This may be her best known hit, but I think she smoked on "Walk On By". I should mention: I saw her in concert and she sang for 45 minutes straight, pulled up a chair and sat down and said to the audience, "45 minutes is a long time to keep a woman from talking". She was outstanding and delightful.
Dionne Warwick made many hits with composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David. My favorite is her rendition of Alfie. Let's just say that they don't make music today like they used to. Bacharach and David went on to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin award that honors a lifetime of popular music.
I was hoping someone would mention the Houston Warwick connection. Dionne's mother and Whitney's mother were sisters. There was a very large age gap between the sisters. Dionne is Cissy Houston's niece and Whitney's cousin. I'm glad you commented. So few people ever mention it😊
I've always loved her voice and songs, ever since I heard "Walk On By". I found out that In 1982 she released her album "Heartbreaker" and the Bee Gees wrote the title track especially for her. That's another great one to check out. Much love
Years ago I got totally lost in Berkeley. I had to get back to Santa Cruz by way of San Jose. I found a cop on the side of a street and sang him the refrain. He was too young - not amused - probably thought I was nuts. 😁
Such a deep rabbit hole here with Dionne Warwick! Such a gorgeous voice and woman! My fave is Say A Little Prayer.... Which a featured in the movie My Best Friend's Wedding, a great Rom Com with Julia Roberts!!! Dionne also had a great perfume back in the day! I loved it!!!! ❤
Yall got to get into her extensive catalogue and live performances! Ms. Iconic legendary Dionne is 🔥 . The voice of all voice, period!!! One of a kind. Can't and will not be duplicated ❤ . Ms. Dionne voice is extremely versatile. She can do anything with her voice. That's why she was chosen to do complex classics. She is famous for singing the in and out of ranges and different genres.
Dionne is 👸🏾. I always wonder “How could they NOT know this song?!” I was 4 when this song came out so why do I know it? Then I remembered that that the whole time I was growing up, my parents listened to the radio. Then I listened to the radio. Also, I love Dionne and had her Greatest Hits *album* before the world went to streaming and headphones. Back in the day, we listened to other kinds of music than only what we, personally, liked. My mom listened to everything from Irish folk music to Motown to Willie Nelson & John Denver to Gladys Night to the freaking Ink Spots (from the 40s!). All of that music lives on my playlists. Because we only had 1 stereo, my mom ended up listening to Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Michael and Janet Jackson, etc etc etc. I love that you guys are experiencing and SHARING music from the days when music was made by people and not computers. 🫶🤟
This song was late in the Bacharach-David-Warwick partnership. By 1964, Dionne was a massive hit with "Walk On By". Radio here in LA was playing her non-stop as part of the then-new 60s pop sound along with Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass. When I met her in the early 1990s, she was as sweet, gracious and lovely as a person could be.
I was ten or twelve years old when this came out and not particularly into music at that time. But my mother loved Dionne Warwick and I well remember her playing this song on her big Zenith console turntable. It's nostalgic for me to hear these sixties songs.
I remember going to the Drive-In as a kid and this was playing on the speakers before the movie started. I don’t remember a lot of my life but I sure remember Dionne Warwick.
Warwick may be my favorite female singer from the 60's. In the 70's I learned to love Donna Summer. Unique and excellent voices. The song is 60's pop, but that brought in the green. Nothing wrong there. And yes the line about parking cars and pumping gas, was excellent. Nice warning to young wannabees.
One of my very favorite songs by Bacharah and David. Give a listen to Dionne doing more Bacharah and David with "Walk On By", "I Say A Little Prayer", "Don't Make Me Over", and "Anyone Who Had A Heart".
This song is one of my earworms since 1985 when I first heard it performed by Frankie Goes To Hollywood on their magnificient ''Welcome To The Pleasuredome''...
I was a small white kid and heard this song all the time on my mom's car/house channel. Loved it. I can't believe you guys never heard this? Seems crazy
She has a beautiful voice! I really like her early work with Burt Bacharat. Her music is very reminiscent of 60's, lounge music (sort of like music for a road trip to Las Vegas back in the 60's 70's). As other comments state, please check out "Walk on By".. Thanks for reacting to her.
I just saw her perform in July in a intimate venue maybe 200 people..she is so beautiful as singer and as a person..she is all about love...we all had such good time..she was glowing..
Back in the late 70's i saw Dionne in Green Bay , Wi. ---fantastic show mostly white crowd then I moved to West Palm Beach ,Fl in the early 80's and saw her in Miami-totally different show-mostly African American crowd but both shows were out of this world fantastic
I was in my late teens when this came out, and it was a great song to listen to when you were driving around. "Put a $100 down and buy a car" brings back some memories! Thanks for a great video featuring a great song, and God bless you!
The songs Dionne Warwick sang in the 60's (mostly Burk Baccarach) are so different from her later work. Also, her voice was different. As she matured her voice became deeper. Her voice in the 60's was lighter and she did a lot of vocal acrobatics. I hope you listen to more of her work from this period.
I regret not knowing you reacted to Dionne before!. She is and always has been my "Queen of Soul!!" I really wished her television program could still be found somewhere!
Also by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. They wrote all of her big hits! She’s Whitney’s cousin, too! Recommendation: the FIRST “ That’s What Friends Are For” with Gladys Knight, Elton John and Stevie Wonder is a vocal MASTERCLASS !!!!
Her and Burt B were a dream team. She was a pop singer because Burt and Carol Bayer Sager wrote pop songs. Walk on By. Luther got famous off of the Carpenters too ( Superstar)
Dionne Warick was on an episode of "The Rockford Files," with Gandy (Isacc Hayes) as her promoter/boyfriend. The Gandy Character on "The Rockford Files," was very well written.
Thank you for listening to my "muzak" suggestion.😂 In 1972 I was 13, my brother came home for a visit from the Navy. He brought Dionne Warwick's album album with him. This song reminds me of that every time. BTW, you got me Corey.
In 2024, Warwick was selected for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the musical excellence category. Please check out her live performance video for her cover of the Stevie Wonder song, 'All in Love is Fair' from 1975. Truly an astounding performance, showing that she can really belt (she has amazing control and range).
Music by Burt Bacharach. Lyrics by Hal David. They wrote a lot of hits together. They wrote A House in not a Home too. Luther wrote and produced So Amazing.
She was Bacharach/David’s muse! This song popped on when I was driving on the 280 to San Jose in 1978, in a 1964 cherry apple red thunderbird convertible with a white rag roof. Too bad San Jose is no great destination.
I agree, Walk on By is my favorite by far.
Walk on by is her highest ranked song on billboards.
@pytube777 Actually it would be "That's What Friends a For"...
@@rayjones5684 I was referring to her song that she sang alone, not a group.
Walk on By is THE Dionne Warwick song! 🎶✌️
Her best song is 'This Empty Place'.
Love all the Bacharach/David songs performed by Dionne Warwick. What a voice!!!
Miss Dionne is getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this oncoming October of this year.
Cool
Well deserved and 'bout time😊
Alfie, say a little prayer for you, I’ll never love this way again, she is a rabbit hole definitely worth exploring
Y'all know she is Whitney Houston's cousin
Dionne's mom and Whitney's mom are sisters
Great reaction ❤

Walk on By, Message To Michael, Anyone Who Had A Heart, Allie, I Say A Little Prayer, so many cuts.
“Anyone Who Had A Heart”, probably my favorite Warwick/Bacharach collaboration. Song always induces goosebumps. ☺️
Dionne Warwick + Burt Bacharach + Hal David + Timeless Music
Many good hits. *This Girl's In Love With You. My fav.
Love all her early hits!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
My favorite Dionne song is "Valley of the Dolls".
Mine too!! No one ever reacts to it☹️
I had this 45. I love this Song. And her.
I traded the 45 for a Mickey Mantle baseball card back in the day.
@@plenary123 Nice!!
Try her "I Say a Little Prayer for You" and "Walk on By." '60s classics.
Beautiful voice and a beautiful lady!
I've always loved her voice and songs, ever since I heard "Walk On By". I found out that In 1982 she released her album "Heartbreaker" and the Bee Gees wrote the title track especially for her. That's another great one to check out. Much love
Try "Walk on By", "Say a Little Prayer for You", or "I'll Never Fall in Love Again"!
What the World Needs Now is one of my favourite songs she sang
I love Dionne she is so talented beautiful voice
Years ago I got totally lost in Berkeley.
I had to get back to Santa Cruz by way of San Jose. I found a cop on the side of a street and sang him the refrain.
He was too young - not amused - probably thought I was nuts. 😁
Walk On By & Anyone Who Had A Heart was my favorite, so good!👍♥️♥️♥️
Dionne Warwick had many, many hits with Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Walk On By.
You are right...she was huge in the 60's and captures the vibe...recommend "Don't Make Me Over" ....first song I remember from her.
Anything she sings is amazing. My favorite is Walk on by. Also, I never knew love before w/ The Spinners.
I think you mean Then Came you with The Spinners. Great song!
I was mesmerized by her growing up. Such an absolutely beautiful classy and angelic voice. RIP
What was the name of the perfume?
@@cocoaorange1 I think it was called Dionne. It was back in the mid 80's I believe.
Love this woman..grew up with this song
She is 88 years old this year!
Now you GOTTA hit up Walk On By. And then check out her song with the Spinners, Then Came You. An absolute banger.
Such a great talent.
Long career

a voice like smoky honey...gorgeous. Kind of at the end before the Summer of Love changed everything, but talent never dies

love Dionne Warwick, her voice is beautiful and unique. I remember this song being played at home, either my mom or sister must have had the record.

I always smile hearing Dionne Warwick.
This song crossed generations, like a lot of songs at the time. Me, my mom, and my grandma all sang along to this one,
She was part of the psychic friends network but could not find her way to San Jose. 😂😂 but seriously love her and this song.
I remember seeing her at the state fair! Mesmerizing voice and a beautiful woman
Love her crystal clear voice.
I remember going to the Drive-In as a kid and this was playing on the speakers before the movie started. I don’t remember a lot of my life but I sure remember Dionne Warwick.
Heard this classic all through my youth, beautiful vocal performance and great musicians for what is essentially a pretty sad song!
Such a beautiful voice. 😊

The arrangement of this song with her delicate voice amazing and it hooked me as a kid!
She was an angel.
My favorite song that she sings is heartbreaking;
Walk On By.
I just saw her perform in July in a intimate venue maybe 200 people..she is so beautiful as singer and as a person..she is all about love...we all had such good time..she was glowing..
It's been quite a while since I heard this one...good memories of growing up in southern California !

At this time San Jose was a rural area not the silicon valley of today. Walk On By is one of her best
So love this song
Such a great song
I heard this song and Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs Robinson" at 4yrs old on our family's move to Oregon from Wisconsin!! 1968 was a great year!
She has so many good songs. You should keep going with her.
She was a constant on the radio, Bacharach loved her voice and how she stylized her voice to his music
My Mom and Dad saw her in concert in the early 70’s. Love her voice. So talented!
I was in my late teens when this came out, and it was a great song to listen to when you were driving around. "Put a $100 down and buy a car" brings back some memories! Thanks for a great video featuring a great song, and God bless you!

Any Bacharach/David song sung by Dionne Warwick is a classic. They were a perfect match.
I regret not knowing you reacted to Dionne before!.
She is and always has been my "Queen of Soul!!"
I really wished her television program could still be found somewhere!
For anyone who's lived their life in the Bay Area, this is gold! Thanks for fond childhood memories!
She could sing. You don't hear singers much anymore, they've been replaced by autotune. She was also a lovely person--A star.
This is great, I think Dionne has gotten short shrift from the reaction channels. "Alfie" & "Heartbreaker" are my own personal favorites.
I think it is strict copyrights. No Burt Bacharach songs. Dione also herself. Notice no video used also as there are live performances that could be.
Super smooth. I’m a kid again riding in my Dads car
Diane Warwick’s Heartbreaker was played on cassette on repeat in my mom’s Mazda 323 when I was a kid. Great voice.
Written by the BEEGEES
Her and Burt B were a dream team. She was a pop singer because Burt and Carol Bayer Sager wrote pop songs. Walk on By. Luther got famous off of the Carpenters too ( Superstar)
"Walk On By" is her best. Just my opinion. Thanks for a great reaction and discussion, guys! ✌💙✌

Dionne Warick was on an episode of "The Rockford Files," with Gandy (Isacc Hayes) as her promoter/boyfriend. The Gandy Character on "The Rockford Files," was very well written.
Dad was a big Dionne Warwick fan; grew up listening to this album playing in our apartment; good memories ❤
Growing up in nor cal since the late sixties this song brings good memory vibes. Love her voice!
'Message to Michael' and the 'Theme from the Valley of the Doll s' , and Don't Make Me Over are 3 additional mentions.

Dionne Warwick‘s most famous song I believe was “I say a little prayer.” Aretha Franklin recorded the same song a year after DW’s release of 1967.
This was all over the radio back in 68, multiple times an hour, sorta get tired of it. But now known as a great tune.
Please check out her live performance video for her cover of the Stevie Wonder song, 'All in Love is Fair' from 1975. Truly an astounding performance, showing that she can really belt (she has amazing control and range).
Talking of Dionne Warwick you three should react to the Stranglers and their version of walk on by. Another UK group with an excellent version.
I love the world we live in. " Austin Powers put me on to Burt Backerack Yo..." . That's amazing.
I had a Dionne album as a teen in the UK in the 1960s ....... some great songs. Recommend 'A House is not a Home'
Another song Luthor " borrowed" was SUPERSTAR
De ja vous is my fave....and so many more...
One of a kind voice....I love everything she has ever done. She is Whitney's aunt
She is Whitney's first cousin, their mothers were sisters.
It's a great song. Also, it a very singalong song too.
Beautiful voice!!
Pls check out Dionne Warwick's duet with Jeffrey Osborne, 'Love Power.' One of my all time favorites!!!!!
