    I use my scraps to make very small boxes and put a grommet on the side to dispense doggy bags for walking my pup. Super easy and a very quick project.

    Great tutorial. I learned a great deal. I just learned to sew (2 months strong) and the boxy bag I recently made was boxy but didn't stand up as nicely as yours. Thank you for all of the great tips. I will add this to my 30 day bag making challenge. XOXO 🌹

    You did it AGAIN, read my mind. I just saw a tutorial yesterday for a similar box pouch but it had no speaking and was very confusing. I was growling with frustration while loving the idea. Then I opened your notice this morning and you came thru again with my wish. Bonus, every step explained exactly. Thank you Jan for my gift giving solution. 😅

    I love this pattern and tutorial, Jan! I started with zippered pouches and transitioned to the boxed variety a few weeks ago. Your pattern and tutorial are fantastic. Easy to follow and, with the French seams, the boxed corners are so much simpler and more fun to sew. Thank you, thank you!

    Thank you sew much Jan for another great video. You take time to show how to do each step and I appreciate that very much! I have done one boxed zipper pouch but your instructions on the zipper and the French seam at the end are brilliant! Now to purchase some of those zippers and pulls. These 3 sizes would make a lovely present for any reason and to anyone as all-purpose pouches that sit up nicely!

    This is a fabulous pattern and tutorial. I just made a couple of changes. I used the iron on interfacing on both the outside and lining fabric. I cut it about 1/2 to 1/4 inch smaller to reduce bulk at the seams. The biggest difference was using my walking foot for the whole item. Believe me it’s a change maker! lol. Will be making lots of these bags in the future. I also used a 5 zip without problems. Thank you Jan

    Great tutorial & especially for hiding the inside seams. I added the iron on laminate to the lining so the inside is wipeable. Just iron it so that about 1/8 to 1/16th of an inch is captured in the seam so you have less bulk when sewing. Great Christmas gifts, thanks!!

Thank you for explaining that this issue is caused by the bottom fabric feeding into the machine at a different rate than the top panel. Hi Jan, loved your tutorial on the box pouch. My question is - I followed your instructions but unfortunately my pouch came out smaller, not sure why. I had the same size as your set out, but it didn’t come out the same, 14.5” by 10,5” right. I look forward to hearing back from you.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should, but cut it down so it is 1/4 less wide than the other fabrics. That way it doesn’t get caught in the first seam but when you flip it to do the topstitch it will get stitches there. I hope that makes sense

    Quick question: when you tell the fabric dimensions for the handle and the tabs, your voice and the screen text do not match. Which is correct? Verbally, the dimensions for the handle are 7 x 3.5", but the screen note says 7.5" x 3.5" (timestamp 6:09). Same with the tabs: verbally, the dimensions are 4.5"x2" but the screen note says 4.5" x 2.5" (timestamp 6:18). I cut the fabric on the larger side to be safe, but I'm just working through the tutorial and don't know how it turns out yet.

    Curious as to why the zipper needs to be longer if I’m just cutting the zipper in the end? I’m a bit confused as some tutorials have you cut fabric 14 x 11 but the zipper they use is 14 inches and it still requires cutting. I’d like to use my full 14 inches zipper. Any advice?

    • @Jennijenniwcitt
      @Jennijenniwcitt 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I had the same question along these lines. This is my first zipper project and I have 9 inch zippers. Does that mean I make it only 9 inches long instead of 14?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Cutting the extra length gives you some wiggle room and the ends of the zipper tape tends to fray.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This depends on the finished size of the bag you want.

      @@JanHowell thank you for responding. I have exclusively used your video and this has been one of the hardest projects I have ever done. I have ripped out so many seams I’ve lost count. I started from scratch after hours yesterday. The main problem is I needed way more than an inch on each sides of the zipper. Idk if the tabs on each end of the zipper take up some of the extra inch or what happened. This is absolutely so hard and scary and frustrating to take on. I’m going to try again for a 3rd day and countless hours from scratch.

      you could buy the pattern or simply make the size you want - just use a zipper as long as the length you decide to make. you can make any size you choose..lining piece x 2 same size main fabric 2 pieces same size - 2 pieces stabilizer same size..you can make the corners bigger or smaller depending on the size of your bag.

      @gurukulbyspkher well I'm not the lady in the video - however I've been sewing just long enough to understand the basics..you can find other videos that show the fabric sizes - tendersmile is one - her videos are almost always fairly easy..just watch many videos of "boxy pouches" and then pock one..keep making til you get it then you can get more creative on your own once your comfortable with the process..for every good bag or pouch I make especially the 1st time I make one I make a mess of the 1st few and get better if I stick with it. happy sewing

    Whilst I am so grateful for all your videos, and all other sewing videos, I do find it frustrating that the insertion of the zipper pull is nearly always edited. Makes it look much easier than it actually is.

      I had a lot of trouble with them until I found a video showing that you put both sides through a jig (I bought one on amazon) at a 45 degree angle. Once I did that, it’s a piece of cake.

      no matter how good zipper videos are - zippers are a pain the 1st 100 times - but just keep making them and eventually you will master them. I use a zipper foot and move my needle all the way to the left and as my sewing skills have grown I find my zipper skills keep growing as well.
