Girls: Arethusa, Euphemia, Experience, Mehitable, Relief, Thankful
    Boys: Waitstill, Hopestill

for the dilemma - what about Juniper with Juno for short, and Jo as an even shorter version of that!? Doesn't start with the letters j and o - but includes both in the nickname and might be cute :) Jove is also a cute name / another nickname for Juniper that could be shortened again to Jo.
Or you could just go with the initials? J for the first name and an O name in the middle

We had liked "Amara" before with its tie to love and her dad likes to say "its like mommys name (Samantha) with a little bit of love in it" Plus his name starts with "Ra" so its the beginning of mine and his put together which I think is a bonus too

SJ I love your channel and the podcast! For the dilemma; I knew the most beautiful little girl in France named, Jophielle. I loved it! She was called phi (fee) or Jophie for short but I think there are a ton of nickname options there. It has those Josephine vibes but is just a little extra special. I love the history too, it’s the feminine form of Jophiel who was the archangel of Paradise and the patron of artists and illumination. Also associated with the protection of the planet. :) I really love it! 💕

Lots of people in the comments are suggesting Jocelyn for the dilemma. I'm a 29 year old Jocelyn and all I can say is I've been called everything under the sun, but not Jo.
Jocelyn is a massively nicknameable name and I go by Joc (pronounced Jos) and Jocy (pronounced Jossy). People get my name wrong quite often and I've been mistaken as Joyce, Joycelyn and Geraldine, to name a few. But I have never been called Jo and no one has ever even accidentally called me Jo.
I have another friend also called Jocelyn and she is also a Jos, but never been called Jo.
So obviously I'm biased, but I'm going to have to disagree with everyone suggesting that Jocelyn can easily be shortened to Jo - it's not even the same sound 😂

Thank you so much for this comment! The #1 girl name on my list has been Josephine for years! I love that it has so many potential nicknames like Josie, Jovi, Joss, and my personal favorite, Posy. I would be thrilled if people called her any of these! Or if she ended up not liking nicknames at all, and just wanted to be “Josephine” that would be great too!
But something in the back of my mind always says, “But what if people call her just Jo?” which I don’t like at all.
So your comment has really helped me, especially since you know another Jocelyn, who hasn’t had that happen to her either! 💖

First of all I absolutely love these names! My criteria for girl names has always been strong and powerful. Something that I find really cool however, is that I’m from Canada so the accents are very different! And sometimes I’ll absolutely looove one of these names with SJ’s accent but then when I say it out loud it’s completely different and maybe not my favourite anymore, just really cool how accents can change the whole feel of a name!🥰

      - Jovanna was on my list for years! I liked it better than the Giovanna spelling, because I was afraid Giovanna would be mispronounced as gee-o-van-na here in the US. The planned nickname was going to be Jovie, which is the name of Zooey Deschanel’s character in “Elf,” which is my favorite movie of all time.

Love goddess names! My dog is called Deimos (actually a male god) but they were the god of dread. Child of Ares and Aphrodite.
Disney’s pain and panic were based off Deimos and his brother Phobos.
Mars’ moons are also Deimos and Phobos.
Love the space and Disney links 😊

A lot of suggestions for Journey, which is a favorite of mine. I think that would work perfect to honor the name 'Joe' and the actual journey to bring the child to your family :)

I was really considering Freyja Eleanor Marie for a girl at one point-naming her after strong, inspirational women. Freyja obviously as Goddess of Fertility, Eleanor after Eleanor of Aquataine(also my husband has wrote a novel and his heroine is called Eleanor-she's a very strong character) and Marie after Marie Curie. But with Freya being so common, we've scrapped it!

One of my favourite names is
    Seraphina/Serafina).
Feminine form of the Late Latin name Seraphinus, derived from the biblical word seraphim which was Hebrew in origin and meant "fiery ones". The seraphim were an order of angels, described by Isaiah in the Bible as having six wings each.
    means ardent/fiery

There’s a very cool character in He-Man called Teela, who is a brave, fiery redhead! I think that kind of fits. I also love Lorelai, it’s a great mixture of soft but tough. Apolline is the feminine version of Apollo, here in France, so that could be an alternative goddess name, perhaps. For the girls’ name with Jo, Joelle is sweet, then there’s Jordana, Jocelyn, Joy...

Jovanna was on my list for years! I liked it better than the Giovanna spelling, because I was afraid Giovanna would be mispronounced as gee-o-van-na here in the US. The planned nickname was going to be Jovie, which is the name of Zooey Deschanel’s character in “Elf,” which is my favorite movie of all time.
It isn’t on my list anymore, because I’ve fallen in love with Josephine! But I still recommend Jovanna, for anyone looking for an alternative to Josephine!

The reason Nealina is popular in Scotland is because the Scots have a great tradition of feminizing boys' names by adding the -ina suffix on the end (e.g. Williamina), sadly this generations long habit has somewhat died off in the last 70 years or so. You're likely to find a 59 year old woman who answers to Williamina who has a granddaughter called Myla in Edinburgh than you are in Leeds
