I had not played SFB for almost 20 years but kept all of it stored away since my High School and early College years and now in my 50's about 5 years ago pulled it all out and started playing it again. Then upgraded to the latest edition the Captain's Edition and found out I still loved it and played it with friends and newer generation players and they loved it. Please review the latest Edition soon awesome video
Man does this bring back memories ... we played the heck out of this game system back in the day. It was a HUGE step up from Zocchi's game where we crawled around on the floor of my parent's garage!
Volume 3 introduces two new Klingon hull types, the E5 battle escort (a single engined war destroyer) & the F6 battle frigate (a tripple engined F6 frigate). The E5 is the only Klingon true destroyer, in SFB.
Been playing this game for thirty years. I agree the best way to learn it is with the Cadet Manual (free on the ADB website) or the previous incarnation "Introduction to Star Fleet Battles" (the way I learned). You learn one or two rules at a time in a structured manner and the missions are very reminiscent of the Original Series. Just diving in, especially in the older additions where the SSDs have no charts and the books and books of addendum are overwhelming.
Always thought the art work on the old Task Force Games stuff was better than the later work done by Amarillo Design. Would be nice to see this brought to the modern age on the PC and Mac.
There were unofficial pretty basic white metal miniatures made by a UK company, to the correct scale for the map Hexes, back in the 1980's. I have a F-DD, F-BC, K-F5, K-D7 & K-T6 miniatures that I bought back in 1985 for the game.
Rob great video you have those smaller expansions are worth a lot they are from the very first edition made. I loved the video and recommend you get the latest Editon which is called the Captains edition. As that's what players use to this very day. The game is still around and has recently started being seen at board game clubs again and new players and younger generations with us older players. You can find out about the new updated edition here www.starfleetgames.com/starfleetbattles.shtml
SFB was one of my favorite games in the 79-early 80s, thank you for bringing back the memories and paying the game some respect.
your very welcome my friend!
I enjoy buying used games and then finding all the "extras" stuffed in the box. I've read a lot of GM notes with old RPG books.
me too

I remember playing the Zocchi game in the kitchen floor, had to maneuver around table legs! Still have a copy of that somewhere...

And this game shines as a one-on-one duel.

Shields up, power to max and set Phaser to fun! This is going to be a great play.

I haven't seen one of those blue maps (5:20) in ages!

The Mayday maps are from Traveller.

Federation Space was my thing back in the day. SFB just could not do massive space combat as well. Good eye Sean.

The map with the borders is from Federation & Empires. That's the strategic version of the game...
