This the best video explaining how to do this. Thank you my 2010 Honda seems to have screws in different places and I couldn't get the rack and pinion off. But I improvised a lot and I have watched this video at least 20 times to try and get the cover replaced. So far I have actually managed that but I haven't got that pesky pin back properly in the bottom part. After a few hours I had to give up - it was just too hot. I will try again tomorrow. I am so close. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything so thoroughly. I learnt so much.
May God bless this man and his family. Holy crap man. You saved my life. I have know idea how you remained so calm through this video. I found myself wanting to rip every piece of plastic off of that stupid cover. Not to mention the joy of putting it back together. Seriously though, thank you man! You’re awesome!
My arm rest on my ‘08 civic has been broken for almost all the 6 years that I’ve owned it. I decided that today was gonna be the day that I would give a determined effort to fix it. And then I stumbled across this video… Holy cow, let me be the first to say that this man made it possible. After years of ownership my arm rest is finally back where it’s supposed to be. Thank you to this guy and the incredible parents who raised him. If we had two of him the world would be too boring for there would be too few problems to solve.
You are great and every part of this is spot-on. Thank you! '08 Civic Coupe, the center console armrest was trash: 2 hours and a $20 ebay part and now it's beautiful and brand new!
Big help! Just finished adding a reupholstered console cover and am about to reinstall it in my wife's 2010 Civic. much more engineering involved than anyone would have guessed for a humble console cover.
You are a GOD among men! Thank you for this awesome video!!! I was able to replace my cover in 20 minutes, because of you and this video. Keep doing vids, you’re a natural 👍🏾.
Dripping with sweat but happy as can be, as I followed your instructions and have a nice brand new center console lid. I am 6'3" and weigh 250lbs......being in the back seat of my car for part of this lets me know why my two oldest grandkids would complain about the lack of space. My 2 door Honda Civic is built like a freaking tank...............albeit a very compact one.
Mark Y haha that’s impressive man! Glad you got it fixed and pushed through the heat, I know exactly what you mean. I’m living in South Carolina where the humidity never ends!! That combined with working away in the back of compact coupe 🔥
You are the man! This video was perfect! I needed to replace the mechanism under the arm rest, so I didn’t go as far as you, (and had to use the gear from the old one, so had a couple extra screws to remove), but this got me right where I needed to be!
Great Video Indeed. Keep in mind, that the rack and pinion mechanism is different on a 2008 Honda Civic EX-L Sedan. You need to uninstall the plastic vinyl attached to the sliding mechanism. There are three more screws that need to be removed above where the spring goes into place. Good Job! Mel Dee, Sunset Park, Bklyn
Thank you very much for the ste[p-by-step instruction on the replacement of the armrest. Honda makes some very good cars, however, they do not use the best leather for the interior. My next upholstery shall be cloth. `
I watched your video several times and it was correct but it sure didn’t go as easy for me as it did for you in that video! LOL feeding that piece of metal thru the console lid and the springs out the other side took forever! LOL
Good video! The 6 screws on the inside of the lid were T20 for me. Otherwise it went pretty smoothly. It was much more complicated than I thought it would be. 😆
Nice video. I've got one of these inbound from China and I'll be using this video to install it on my wife's Civic. I noticed the original cover and the new cover are slightly different in appearance (stitching and seams) but who cares? When that stuff peels away and looks bad like the lid in my wife's car, I'll replace it with Chinese stuff if it looks better. Thanks again!
Awesome video, thanks. The only thing is it's not necessary to "drive" the pin in the spring out. If you push from the point instead of the flat end it slips right out.
For those just replacing the cover, you don’t have to take the whole thing apart. Might be easier, and if you live in hot state (such as AZ) and are replacing during summer, then you might want to, and then put it back together in AC, but you can just take of that first panel, and then remove those four screws in the sliding mechanism, and have the cover off like that, without needing to take the pin out. Just an FYI. Good video though:)
I’m wondering if this is similar to the 2012 si, there are 2 screws in the back of the armrest that are impossible to get a tool into, guess I’m gonna pull the console out again.
not sure if youll see this comment but its worth a shot, anyone reading this can help too. but i bought a 2006 honda civic recently and the middle console is broken off, i have no no clue how to get it back on and its missing a latch and some screws. i cannot find anywhere online where i can just buy and replace the whole lid of the middle console arm rest thing. any clue where i can get one? i tried ebay amazon and hondas website. i just dont know where to look since im not into cars. ill be watching more of these videos to try and get a sense of how to put it back together but im not sure where to find the parts to replace it and fix it myself, and im not in a position to spend a bunch of money at a mechanic or dealership. id rather fix it myself if i can. any tips?
Hey, important question. Is your car just civic or a civic coupe? This video is based on a coupe (smaller 3 door car). A standard civic has 5 doors (4 side, one hatch door).
Hey Jeanne, not sure why it's not separating for you. Maybe the rack or pinion gear is just full of gunk and that's why it's jammed. Get a torch and shine it in on the gear connection to see if anything could be blocking the travel in any way. A Dust Off Compressed Gas can could help blow any debris off that you can't get to. It could just be that the pinion is super stiff, in that case use some silicone spray lubricant on the gear.
@@SSIcely Thank you SO much for your response Shanen!! I realized I had missed a step. When I re-watched the video a number of times I realized the step that I missed was taking out the four screws for the rack and Pinion assembly. After a long while I got the whole thing removed and put back together thank you for the greatest video! You’re the best❤️
Hey I've not done that before and I don't have this car anymore so can't help you sorry. But I literally just figured out how to do this fix for the cover through trial and error. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out, I'd suggest putting some time aside to work out how to dismantle it, it could just be as simple as a few screws. Just like anything, it'll require some perseverance! Anyway, good luck with this!
Where did you get the new cover from? All I can find is the whole top assembly from Honda for $300... And my Civic has the royal blue leather so it's hard to find the match to.. anyone have tips

Easy to follow. Gutted and rebuilt my arm rest with this video and a $15 unit from pick a part
I was lost as to how to remove the spring. Removing the back panel was the key! Thanks Bro!
That was extremely helpful and well illustrated.
Thank you!
Amazing video, HELPED ME TONS!

How do you get the under cover part back on after the spring part? I’ve tried at least 300 times but it won’t stay like yours did?

Go on aliexpress ,paid $17.00 for mine
Go to ebay
Yeah it's just the problem is I need blue. Lol
I got mine on eBay for 1999. It did come from China though I’m afraid, couldn’t find one without the whole assembly anywhere in the states.
This is the hard way of doing it, he took apart things that weren’t necessary to replace armrest
Ok, how would you do this? Feel free to suggest a better way
Where did you order the replacement console from?
Hey Julius, see the link in the description (eBay). You should be able to find multiple sellers on there for a decent price
Wish I would have watched this video before I just ripped the entire arm rest out with force.
Stupid damn spring.
Hola , donde puedo comprar esa base
