Thank you, THANK YOU!! I want to make a little dance duffle for my daughter and this is just PERFECT! 😍 She will absolutely love this... (And the tabs are a perfect place to hook detachable shoulder straps!)
This bag is adorable and so functional!! It's the perfect carry-on, too. I need to make one for my brother since he travels so much. He had a nappy carry-on and needs an upgrade. 😂😂
I think people see the outline of the end panel and do not realize all the other measurements and directions are right on it. I couldn't see that myself until I printed it out.

I made this bag and wanted to give my comments. First, I think I earned my PHD attaching the sides to the bag...hee hee! This is not a simple pattern and I'm not novice to sewing. Second, I had a pretty cotton fabric that I decided to use and interfaced it to give the bag stability. I do not recommend you do that because this bag requires a lot of handling and the interfacing gets comprised and no amount of ironing, once the bag is done, will fix it. Use canvas for sure. Third, it is so important to make sure you do leave a minimum 1/4" at the end when attaching the 2 main and 2 lining pieces. Next time, I would leave 1/2". Finally, the trick I used when attaching the sides, is I sewed the sides in 4 separate stitches; top and bottom first, and then sides. I found this was easier than going all the way around. Near the end, I was getting super frustrated I almost walked away from finishing but I really wanted to see how it would turn out. It's super cute and I think the next time I make it'll go a lot faster. I knew the first time it was going to be trying but it's worth it because it's a really cute bag.
This is adorable!!! Thank you so much for all you do for us! I appreciate it more then you know! I was always intimidated by zippers 😖😬 but after watching almost all of your videos and attempting several of your projects I have now mastered the zipper! Ok well mastered may be incorrect, but it looks straight and I can do it! Now I will attempt the duffle 🙏🏻👍! Oh I was going to let everyone know as well drop cloth fabric from your local Home Depot is cheap for trial runs before using your expensive fabric! Thanks again!
I have a zipper that is 24 inches long. Ide like to make a bag to fit the zipper. What measurements would I use for my fabric pieces? I'm fairly new to all this so any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the video and pattern piece. I don't see a "square" on the pattern piece to make sure that it is printing correctly. Most PDFs have a 1 or 2 inch square (or equivalent in cm) to measure. Thanks.
Hi can anyone help me please I'm on my 4th attempt and cannot get this bag right.😢😢😢😢😢 I've left the quarter inch gap one both sides of the zipper so when I'm sewing the sides panels passed the zipper do I sew the zipper as well or just the fabrics....if I sew the outer panel first then that attaches to the zipper and when I'm sewing the lining I can't keep the outer separate ie push it out of the way as it's already attached....I must be missing something as I'm not getting it😢😢😢😢😢 thanks any help appreciated Thanks Sue
1. does the side panel have to be a trapezoid or can we make it a perfect square? 2. if we want to make a bigger bag, can we just add inches to all the measurements or will it mess with the shape of the bag? Thank you!!! ♥
you can make it a square if you wish but you just need to measure the perimetre of the square so you can get the correct measurments to cut main part of the bag. ya if you add the same inches it should all work out in theory
I may have skimmed over them, but do you list measurements of the bag to go with the PDF file of the side panels?? I see the strap measurements, but not the outside bag and lining. 🙁

One more idea: before attaching the straps, the sides could have a zipped or gathered pocket. You can make 3 layers if you have the material and your machine can handle it. Then a matching/contrasting zipper pouch/makeup bag and add a detachable shoulder strap with D rings.
I am planning to make my own bag from clothes scraps and surprisingly this appeared on my recommended. I don't know if my machine can handle heavy fabrics though. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but most of the time, the machine hiccups and then I would end up with a messy stitch.
you might need to use a stronger needle when using a canvas fabric, i have a beginner brother machine and it handled this project just fine as long as i put in the appropriate needle size. try to use a 14/16 or a leather for heavier weight fabrics, also old needles can also do that so make sure u have a nice sharp needle in ur machine
