The Sand Hill enthusiasts might be niche, but we are very tight knit! Jokes aside; It's such a a bizarre, one-off area that has no elaboration.. Some sinkhole into a cave leads to a desert valley, filled with ancient structures that rises from the sands. And then you reached the end for Tails to have his vision of the past.
It is strange, they probably made the area only because they saw people sandboarding in Atakama, that's why it's a sand area next to a big jungle. They also probably took too many pictures ans said Hey, let's hue changes them, then saturated and applied a yellow overlay. My favourite thing is, in the final game, completing Lost World 255 as Sonic makes you go to the Past when you go use the Sand Hill entrance. It happens because of an overflow which corrupts the pointer that tells the Player which area to go to and yes, it makes no sense, if Knuckles could use the same entrance, he had to complete Casinopolis 255 times before entering (but it's blocked off)
Quite interesting that the snakes were fixed but the iron balls weren't. 😂 Who knows, maybe if we look deeper, we can find more unused Objects which can be restored in the Autodemo.
The lack of lighting is very Sonic Shuffle-esque. I think it honestly works well with the Dreamcast aesthetic, I wouldn't mind seeing someone make a Shufflisation mod for this game.
It's really sad that the level had this many details like the Maya temple, the moai and the snakes jumping around. That looked pretty cool, and it would have been a more memorable level to be honest
That one Sand Hill enthusiast must be really happy right now
Its me.
And yes, I am.

I can only liken your work with the autodemo to archaeology. It's like this has all been a puzzle and we're watching you solve it in real time.
I guess the true sonic forces were the sonic adventures we made along the way
That indev version of Sand Hill looks way cooler than the Sand Hill we got.
Makes me wonder at what stage of development was that file from? I swear the Sonic games seem to always have this problem, is it like poor archiving?
Definitely

Y'now this really does just look like Sonic Shuffle
I really appreciate the hard work you're doing to preserve all this!
Thank you for another great video, Speeps. I needed this after a rough day.
Now we need desert bus
I cannot imagine how much my child brain would have exploded seeing the snakes jumping around. Is there any way for you to restore theor movement?
But they do jump around?
They did jump around in the final
What are you on about?
there is a build with the restored movement available to the public
it's the retail build

The...snakes *do* jump around in the final version...
@@Essu_ I had to double check
Everything mention expect the maya temple seems to be there, I guess I always took the boring route LOL
There were a lot of Gorons in Sand Hill, huh.
*insert sonic forces joke here*
this is so dang interesting, great as always speeps
SPEEPSHIGHWAY , if you ever do speedhighway would there also be those cool beta camera angles in it too?
Speed Highway loads correctly so I did it 8 years ago:

So that phrase from Sonic Forces is a reference to that area?
Doubt it, the Japanese version even changed it to Sand Hell.
green hills lookin like sand hill now
This is real sand hill
Hell yeah!
Feels wierd without lighting
Will you do other character’s versions of maps?
hey. could you maybe do a japanese dub of Sonic Adventure in a chronological movie style?
Hey speeps, have you considered doing voice overs for your content?
they said they wouldnt. YEARS ago in fact.
