    • @tonyf8167
      @tonyf8167 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      w/e... ST:TWoK is THE BEST battle, most of the star trek TV and movie battles show the "ships" moving around like fighter craft which causes the battles to lose a lot in terms of realism, not that many of them didnt look "good" they just didnt look REAL.

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What the Battle in the Mutara Nebula lacked was stakes. Literally, the stakes were just "stop Khan from killing Kirk" The rest of the crew mattered little, it all centered around saving Kirk. Even Khan's possession of the Genesis Device was only paid lip-service, and any related stakes thereof only existed in deleted scenes.

    • @tonyf8167
      @tonyf8167 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@k1productions87 you seem pretty short sighted... so a historically genocidal madman with a planet killing device isnt "high enough" stakes for you... hmmm.

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonyf8167 Oh it would be nice if the movie itself actually presented that. The only indication we get where that is even an issue is in the deleted scenes. Beyond that, the Genesis Device is only a bargaining chip between them. And Khan just detonates it to be a Kirk killer. Even in the extended versions, Khan himself made no reference what-so-ever to any importance of having Genesis other than just having it.
      Oh WE can theorize all we want, but that doesn't excuse it. That's us writing for the writers, when THEY should have been the ones doing that work.
      Besides, if Khan having the Genesis Device was so important, the battle in the Mutara Nebula shouldn't have even happened. Even Joachim tries to remind him of this... but even then, we only get an incomplete sentence.
      Just so much missed opportunity just to have some cool shots of starships superimposed with footage from the "cloud tank" and a few exchanges of weapons fire.

      @tonyf8167 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@k1productions87 read the book, it addresses all your points and it is worth the read (Saavik was a totally gimped character in the movies)... movies dont have time and/or often cant fully actualize what is really happening...
      but none of this negates my initial premise; there is a difference between a SHIP and CRAFT, a point that is often ignored in the ST franchise to the detriment many space battle scenes.

    How did the Generations "battle" make it onto the list but the final battle of the Dominion War or the Wrath of Kahn were sadly left out?

    Star Trek: Nemesis crosses elements from Star Trek II & Star Trek VI- it was serviceable enough, but its hard to believe that the Scimitar's cloak couldn't be penetrated as Data was there and he advised a defense against the Picard Manuever, and in Star Trek VI, Uhura , Dr. McCoy & Capt. Spock modified a photon torpedo as a heatseeker to destroy Chang's Klingon Bird-of-Prey.

    The reason Star Trek doesn't do small craft battles usually is because their cap ship weapons are fast enough and precise enough to hit small craft. The Aircraft Carrier doesn't become the dominant force if the Battleship can hit planes WITH THEIR MAIN GUNS.

    No.1 Mutara Nebula. No 2 Khitomer. No. 3 Balance of Terror (against first ever cloaked vessel in ST).... Hell I'd even put the Kobayashi Maru training sim at the beginning of WOK above some of these.

    Discovery has no business in a Star Trek video of any kind.

    It's so campy it's almost painful, yet at the same time the original was so campy it was on the edge of painful. I guess that is part of Star Treks charm, love star trek.

    Stargate in my opinion, even while most episodes were based on a planet or in a ship rather than the ships themselves, still had some of the best fights I’ve ever seen. And these were made a long time ago

    that part where you said the Scimitar looks like a deep-sea fish reminded me of something:
    ever seen an old movie called "battle beyond the stars"?
    the villain's main ship looks like it was modeled on a Hammerhead Shark.

    The Generations battle was the D's last stand. I liken it to them getting one KO punch off & it connecting before it the ref steps in for the TKO.

    #4...i still remember the last part of the battle:
    EVERYONE on the Enterprise bridge is dead except Picard.
    the Klingons broadcast a surrender demand.
    Picard says "that'll be the day..." sits down at the Weapons controls, and fires.
    and keeps firing until the battle abruptly ends.

    Kirk's first encounter with the Romulans in the original. Though the effects no where near what modern shows and movies provide. It does show a great battle against an unknown foe and the quality of the original enterprise crew. The battle with Kahn should have gotten a honorable mention. As it was far better than the fight with the cloaked bird of prey.

    How can you have a list and not include Enterprise vs Reliant surprise attack? That discredits this list from the start. Not only do I call it the best in Star Trek it is the best in all of sci fi.

    The Enterprise - D wasn't at The Battle of Sector 001 as it had been destroyed after crash landing on Veridian III in Star Trek: Generations!! It was The Enterprise - E that was in the battle in first contact!!

    Need to re-title the video top 10 fleet battles because with one exception these all qualify as group battles/fleet battle and that would hopefully and untick off everybody talking about the reliant in the enterprise and make a second video called top 10 One on one Star Trek space battles

    Having any Discovery battles on here yet missing the Mutura Nebula and Wrath of Khan makes me question the list.....

  • @BarryH1701
    @BarryH1701 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like this list, but there are two notable battles that are missing. Balance of Terror as someone has already mentioned was an awesome battle of not only ships, but strategy between the opposing commanders. And of course, the battle with Khan was outstanding as well. Should be a top 12 list.

    Love how shields stop H-Bomb exploding photon torpedoes' but not a ship ramming another ship with only basic metal on metal kinetic energy.

    Balance of Terror is at least as good as any battle on here. its a 45 minute battle of wits between two captains both pushed to their tactical extremes. And its longer than all the other battles. WOW, you really missed it on this one, taking CGI over emotional tension as being better.
    And lets not forget the Doomsday machine, especially with the updated CGI from the remastered edition. You dropped the ball on this video.
