my favorite part is 1:08-1:10. that fill with the ascending toms to the snare hit gets me every time
I know what you mean
Everything on this drumset looks so confortable to use, think I need to look my positioning again. Never get tired of this video
PORTNOY ALWAYS BETTER ON PLAYING SKILL AND STABILITY ON TEMPO , AWESOME,
Is this THE most "technical" drum(mer)(ming)? Who cares? Post your video reproduction of this but remember, Mike Portnoy possessed the creative prowess to write it. Fin.
THANK YOU. That's exactly what I've been trying to tell all the ignorant mp haters.
+1
I rate him more for his musicality and sound, over how technical he supposedly is.
He's nowhere near some of the elite technicians of the drumming world, but his playing has personality and soul, so yeah, who cares? :)
He’s the fkn king…. The musicality he is showing is so taseful.. 10/10…👍😊
When One Last Time ends at the end of the song and without the drum track it sounds like you ended a match on Wii Sports.
Outstanding. One of the very best drummers.
Easily my favorite drum sound I've ever heard on an album
Mine too it's just too perfect
I love that he plays the ride cymbal bell with both hands alternating when he needs to, I thought I was the only one, I've never seen anyone else do that, at least not with just one ride. Awesome!
This is the best part: 0:00 - 6:10
you said best part, but actually it is best song.
fuck you.
+Rinaldo Jonathan Joke went wayyyy over your head, you dunce fuck
I wish I could write such a creative and original comment... Never read that hilarious joke before.
correction 0:00-6:11
@@RinaldoJonathan whoooshhhh
the la villa stranggoto of the 90's! i love the song and drums in this!
Damn he’s good, they should have hired him as the new drummer of Dream Theater
This was the first song I learned when I first started playing the drums. It was so easy that I never played it again
the hardest song of dream theater. (to perfom, to cover, etc). I MISS PORTNOY the great drummer of DT ever and forever ......
Deden Noy should send him a real garbage set. This is true dedication and perseverance, combined with talent.
Come on Deden, you can do it mate!!
And here we are in October of 2023 and our lord and savior Mike Portnoy is back with Dream Theater.
Simply brilliant, there's no other similar sense
So, you are saying that double bass drumming at 180+ bpm is more difficult than accenting double bass like mike portnoy? tell me more about your death metal impossible drumming. I know Portnoy is not the best double bass drummer but he is pretty good
DT2BLZ the best is joey jordison😂😂
@@omegabat2341 no, Dave Lombardo
A young kid from Germany has the best bass drum technique in the present. His name is Wanja Groger
@@BurrenSHdrums Ah, someone other than me who knows of Wanja!
@@JK-zo4px Simon plays music, he doesn't just run single stroke RLRL stuff on the double pedals. His stuff slow is much harder than the fast guys going fast. yeah, he's better by a whole lot, but don't expect most people to know that
Amazing....my body just wont let me play some of that stuff...so I have mucho respect for Mike being able to flick between these different times with apparent ease!
the beat looks so complicated at 3:43 - 4:14, my brain stopped working for a while.
+Nabil Hatta It's actually not too bad as long as you're good with ghost notes and accent triplets. The hard part is the sticking and speed. You have to copy his sticking almost exactly because otherwise you won't go fast enough.
The whole section is in 4/4. That should give you leverage so you could slow it down and get the sticking, ghost notes, and speed right. I broke this part down and practiced it on a pad, behind the set, and in my head every single day. Basically the same thing with the whole song. I can play it now.
It ain't that bad
They all write together at the same time. They hold long jam sessions, pick and choose what they want to play, and create it together. It's not one before the other.
DT's best song (i think). No labrie, all their crazy songwriting techniques, shredding galore from everyone, and the only bass solo I actually like. actually legendary.
MP has always been so musical and effortless = killer comfort zone.
How the fuck does he remember all That??? Holy fuck! amazing band. The start of this is creepy lol
This is how the master plays accuracy, power, and soul😎
Amazing😍🤘
3:01 when he's doing the air bass solo hahaha i forgot about that havn't seen this forever
I could watch this man drum all day , everyday
Sounds like when you're fighting the final boss.
When i was 12, In Through The Out Door was released and i learned the entire album in 1 day except Fool In The Rain. That song took me a while to figure out what Bonzo was doing. No youtube vids to help, just my ears and 3 yrs of drumming experience. I’m 57 now. I still play, just not as much due to health but i think it would take me a good 6 months to learn this song lol
still not as hard as seven nation army
* Perfect :)
coco nuts yes yes he is
Not as hard as Back In Black
Akun Demit I’m STILL trying to nail that one
@PIE40 r/whoosh
I'm just starting out on drums, and this is very good for a beginner. Now I can move on to play the harder stuff like we will rock you
Abandon 4/4 all ye who enter here.
so amazed every time i watch this...
I guess you could say that...
His feet and hands were in Constant Motion XD
I remember when I was young of watching this and being amazed. I keep the same.
2:26 is favorite part, btw sounds like circus music :D
Ragtime. Not circus music lmfao
It's ragtime, but it's does sound like circus music. At least the beginning of it.
Awesome drumming in my opinion the best drummer in this whole world...
