I've always heard that this amazing song, by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and wonderfully sung by Dionne Warwick, was a very deep tale. It was a tale of a woman saying a prayer for her man who is serving in the Vietnam war. It puts a very different spin on things. Listen to it again.
This makes me feel so nostalgic always will remind me of a family holiday in north wales in a caravan 7 kids and my mum and dad …………I think I will say a little prayer myself for my family , thanks for playing ❤️
Written by Hal David (Lyrics) and Burt Bacharach(Music) I saw an interview where Burt said when he was writing this song he had Dionne Warwick in his mind to sing it and she recorded it and made it her own, Aretha Franklin also recorded it and did a fabulous job but too me this will always be Dionne's song. Keep Safe Keep Strong
Dionne Warwick has done some superb stuff - "Walk on By" "Do you Know the Way to San Jose" "People Got to be Free", "Heartbreaker", "You'll Never Get To Heaven" - the list is a long one. BUT...... IMO this is a rather frothy version of this song which tries too hard to make it a caberet number, which it's really not. Aretha's later version was an enduring worldwide hit and gives the song a more gutsy treatment which I think suits it far better. By the way if you ever get a chance to see it, Dionne Warwick guested on the 1970s TV detective series "The Rockford Files" in a 1977 episode called "Second Chance" which also guest stars Isaac Hayes. Well worth a look if you get the chance - yes, she gets to sing a couple of times.
Great reaction to a beautiful song. I just knew you would like this song. Fun fact: Dionne and Whitney Houston are cousins, even tho there is a lot of years between the two. Have a great day.
obviously a 60 song. I believe, at the time, it was a song to all the men serving in Vietnam. Kind of a reassuring song to give them hope while they were at war. I'm not going to read all the comments, cuz it may be in there, but Dionne Warwick is Whitney Houston's aunt.
I’m so happy I got to see your reaction to Dionne Warwick to this song! The songs she made in the 60s are so iconic. Thank you so much!🥰🥰🥰
Happy to see you both happily enjoying this great song. Have a great day 😃
The real deal. The one and only Dionne Warwick.

Gotta love Burt & Hal! Burt wanted Dionne to do his songs. Perfect voice FOR them, he thought.
Dionne Warwick + Burt Bacharach + Hal David = HEAVEN.
Dionne Warwick's version was the first, before Aretha Franklin's, and has always been my favorite version! And Dionne's version charted higher!

I love those bacharach style horns from that period. Thanks for sharing.
Written by the great Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Dionne was his chosen voice for many of his songs.
Couldn't agree more... One of my favorites.......

Que Bella canción.. no conocia la intérprete.!!
Burt Bacharach baby!
Dionne is related to Whitney Houston
Cousins.
A classic tune by a classic artist, it's rare that an original is improved upon but for me the Aretha Franklin arrangement is better.
