you :) And you're absolutely right... older generations know more than younger generations whether the younger ones believe it or not! Knowing more includes wisdom beyond what the younger people can possibly have. Cheers :-)
Hey, Rob, sure could use an affiliate link to that Quadlock tripod mount 😉😁😆 I use Quadlock on my motorcycle and the phone mount gets in the way when I try to use the ol' clamp mounts on my tripods or sticks.
Haha no problem! Here it is: amzn.to/3yr1CNs I use quadlock on my trail bicycle, and keep the quadlock case on my phone all the time... this tripod mount makes it super convenient :-)
Hey, I grew up at the Hd of the Bay so thanks for showing me some of my favourite islands of my sailing youth! And really great content, I shall put it into practice!
I subscribed when your over 40 MUST start a YT channel showed up in my feed. I've watched the last few, and I like your angle. It's good. Maybe I will get up the nerve to get in front of the camera again.
lol, this is all to familiar when i go on camera. I mean the bloopers at the end. I noticed something that has kinda helped me on my other channel is just do it don't overthink it then cut the umm and ahhhs and dead spaces after lol
My 60th birthday is fast approaching and I've been toying with the idea of starting a TH-cam channel for my birthday. My only holdup is figuring what to talk about or do on my channel. Thanks for the helpful videos!
If you're looking for ideas to talk about, it's time to brainstorm! Think about the things you're good at, what skills you have. It doesn't have to be fancy... it could be every day stuff. Maybe you're good at BBQing, gardening, running, walking, talking... maybe you're an introvert and can just talk about the benefits and challenges of that... or maybe there's something in your work life you're really good at that you could talk about or help people with. And think about ways you can help others with these things. In other words, instead of just talking about stuff you're good at and why you're good at it... switch it around and instead talk about it in a way that helps others.... like, "this is how you do this"... or "this is how I do this, for those who want to do it too...". Once you have a bunch of ideas ready, my advice would be to make your first video an introductory video about you. Just talk to the camera and tell people about yourself and the channel you've started.... then your follow up videos can start exploring some of the ideas you came up with. Anyways, sorry for the long-winded answer... I hope some of that helps! :-)
Another great video Rob! In our first travel videos we did mostly voiceovers for narration, and since then have transitioned to “talking head” in studio for the Aroll with the location footage as B Roll. In September we’re making the jump to mostly on-camera location commentary on our trip to Ireland… Scary!😂Keep up the good work!❤
Thank you! And good luck with the location commentary... that sounds exciting! You're continuing to level up your videos by learning and conquering new methods for creating your videos and that's awesome! Keep it up and best of luck!! :-)
I suppose I could've put a light on me as well to help remove the shadows... but knowing my luck it would've fallen overboard!! AND one of the points I was trying to make is that being perfect doesn't matter haha! Thanks for the feedback :-)
Hey, I’m 82 and just got monitored a couple months ago! I enjoy it but I think my antique age is probably my niche??? Also a reseller on eBay and Poshmark.
Congratulations!! Yes your age COULD be your niche… but doesn’t have to be. If you just be yourself then people will naturally want to hear from you! Best of luck with it! :-)
For me it’s more keeping people engaged in the content. I’m a horrible communicator and I do believe this is a big disadvantage for me. I will keep going and learning since this could be due to being camera shy? Thanks for the video.
@@RobtheMaritimer oh yes I hear you I live near the sea which I love, it's beautiful in the summer, freezing in the winter. The North sea where I live can be wild at times which is memerising to watch 😊
I fully expected the horizon to be moving all over the place because of the waves... but when I got home and checked the footage is when I realized my iPhone must have stabilization built in because the horizon was perfectly still! That was done automatically by my iPhone... pretty crazy!
One of these days my time will align with yours & I'll be able to ask these questions live -- meanwhile.... I'm having a synching issue. I followed your recommendation of separating my audio & video track. Then duplicated my video track -- so I can use one as a full screen track and one as a guy-in-a-circle track. The problem -- I thought I kept everything synched between the sound and the mouth movement, yet the sound seems to be just a tiny smidgeon out of synch with the video movement. I searched for a nudging tool of sorts that would allow me to nudge any of my video portions a little, one way or another, to bring the sound and motion back into synch. And tips in that regard? Or would it be better to NOT separate the audio from one of the tracks?
I don't use any such nudging tool... what I find works best is to zoom WAY in, then click and drag one of the tracks a little to the left or right. If you're zoomed way in you'll be able to move it one frame at a time, as you'll see the clip snap to the next frame in the timeline. I hope that makes sense!
Thank you for this video Rob! Great tips! I started making videos late last year after chemo, but find that I like to make them really short and to the point. It makes me less nervous. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still extremely nervous when I make them, but I’m not yet comfortable making longer videos yet. 😫😭🤦🏾♀️
Congrats on starting your channel! Having to go through chemo probably gives you a whole new perspective on things too, and probably lots of things you could share in your videos if you wanted to. Most of my earlier videos were very short too... mainly because I always tried to pretty much memorize everything I wanted to say.... and my mind can only hold so much at a time haha! But when I talk to friends and family, I tend to take a long time to explain things... and so what I try to do now is picture myself just trying to explain things to people I know. That's why I really only need bullet points at this point.... read a bullet point (which could be just a question someone may ask me), then I'll just talk about it and give an honest answer. That's my current way of going about it and it seems to work... but it does mean my videos probably end up being longer than they have to be. Good thing I'm speaking to people over 40 who more often don't mind slower and longer explanations lol!! Good luck to you :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer Thank you!! Oh yeah, it definitely gives me a new perspective, and knowledge that I hope can help someone. 🙏🏾 Ha! I love these tips, and I'll definitely use them! Also, thank you so much for responding! Over 40 crew in the house!! 😃
@@RobtheMaritimer Quick story: I started a YT channel in 2020 after surviving a massive and sudden cardiac arrest. I had wanted to start one for years, and after having a near-death experience, I decided to go for it. I had posted about five or six videos in the health and wellness field, most with no formal script and going off the cuff like these videos. I was going through some significant physical and mental health issues back then (which have been an issue for me for decades, actually, and the basis of what I wanted to talk with people about). Still, my anxiety became so intense I was diagnosed with PTSD. I took a break from not just the channel but a lot of things. I've had a long road to recovery, and the last two years, especially the past year, have been much better. I've always loved to write, and I've since developed a passion for publishing stories online (because I feel better), but I'm considering starting a new YT channel (I closed out everything that was there from 2020). The problem is, I don't know what to post about. Do I post telling stories of my medical experiences and cross-link the videos to my online published stories? I can't decide if that's what I want to get into. I have many passions, such as fishing and other things, but I have no desire to start channels for them. My gut tells me to post videos of my medical experiences to help others going through similar battles because I've come back from the depths of hell. So I have a lot to give to people. I'm just not sure if I should. My wife won't love me going into depth of my clinical anxiety and depression stories either. So, I'm just on the fence about what to do. I recently saw your "over 40" video and became somewhat motivated to get back into YT. Some friends who are close to me are begging me to take the writing further, including writing a book. I'm just thinking things will grow better if I get a YT channel started first. In any event, I'm trying to decide not so much the "how" as I already know how to create and edit videos. It's more of the "why". Thanks for replying. Mike from Ontario here!
Thank you! In this case it helped that there was no wind... I didn't have a wind screen for the mic but I will next time in case there is wind. Also, I placed the mic in the middle of my chest because when I had it higher up on my collar it was too loud and there was distortion. So basically, it's about finding the right position for your mic, and the only way I know if to do that is to test it several different ways and see what sounds best. The mic I used was just an inexpensive PowerDewise lav mic. I hope that helps :-)
Great video. First-time viewer. I do feel that TH-cam is the king of freedom of speech censorship though, and I don’t think they will last in the coming years. That makes me wonder do I really want to put the time and effort into this platform as a creator., Especially as so many TH-camrs are getting burned out and taking a break from TH-cam or leaving altogether.
You really have to enjoy it to do it long term. If you don't then you'll be susceptible to burn out like a lot of others. But if you enjoy it and don't put too much pressure on yourself then it's something you can do long term and the success will follow. Best of luck to you :-)
I use Camtasia to edit all my videos and it has a built-in screen recorder. Having said that. I only use it when making dedicated tutorial videos for clients. When I make my own that has my face in them I use OBS to capture my screen. I hope that helps :-)
So inspiring yet again! I am swedish, should I focus on my own language before trying with english... ok that made sense, not to complicate matters even more. I think too much and I havent even started yet 😂
One of the channels I've watched a lot (and learned a lot from) is Peter Lindgren's channel @PeterLindgren1 who does all his filming in and around his home in Sweden. English is not his native language but he does all his videos in English and I think it adds to the relatable-ness (is that a word??) and just makes him seem more human. I find it funny when he gets a bit stuck on the language sometimes and just spouts off a lot of Swedish words that I don't understand... and he has fun with it. Anyways... I can't really answer your question as it probably depends on the audience you're trying to reach... but you may want to reach out and Peter perhaps leave a similar comment in one of his videos and ask him his thoughts on it. I hope that helps! Best of luck to you :-)
I used the PowerDeWise lapel mic (or lav mic, lavalier mic) in this video. It's not super high quality but does the trick! I've got a link to it in the description below under "Equipment I used in this video". Cheers :-)
Hey Rob --- I've been studying your videos for almost two months now, and have finally generated my first 2 TH-cam videos -- er, almost two. I ran into an unwanted caption issue & thought I'd run it by you. When I render my video, it produces with the name of the video as a caption that lasts for the first few seconds in the video. Is there any way / or a best way to make that NOT show up?
@@RobtheMaritimer I got a shout out to Pi, who responded with this: To prevent Camtasia from adding the video title as a watermark to your exported video, you'll need to modify the settings before producing the video. Here's a step-by-step guide: Open your project in Camtasia. Click on the "Share / Export" menu at the top and select "Local File." In the "Local File" window, select the "MP4" option under the "Format" dropdown menu. Under "Video Settings," click on the "Options" button. In the "Options" window, uncheck the box that says "Include video title as watermark." Click "OK" to close the "Options" window and then click "Next" in the "Local File" window. Choose a location to save your file and click "Finish." Now, when you export your video, it should no longer have the watermark with the video title. I did the above & my watermarked title disappeared.
Hey Lilly (if that is your name ;)... Honestly I think your channel name is great, Lilly in the Field! It's memorable and catchy. It's kind of similar to mine, Rob the Maritimer... just something a little different. Your channel name really doesn't have to have anything to do with the content you make... it CAN, but it doesn't have to. Mine doesn't. I like the ocean and boats and therefore I added "The Maritimer" after my first name... but the content I make has nothing (or very little) to do with the ocean. If you plan on maybe having a website in the future, or a presence on other social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, etc), then whatever name you choose I would suggest also trying to get a domain name in the same name for your website, and also the same usernames for all those other platforms... or at least something close... that will all help with branding in the future... it'll help your audience if all the different ways they can contact or interact with you are all named the same! That's all just my opinion by the way. Hope it helps! :-)
Thank you for this Rob. Great tips! I’ve really started to post videos this year, but I tend to make my videos really short as it makes me less nervous. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always super nervous and have to do so many retakes, but I’m not comfortable making longer videos yet. 😫🤦🏽♀️

Thanks for sharing! Best of luck to you going forward :-)
Great advice!! Thanks for sharing and best of luck to you!! :-)
Beautifully said. Thank you.
Since you mention lighting… a super simple / cheap solution is a reflector to fill in the shadows. You can buy a specific photo reflector, but a car window shade or even poster board works great. I prefer white, but silver or gold can work if you like the effect.
Thanks again for the “just do it” video series!
Great tip... thanks for sharing! :-)
and/or a hat
I started a Photography niche TH-cam channel. I’m 50. I can say the first 1k subscribers is a slow climb. Until you get 1k subs you’re not making a penny. It’s a slow crawl but I’m not giving up.
Good for you! Good luck and keep enjoying it!! :-)
Larry
Appreciate the feedback! I just posted a video "Leaving a Legacy" where I talk about this exact thing :-) th-cam.com/video/UasidhELdrw/w-d-xo.html
I love your videos! I’m quite a bit older than 40 and 40 is young to me but age is just a number, it’s really true and I think that more people who are much older should come forward and let the world know just how active and still very involved they are. Never stop learning!
I love your attitude! Age is indeed just a number :-)
I'm just here for Peanut, the Marikitty! ;)
Ok, back to watching the video! :)
Haha she appreciates that!! Her role in this one is minor, but she still wanted to be a part of it ;-)
I have been on TH-cam for awhile, and I still have problems talking on my videos, mainly because I am shy.
Awesome! Thank you for the kind words :-) Best of luck to you going forward!! :-)
Thank you Rob. Your new series is inspiring. I'm one of those over 40 who want to start a YT channel. Getting closer to starting. :)
GO for it! And best of luck to you!! :-)
I totally agree... thanks for sharing!! :-)
100 % agree, totalmente de acuerdo
Thanks for sharing, as a baby boomer, I shall take your comments on board and give it a try! Take care and many thanks 😎
Best of luck to you!!
I'm glad you found it helpful! :-)
Ahhh I resonate with those clips at the end! Thanks for showing us it’s perfectly normal 😊
I think most people go through something very similar! Thanks for watching :-)
I forgotten more than they’ll ever know. thanks for making the video, I like it
God job
Thank you :) And you're absolutely right... older generations know more than younger generations whether the younger ones believe it or not! Knowing more includes wisdom beyond what the younger people can possibly have. Cheers :-)
Hey, Rob, sure could use an affiliate link to that Quadlock tripod mount 😉😁😆
I use Quadlock on my motorcycle and the phone mount gets in the way when I try to use the ol' clamp mounts on my tripods or sticks.
Haha no problem! Here it is: amzn.to/3yr1CNs
I use quadlock on my trail bicycle, and keep the quadlock case on my phone all the time... this tripod mount makes it super convenient :-)
Your bloopers cracked me up! So glad you included them. They are funny and they show us we certainly won't start off being perfect from day one!
Glad you like them!
Love your videos. Thanks for the bloopers. They really are encouraging!
Thank you! And thanks for watching :-)
Loved this video! I never gravitated to watching those fast paced heavily edited videos .. i totally agree with you.
It's definitely time for less editing and more authenticity! Cheers :-)
20:50 literally me for 4 hours today trying to film :D
HAHA! I spend more time doing that than my videos end up being!! But I'm having fun with it so it's all good :-)
Great video!!
And also…now I really really wanna go boating 😂
Haha me too!!
Hey, I grew up at the Hd of the Bay so thanks for showing me some of my favourite islands of my sailing youth! And really great content, I shall put it into practice!
Wow small world!! I'm glad you like the videos :-) Best of luck!!
Gen-Xer here 😊thanks for the advice
No problem 👍
Your awesome brother!!
Thank you for watching :-)
Thank you, Rob, for the useful info!
No problem, glad you enjoyed it :-)
Thank you for sharing this very helpful info. I have been thinking very seriously about creating a TH-cam channel.
Best of luck to you if you decide to do it!!
I subscribed when your over 40 MUST start a YT channel showed up in my feed. I've watched the last few, and I like your angle. It's good. Maybe I will get up the nerve to get in front of the camera again.
I hope you do! Best of luck to you :-)
Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.
My pleasure :-)
THANKS!
You're welcome!
Love your videos!
Now is the time to be creative by recording video for future generations.
Absolutely! :-)
Sounds and everything was perfect and you looked perfect beautiful blue sky get some sunscreen really good job
I might've got a little too much sun on my head that day! Haha!
So encouraging. tfp
lol, this is all to familiar when i go on camera. I mean the bloopers at the end. I noticed something that has kinda helped me on my other channel is just do it don't overthink it then cut the umm and ahhhs and dead spaces after lol
That’s a great strategy! Good luck :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer Good Luck To You As Well!
Nice that you put those small notes in the video while you're talking...
@@RobtheMaritimer Wow, thanks for all the good advice!! I'll get brainstorming right away; maybe write some ideas down on paper.
Also, the people over 40 have the $ to buy your products. These videos are great Rob, and I love that you are on the water. It is so relaxing.
Thank you for the kind words :-)
But to start we don't need all that - as he has said, just a phone, maybe a lavalier mic, and probably an editor like Capcut, and that's it!
Great video! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Great video......the lighting might not be the best, but - awesome background and colours!
I suppose I could've put a light on me as well to help remove the shadows... but knowing my luck it would've fallen overboard!! AND one of the points I was trying to make is that being perfect doesn't matter haha! Thanks for the feedback :-)
I appreciate you.
Thank you :)
Great tips and real talk which is appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
It could be… but I bet practice will go along way towards you getting better at it. Best of luck with it! :-)
Great video with a lot of good points, Rob. Thanks for the encouragement and some practical advice.
Thanks Ted!
What a beautoful place to work 😊
Yes it is... not so much in the winter though! lol
@@RobtheMaritimer oh yes I hear you I live near the sea which I love, it's beautiful in the summer, freezing in the winter. The North sea where I live can be wild at times which is memerising to watch 😊
Wow great video! But how did you make your video not choppy at all on the boat? Impressive! 👍
Ha! I love these tips, and I'll definitely use them! Also, thank you so much for responding! Over 40 crew in the house!! 😃
Loving that you've embraced the 'off the cuff' style :)
It's liberating! Give it a try! :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer Guess the story wasn't so quick. I type 100+ WPM. Sorry.... :)

Let's not let fear win! :-)
Great topic! Thanks for your great enthusiasm and interesting talk!
Yes, saw Peanut. I love peanut! Nice location!
All this attention may go to her head! LOL
The quality of your mic is impressive for outdoors.
Could you share your outdoor mic secret please. 😊 Thank you
Great video Rob! Thanks for the encouragement!
Thank you! I hope it helps people :-)
Wait, you said Quadlock? Why you need Quadlock? I seriously can NOT live w/o it…, I mean my job…
Yo, Another Great Episode👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉
I use Quadlock on my bike… since the quadlock case is always on my phone that’s why I got the Quadlock tripod adapter :)
Ok you inspired me to do my first Live just now. 😁😁
You really have to enjoy it to do it long term. If you don't then you'll be susceptible to burn out like a lot of others. But if you enjoy it and don't put too much pressure on yourself then it's something you can do long term and the success will follow. Best of luck to you :-)
Hi Rob, wondering what you use for screen recording tutorials?
I use Camtasia to edit all my videos and it has a built-in screen recorder. Having said that. I only use it when making dedicated tutorial videos for clients. When I make my own that has my face in them I use OBS to capture my screen. I hope that helps :-)
Rob thank you! Looking forward to your journey on TH-cam.
I'll be documenting it as much as I can! :-)
Great video Rob!
Thank you!
Best of luck to you :-)
Exactly the same question here and I’m Swedish too.
thanks for sharing

Thank you Rob. Which make and model lapel mic were you using for this recording please?
I'm not sure why that would be happening... never ran into that before. Are you sure there's nothing in your timeline during that time?
@@RobtheMaritimer I got a shout out to Pi, who responded with this:
To prevent Camtasia from adding the video title as a watermark to your exported video, you'll need to modify the settings before producing the video. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Open your project in Camtasia.
Click on the "Share / Export" menu at the top and select "Local File."
In the "Local File" window, select the "MP4" option under the "Format" dropdown menu.
Under "Video Settings," click on the "Options" button.
In the "Options" window, uncheck the box that says "Include video title as watermark."
Click "OK" to close the "Options" window and then click "Next" in the "Local File" window.
Choose a location to save your file and click "Finish."
Now, when you export your video, it should no longer have the watermark with the video title.
I did the above & my watermarked title disappeared.

Too be honest, I think the lightning is fine. You're on the water, so maybe my older age gets it...😊
Haha thank you :-)

So true!
How to come up with a g9od channel name ??? Something catchy????
I love the name you've got, too!
I am So camera shy its rediculous!
Most people are! And many people don’t realize it until they actually sit in front of a camera, press record, and then try to talk naturally… it’s a real eye opener for lots of people! But with practice I think anyone can get used to it… you just have to force yourself to do it :-)
Same! Camera, audio, real life… 😬
