This was one of my mom's favorite songs. I haven't heard it since I was a kid. Thank you for the most heart felt cry I've had since she passed. I listened to it again and felt so good I can't explain it. Thank you!
My husband was in the Marines doing his tour in Vietnam. I rode the bus to work and had this song in my head every day all day. Thank you to your grandma for suggesting it.
Ms Dionne and the composer, Burt Bacharach were one of the greatest of teams ever in the music biz. No one sings like her and no one writes like him. Try listening to Ms Warwick sing "Alfie"!
My man, I don't believe I've ever seen anybody enjoy great music the way you do! I love what you have to say about every song you hear. I've heard you say many, many times how you wish you were born in this era. I grew up with this music, and you're absolutely right. It was music back then! (PS. Your grandmom sounds awesome.) Peace...
La mejor cantante de los Estados Unidos, tiene una voz única e inconfundible. Crecí escuchándola desde los años sesenta. Mucha salud y bendiciones para Dionne desde Puerto Rico.
I love the very sweet little smile on your face as you start to hear her voice. Her voice is lovely,..and she has always made me smile too. Music was so much more innocent back in the 60s and 70s and it's just gotten progressively more destructive more violent more self-centered. But this is sweet and innocent and even you can acknowledge that. Whoever you are?? I just saw you for the first time just now. But I loved your little smile and it made me think you even see the sweetness!
Yes, like "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", "Promises, Promises", "I'll Never Fall in Love Again", "Walk On By"...good stuff! (By the way, it's "Bacharach".)
Burt Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, and singer who has composed hundreds of popular hit songs from the late 1950s through the 1980s, many in collaboration with popular lyricist Hal David. Burt is a six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner. More than 1000 artists have records his songs. As of 2014[update], he had written 73 US and 52 UK Top 40 Hits. He is considered one of the most important composers of 20th-century popular music.
She is one classy lady with a beautiful voice. Thanks for sharing this song and for bringing us such a wonderful tribute to the women in your life. You are lucky to have them and they are blessed to have you. I can tell this series is going to bring back a lot of memories.
So I am 60 and our family is white. See what people do not understand is how much she impacted crossover for black female artist. A clarion of beauty and talent. She changed lives with her collaborations with Burt Bacharach. You keep fighting thru whatever stuff you were going through at the time you recorded this. Sayin a little prayer for you. No cap.
Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach collaborated on many songs Burt wrote over 500 songs maybe more... including (They long to be) Close to You. Dionne and Karen Carpenter were very good friends.
I saw a documentary on PBS about the writers of this song Hal David and Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick. They said it was written for the guys in Viet Nam. The woman is saying a little prayer all day long for her man who is off to war. I didn't know that at the time. Makes more sense now.
Big thanks to your Grandma for recommending this! Great to see you reacting not only to the artistry of Dionne Warwick but also to the musical magic of Burt Bacharach. As I explore your channel I hope to run across more Bacharach tunes. This was great!
Love you and your grandma. Feel like we are kindred spirits. Love this song. Reminds me of picnics at the lake with family. Did you know whitney huston was her niece? ❤. I say a little 🙏 for you.
Your grandma is one special lady! Since you liked this song, you should give "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" by "The Mamas and the Papas" a listen. They were a folk group from the 1960's and had a lot of hit songs, "California Dreamin" is another great song of theirs.
Just an FYI about this particular song that gives it a deeper meaning: Though the tempo is upbeat & happy, the reason she is saying a little prayer all throughout her day for the man she loves is because he is serving in Vietnam. The song was released in 1968, so you can imagine how many women back home were having those emotions every single day. And let's give Hal David his due. Burt & Hal were one of the best creative teams when it came to song writing. Burt did the composing while Hal wrote every word. They were a hit making machine because the songs they put out were excellent.
all praises to grandma and mom i would love to watch you react to some ella fitzgerald, the first female artist whose voice i fell in love with at 8 and whom i still adore at 50 if she had one flaw, it is that she enjoyed singing so much that you coud always hear her smile in the songs, even the sad ones i would start with any song with ella fitzgerald and joe pass, an excellent guitarist
Joined your channel a couple of days ago brother... I call you that because your reactions are exactly the same as mine to this beautiful music... age doesn't matter, race doesn't matter, nationality doesn't matter... the music joins us all.
If you liked that, you will like many of Burt Bacharach's songs. He's written songs and produced and worked with some of the best singers of the '50's, 60's and 70's. Other songs of his I would suggest: Aretha Franklin's version of this song; The Stylistic's "You'll Never Get to Heaven (If You Break My Heart); The Carpenter's "Close To You"; Herb Alpert's "This Guy's In Love With You" and Dusty Springfield's "Wishin and Hopin". Those are just a few! JB I just came across your channel and I enjoy your reactions, cause you can tell they are genuine. It's cool that you really like "old school" music.
She is Whitney first cousin. Whitney's mother Cissy is the youngest child in her family of 8 kids. Dionne''s mother Marie 11 years old when Cissy Houston was born.
Old white guy here. Didn't know many black people in in 64 but I knew her voice. Made me hard. She made me look beyond color when it was as thing and I was a kid. We are taught so much crap and music lets us here the love of people, the only thing that is human and matters.
I would like you to look up a favorite song of my mother's favorite, it's called Misty Blue, by Dorothy Moore, it just puts me in tears,, you'll love the song, I'm sure your grandma heard it too..
Please do Anne Murray and Dionne Warwick in Quebec, Canada and Anne Murray's "I just fall in Love Again"...These two are the best voices in recorded music history.
She had a great relationship with Burt Bacharach, who wanted her to sing the theme to the movie Alfie with Michael Caine, but the studio or producers insisted on letting Cher do it. The studio won out and the song was a flop until Bacharach's girl Dionne Warwick redid it. Bacharach along with Carol Bayer Sager were awesome writers.
This was one of my mom's favorite songs. I haven't heard it since I was a kid. Thank you for the most heart felt cry I've had since she passed. I listened to it again and felt so good I can't explain it. Thank you!
We can all have love. Be worthy and give unlimited love! God Bless this kind of music!
Dionne's voice was on the soundtrack of my childhood ♥️
This song and Walk On By are my favorite Dionne Warwick songs
Dionne is greatness personified and her teamwork with Bacharach and David are timeless

Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin were pioneers
Ms D, beautiful. I’ve been a fan since 1965. She has been so underrated and overlooked for her amazing talent.
My husband was in the Marines doing his tour in Vietnam. I rode the bus to work and had this song in my head every day all day. Thank you to your grandma for suggesting it.
That's such an awesome memory, thank you!
Ms Dionne and the composer, Burt Bacharach were one of the greatest of teams ever in the music biz. No one sings like her and no one writes like him. Try listening to Ms Warwick sing "Alfie"!
Legendary Dionne Warwick hits “Don’t Make Me Over” , “Anyone who Had a Heart” and “ I’ll never Love This Way Again” are a few among many hits
The collaboration between Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach created magic in the 1960s
Yeah, the apple sure didn't fall far from the tree when it came to talent in that family.
Amazing!

Dionne Warwick! Whitney Houston's aunt I believe.

Exactly
This is such a feel good song!!! Your Grandma is an awesome lady!!! I hope you have a wonderful and blessed day my friend!!! 😊😊😊😊 🐧🐧
Your grandma sounds terrific
I appreciate your love of music
Dionne is a songbird. Icon ❤️
Burt Bacharach wrote many songs (hits) just for her. He's sitting at the piano in the last picture. She is one of the best.
My Queen Dionne Warwick 👑❤
Pure natural talent. No vocal training. I didn't realize she was related to Whitney Houston. Do Walk On By by DW.
She sung a lot of songs that a man by the name of Burt Baccarat wrote.
Yes, like "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", "Promises, Promises", "I'll Never Fall in Love Again", "Walk On By"...good stuff! (By the way, it's "Bacharach".)
Over 30 of his songs.

@@lakelili I know the Carpenters recorded a few of his songs. He is a treasure that most people don't realize we were blessed with
this was one of them
Angelic is a great way to describe her voice.
anyone that smiles all the way through a nice song like this. :)
J, give your grandma a hug. Dionne was one of my favorites in the 60s.

I had just turned 5 before this was released...one of my all-time favorites!!! 🎵💜🎶
For some reason this song made me feel like I was 11 yrs old. It must have impacted me on some level at that time in my life. Lovely classic!
Absolutely love every song she sang. She's amazing!
I will pray for you. You seem to be struggling right now. Grab your inner strength and don't let go. Believe in your self.
You are awesome, JB. Your appreciation of these old songs and your love for your grandma are so special.

Great comment!
I so loved Dionne

Love your reactions, and your smile just lights up this 'virtual' room!
Thank you for reacting to music my parents listened to. It brings back so many memories. Your Grandparents know their shit.
Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach collaborated on many songs Burt wrote over 500 songs maybe more... including (They long to be) Close to You. Dionne and Karen Carpenter were very good friends.

Love from Bangalore India
Oh I love her. One of my favorite songs is the Theme song To The Valley of The Dolls.. hauntingly beautiful..
One of the greatest classics
I want to hang out with Grandma! You should get her on camera with you for the “Grandma’s Suggestion” reactions. We already love her!
This song brings me back in time.

I was 9 or 10 .When theme to Valley of the Dolls. was a hit. Still love it.

That's Burt Bacharach at 0:40. He wrote the music for the song and others that Dionne performed. Hal David wrote the lyrics.
This brings back good memories!
I saw a documentary on PBS about the writers of this song Hal David and Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick. They said it was written for the guys in Viet Nam. The woman is saying a little prayer all day long for her man who is off to war. I didn't know that at the time. Makes more sense now.
Dionne Warwick ..cissy Houston..Whitney ..all from Newark
I love her songs, another great singer like Gladys Knight, Diana Ross etc, etc thanks JB for sharing .Have you heard Reach Out by The Four Tops?
Your grandmother has good taste
Big thanks to your Grandma for recommending this! Great to see you reacting not only to the artistry of Dionne Warwick but also to the musical magic of Burt Bacharach. As I explore your channel I hope to run across more Bacharach tunes. This was great!

Thank you for the Warwick/Bacharach
Praying for you and what ever you are going through.
Your grandma is one special lady!
Since you liked this song, you should give "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" by "The Mamas and the Papas" a listen. They were a folk group from the 1960's and had a lot of hit songs, "California Dreamin" is another great song of theirs.
Both The Carpenters and Dionne Warwick collaborated with Burt Bacharach (those trumpets!). And, Dionne was friends with them. 💖

Oh man...I was going to request this! Great timing...classic R & b..
She has hits in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s! Do Heartbreaker (1982). She sang it and it was written by The Bee Gees.
I know she has a lot of great songs, but I remember my dad playing Do you Know the way to San Jose. You should check that song out.
Another great reaction video 😀😃😄😄
a great soul singer, 1 of the best
She is the aunt of Whitney Houston. Warwick and Bacharach who was next to her in the beggining picture were magic together.
She and Whitney are first cousins, their mothers were sisters.
For comparison, you should check out Aretha Franklin's version. I love them both.
Me too!
I like Aretha’s better. Less “Las Vegas Show” feel and more soulful. But agreed, both versions are great.
Joined your channel a couple of days ago brother... I call you that because your reactions are exactly the same as mine to this beautiful music... age doesn't matter, race doesn't matter, nationality doesn't matter... the music joins us all.
Giving you a cyber hug. You're a good man.
I'm glad you chose this song, just if you would've checked out her live version, I think I'm The Ed Sullivan Show.
If you liked that, you will like many of Burt Bacharach's songs. He's written songs and produced and worked with some of the best singers of the '50's, 60's and 70's. I love that you doing these classics, so fun to see, was just wondering what's your plan for the rest of Queen doc?
Please do Anne Murray and Dionne Warwick in Quebec, Canada and Anne Murray's "I just fall in Love Again"...These two are the best voices in recorded music history.
Thx! I heard she sang this intended for the soldiers in Nam! -Terry, Canoga Park
amazing voice, she and burt bacharach pretty much were the top dogs in that whole era of AOR....
Her songwriter was the white guy at the beginning. He wrote and she sang Burt bacharach
I had a crush on her and Natalie Cole when I was a kid. LOL
