    You make several good points. “Making TH-cam videos is something you can do by yourself.” That is true. That’s why I haven’t given up. I don’t need anyone else to help me. I create TH-cam videos and upload them at any pace I feel comfortable with. There is no “right way” to do things. Everyone does things differently to become successful. Thank you, Rob.

    55 year old TOTAL introvert here! I just started my 1st channel about 8 days ago! Great video! I loved the blooper real and kept thinking about tht Chris Farley sketch on SNL where he hosted the Chris Farley show. He was so nervous and when he thought he screwed up, it would hit his head and call himself an idiot. It made me laugh so much and I can totally relate as that is what I want to do when I am trying to make a video. 🙂

      It sure is!!! It took me over a year before I finally posted my first video. I wish I had started sooner. My advice to people who want to start but are nervous, is to just realize that LOTS of people feel exactly the same way... it's normal. Also, understand that you are your own worst critic... others will not be nearly as critical of your video as you will... and finally, learn to just laugh at yourself, and remind yourself that it doesn't matter what other people think... and just do it for yourself. If you DO decide to go ahead with it, I wish you the best of luck and most of all, have fun with it :-)

    Love those outtakes, er, bloopers. I've done hundreds of them too... I always fumble thru the beginning; it's my weakest area. How hard can it be to say Hi, and then introduce yourself? I guess it's harder talking to a camera. I'll do a bunch of takes, then play them back. That has helped a lot. Got get over looking at yourself and hearing your voice.

    It’s fascinating to watch the bloopers so you can clearly see the mechanism of sabotage at play. As you are saying the line - your censor or inner quality assurance inspector is taking up the mental ram and stealing it from the spontaneous, creative, fun Rob - to the point where fun Rob gives up on the sentence because the censor Rob takes over the mind. This is exactly what happens to me. I guess the trick is - and it’s easier said than done - is to give no mental ram or room to censor Rob whatsoever at time of the recording. He will get to have his say in the editing room. Love that you post these. And I will think twice about beating myself up for taking an hour to record a 10 min video. Because it seems like the gold is in the gaffes. In the age of perfectly polished AI scripts and edits - those of us who haven’t turned into robots - will continue to look for the real. Real like Rob the Maritimer. ❤️☀️

    I'm definitely an introvert. I'm 68 and started my channel that helps seniors stay safe online 10 months ago. I started it with the help of a friend, hoping she would in front of the camera for all the videos. But that didn't work and I had to be in front of the camera. Personally, I like using a teleprompter. My videos are fully scripted, often with some greenscreen work. That helps a lot. I now have found I can take a video from initial concept to published in less than a day.

    Good job, Rob! Very informative video. I am a 75 year old introvert and I worked in TV. I was an anchor on one of the first 12noon news programs. That experience made me an extreme introvert. You see, there were billboards with my picture on them around town. But, I didn't think of myself as a 'public' person. One day, I was at the laundromat, chastising my 5 year old son, and a woman came suddenly up to me smiling! I instantly stopped and smiled, quizically. "I love the show, it is my new favorite show!" she gushed, continuing to talk excitedly. Well, of course, I went into 'mode' thanking her for watching, gushing back at her, etc. I realized at that moment, that I was not safe outside of my house. I was exposed and vulnerable, just by walking out my door. Since then, my friends know not to drop in on me, (I lived close to the Farmer's Market). I've been married three times and they have been a strain on me. People expect you to talk...and listen and often I didn't feel like doing either. Anyway, I'm living happily divorced ever after. Living my best life in Panama, where I live in a Panamanian community. I've been doing digital marketing since 2017. I'm launching a TH-cam Channel in a few days and have been intrigued by all the videos about why people over 40 should start YT channels. You were the only one with the Introvert angle. Thanks on behalf of all of us out here. I'll subscribe to see what you are up to. Good Luck!

    It’s Peanut’s world. You’re just living in it. 😂 I’m an introvert too. I’ve recorded a few videos, then got a nasty cold that made talking difficult. I hope I can recover soon and get back to recording. I had a faceless gaming channel during the pandemic and had fun with it for a while until I burnt out on the game I was covering. Thanks for another great video. Cheers, Ian.

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It sucks getting a cold when you want to record... I've been there!! Especially if your videos involve voiceovers where you aren't in the videos yourself. If you were in the videos you could just explain to your audience that you have a cold... most people would find that just fine and makes you seem more human... a good thing. So that's something you could try :) Or just wait until you're better.... take some cold meds! Best of luck :-)

I'm happy to hear that's coming across :-) Editing can be tricky... but people tend to overcomplicate it too... try to keep it simple and keeps "edits" to a minimum. All you REALLY have to do is maybe delete some from the beginning of your video (when you press record) and some at the end (when you press stop)... but even that's not totally necessary. No other edits in the middle are really required... unless you WANT to. Good luck with it and have fun!! :-)

    I never considered myself an introvert, but I think I may very well be. I say that because I have almost always done things by myself most of my life.
    I figured I wasn't an introvert because I don't have problems doing things with people, and crowds don't bother me. I think my background has made me an introvert. I was abused physically, mentally, and sexually growing up, and I think that made it hard for me to connect with others, so I don't really have any close friends, mostly acquaintances. I graduated from film school over 20 years ago and have produced probably hundreds of videos for clients over the years, but never put myself on camera out of that self consciousness and fear of exposing myself to the masses. Only recently after discovering your videos have I actually been inspired to create my own channel to put out videos that I am interested in vs those of my clients. I REALLY appreciate your content. I started my current channel just to test the waters, as a place to learn about the basics before launching a channel that I will consider worth using for the rest of my life. I just turned 68 and do not want to use my face, and only occasionally my voice, on my channel. I have a face "made for radio," as they used to say, and not a real strong voice for speaking. I think I can do a pretty good job using quality AI voices for the scripts I write, and will do some things in my own voice from time to time just to keep it real. Some great points. Despite spending years in jobs requiring me to speak in public, I didn’t want to put myself fully ‘out there’ on TH-cam so when I started my channel a month or so ago, I found a way of doing it without showing my face. Despite only having had my hands ‘on display’, after just a month, I am already thinking that going on camera fully wouldn’t really be a big deal. Confidence builds quickly (although I’ve always said that my confidence far exceeds my abilities! 😂)

    Thanks for the advice, this helps me to get my channel going now as a techy there are a lot of negative doomers which hopefuly I do not get those. I'm 41 now and look at life a bit differently so the over 40 video helped as well to get in there and just do it. I love talking about technology but I feel I need to talk to other people other than my wife .. haha or when I am looking for clients. I actually skipped speech in highschool and now ironically I love talking but not really in public but this platform works great for that. Thank you!

      @@RobtheMaritimer happy Tuesday! I’ve been sending as many friends and subscribers to your channel because I think they should hear you explain why they should start a channel. Do you have a short video that explains that they don’t have to make it public & it’s perfectly to okay to make it private until they want to share.

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheBayAreaBackyardsBee Thanks! I can't think of a dedicated video that talks about that, but I believe I have mentioned it. Basically, each video you upload you can set its permissions to private, unlisted or public. Public means it's searchable and anyone can find and watch it, unlisted means no one will EVER find it unless You share a direct link to it (copy the link and send it to them), and private means the channel owner is the only one that can view it. SO yes, you can upload videos as private... and then at some point in the future they can change it to unlisted or public if they want... and can even make it private again if they want. I gope that helps 🙂

    Hi Rob I liked everything you said, it can be a very wonderful way of connecting, but if we do it to receive likes etc then don't we run the risk of experiencing the down side of sharing? Like no views, no likes, no subs?
    I would caution against the less strong of heart from beginning a channel if they are not sure of themselves to begin with, because it could add to an already negative mind state. Just saying, just sharing, that's my comment to help grow your channel. Cheers Rob your awesome! Thank you :)

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your comment, and yes it's true that growth of new channels tends to be quite slow in the beginning and so you have to almost expect that. It takes time to build up that momentum... and that's why a lot of people start youtube and then quite after a period of time because the growth didn't happen as quickly as they were hoping. But I'm here to tell you that those who stick it out and enjoy the process of making and uploading videos are eventually rewarded with growth.... and when it starts to happen, it is not linear (unless you stop uploading then that will kill momentum)... growth tends to be parabolic if you keep uploading consistently. But you are right, you have to accept slow to no growth early on and hopefully that doesn't discourage people from sticking with it. Thanks for commenting :-)

    Good Ideas. Nevertheless I have a hard time of starting a youtube channel. I do very much like to start off a channel and share the content. But i see two major drawbacks. First one i am an introvert, second one i am not a native speaker in english,i have a good comprehension but when it comes to speaking i am thinking in my own native language ,not in English ,so when i try to speak in English ,words doesn't flow naturally. There are long pauses and words not come up easily as you talk.
    What are your suggestions in this regard? Thanks much in advance.

    I think you've confused introvert with someone who is shy or has low self-esteem about their personality or socializing skills. An introvert can be perfectly with fine talking and socializing, but instead of getting energized by being around other people, we tend to get drained of energy and need alone time to recharge.

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are definitely a lot of similarities between people who are introverts and people who are shy. I think of low self-esteem is another issue.... perhaps that's something I should address in another video?

    • @tiptapkey
      @tiptapkey 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RobtheMaritimer There can be similarities, for sure. But you talk several times about getting confidence up and all that. Introverts can be really confident, though. Folks like Meryl Streep and Billie Eilish are introverts.
      There are some people who are shy and have trouble putting themselves out there, but they are actually extroverts who DEEPLY wish they could be the popular person at the center of attention. This video and making youtube vids might actually be really helpful for that type of person. It could help them be themselves and begin working their confidence up in a way that allows them to connect with a lot of people in a safe environment.
      But I hope I don't come across as too argumentative. This video is really interesting, and I'm sure it will help a lot of people!

I am quite new to YT and have so much to learn, I came across this video, just after uploading my video on being Introverted as a new dating coach. You inspire me to continue, although I have no engagement from any viewers. Have to be honest, finding it really difficult without this! Today's upload: th-cam.com/video/EkXE2W4Jwio/w-d-xo.html

      I'm glad you liked it :-) Keep up with the posting and consistency... remember that youtube needs time to figure out who your audience is and each new upload you make will help in this regard. Eventually youtube will get it (as long as you're consistent and try to make it easy on youtube with proper titles, descriptions, etc) and your channel will begin to grow. Once it starts, growth isn't linear... it tends to "pick up pace". Best of luck to you!
