This is kind of an art style that will never get 'outdated'. Those types of productions (like TF2) pretty much never die, and stay 'fresh' forever. A good sign for this title.
I like the potential for powerups. A can of spinach to get powerful knockback/knockup punches, a bottle of hot sauce to get a continuous stream of flame from your mouth, a can of paint to paint functional doors on walls.
I'm really looking forward to this game, but there's one thing: the environments should have some kind of cel-shading, it would make everything come together way better.
I wish they copied those Fleischer cartoon 3D backgrounds from the 1930s, it meshed better with the 2D art. I think Cuphead utilized something similar for the 3D backgrounds.
The way 2D and 3D are combined, the rubbery feel of the weapons when you reload, THIS SOUNDTRACK! This is absolutely perfect! I dont even like fps games but I'm buying this one on release date, mark my words

My thing is, the artstyle is the only unique thing. Other than that it was super basic enemies and normal guns, the flower bomb was the only 'unique' item. Like it's cool looking but I feel like after 5 minutes you realize you're playing a budget shooter with a fancy paintjob. I think they need to push the cartoon aesthetic in more creative ways, paint tunnels on walls, summon anvils or pianos from the sky, do something besides shooting identical mousemen with a floppy shotgun for a few hours.
I can’t get over looking at all the scenery and how none of it really compliments the FPS art. Almost as if I’m just playing a regular game with a skin / mod that changes the color tone.

No! It would conflict with the characters that way. Besides these cartoons would always paint the backgrounds while the foreground objects that were to move and characters were drawn. This is definitely what the game was going for
I would have to disagree. I think level design work well for the game, I think it give that golden age feel where the background would usually be painted.
I know you mean well, but a lot of older cartoons (even cartoons up to the 80s-90s) had no "cel-shaded" backgrounds because they were usually hand painted static images with lots of detail. Like hotcoldman mentioned, only characters, moving objects, and items the characters would interact with would get that "cel-shaded" look (that bold, thick outlines simple colors look). It's why in cartoons like Scooby-Doo or animes like Dragonball we know which object was about to move as they were animated on a separate plane from the painted background.

In the old black and white cartoons the backgrounds were hand painted, which marked a clear difference between the environment and the animated character, even sometimes the backgrounds seemed to have a 3D perspective in watercolor without thick lines and blurred shading while the character and other animated objects were always 2D cartoon with thick lines and without shading, very similar to this one video game.
The rubber feeling that the guns have is probably the greatest thing. It’s just so floppy and rubbery and I love it. I can’t tell you how excited I am and have been for this game. Im glad that they are giving us peaks into the game instead of leaving us dry
1:15 I really like this ancient temple level; looks like something straight out of Indiana Jones. And keep in mind, the events of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" took place in *1936;* the same era where black and white rubberhose cartoons existed.

I found this game incredible, very beautiful and I would love to play it! However, unfortunately, the muzzle flash is very bright and big, knowing me, I would have a headache if I played for more than 30 minutes! Is it possible to configure the muzzle flash in the game settings?
I think the screen flash is supposed to be a damage indicator, as the health meter goes down after each flash. Hopefully there's an option where you can tone down the flash at least.
This game has something that I love about animations from the 30s. The fact that everything is so fluid, even the music is fluid. This game is going to be really good.

@terry.1428 you'd still have to make him physically diffrent from the popeye we know. That's why Pinocchio always has a unique design in most films and I'm not sure if popeye has other complicated stuff that makes him super protective like Micky mouse

I love that the style of animation is still being used 100 years later. But now its in a video game. Imagine trying to explain video games to someone in 1930/1940. Times have certainly changed.
