The reason that there is an old looking Yodalarm on the up side barrier pillar is because between late 2017 and early 2018 the barrier machinery and pillar were replaced, I'm guessing it had something to do with it drooping/malfunctioning. If you look at old videos you can see the old pillar had a Kingsfernsden plaque on it and the colour of the pillar is lighter. If you look on Google street view at the Network Rail depot at Southampton Central you can see a barrier pillar and machinery box with an alarm and string attached which is identical to the new one at Kingsfernsden. The original pillar had no light mount or alarm on it as the crossing has a unique setup because of the junction. The new pillar was probably removed from somewhere else after an upgrade and had the light mounted to the pillar with an alarm on it instead of a pole. I'm almost certain that the old alarm was never wired into Kingsfernsden because there would be no wiring on that side of the crossing for an alarm and there would be no point connecting it.

Thanks for the information. I certainly noticed a change to that barrier assembly when I went once in March 2018, compared to previous visits. I hadn't seen the bracket or alarm before.

      Thanks a lot! 👌
I do agree - the set-up of all the level crossing equipment, especially on the side with the three lights and working yodalarm is very neat. This makes it a really nice crossing, especially when you consider that this is one of only a few level crossings to have two different types of alarm 😎

Great video! Still wonder why the two different alarms were installed on this side?

      Thanks! 😁
This and a couple of other nearby AHB crossings have their alarms set up like this because of the lack of footway on the other side of the road. This is the case for a lot of crossings like this.
