Part of owning land is learning how to service the machines you use to maintain it. It saves you money, but more importantly saves you time in transporting equipment and keeps your equipment where it's needed -- on the farm ready to work!! If you missed it, here's a link to the day our excavator "Precious" arrived at Piney Grove: th-cam.com/video/TDKsnQO9yxY/w-d-xo.html

Suction filter is at the bottom of the hydraulic tank. You’ll see once you drain the tank. You should also change the pilot control filter while your at it.

So, another channel did the final drive and rotated the drive so the other plug on the perimeter was down and being used as the drain hole. Then the other perimeter plug was the fill hole and the final one (more in the center) was the full indicator hole. IDK anything about this, but that dude didn't have any problem filling the drive, plus, you'd think they have 3 plugs for a reason. I'm a mechanical idiot so just a thought.

The 3rd hole on final drive which you didn’t take out , is to fill with oil , no plate to fight with at that hole , the oil then comes out the middle hole with plate , when up to level 😊👍

Good tip. The manual didn't show it that way but it was hard to fill the way I did it!

I'd encourage you to get a torque wrench. You will not regret it, and you will need it now that you have that mini-x. I got one when I got my U17 for under 50 bucks. Use it to remove and tighten those drive-line hex bits. And yes, 90 degrees stop turn 4 times. You were correct. Thanks for the info. Came here for the hydro filter :)

A well-maintained machine will serve you well over the years.
My excavator is an old KX61-2 from 2002, I bought it used in 2014 and the first thing I did was change all the fluids and filters.
The previous owner didn't seem to be really interested in maintenance given the color of the oils and the obvious lack of grease.
But despite its 20 years, its engine purrs like a kitten and despite the Siberian cold of Quebec, it starts right away.

On my KX 033-4 I had to get a 24 inch breaker bar and sprayed the bolt. I also opened the top two plugs, fill from the top edge hole and wait for it to fill up watching the middle hole.

    • @PineyGroveHomestead

When I changed my gear lube for final drive I did it the same way I did it on my boat motor lower unit.
Pull both plugs drain unit , insert a clear lube on end of bottle of oil cut tip small , (NOTE: buy about 12 to 18” clear tube that fits the hole of bottom plug)and insert in lower unit and squeeze until it comes out top hole then quickly inset bottom plug , you will loose a little bit of oil when inserting

I know this is over a year old but the reason you had so much problems adding oil you were adding it in the wrong place. The top left plug is for fill and the top right is for you the check when it’s full.
