- Hello my friends and WELCOME to "The Legend of Jon Slow." Jon Slow or "Terror" as he's been called for many years is a one of a kind player who is constantly using out of the box strategies. This man deserves legend status not only because of how long he's played the game but because of how crazy he plays the game, and MAN is it entertaining to watch! This is hands down one of the wildest strategy choices you will see in Age of Empires II, and it's also at a high level. This is about Jon Slow, but I want to salute to the darknoob. This is surely the kind of situation when victory becomes no longer the concern, but rather the honour, win or lose. The art of Defence shown here is reallly impressive!
I agree. Jon Slow was impressive, but I'm actually even more impressed with how Darknoob stuck it out.
Tenacious defense by Darknoob. Good to see that he fought it out and nearly came back. Was a close match all the way through.

never played this game but have been watching the casts by t90. what is a tower rush? is it rushing to build towers before you normally would or is it using a tower to "ruhs" and opponent? what is it exaclty? is it building towers in enemy space?

@@bobhumplick4213 A "rush", in general, refers to an early attack (as compared to slowly building up forces and attacking with a large army). This is typically achieved by sacrificing early-game economy in order to get the units for the attack. The opposite of a rush is a "boom", in which the player doesn't build any military units and focuses on building villagers. In AOE2, the community labels many strategies with the "rush" moniker, such as the Feudal Age Rush ("Flush") or Dark Age Rush ("Drush") to reflect the timing or unit composition. A Tower Rush ("Trush") involves an early attack, but using Watch Towers instead of military units. Since you obviously can't move a Tower, the intent is to surprise the opponent with a tower just outside their base and leapfrog closer into their base.
And he didn't do any rage in chat, which was a new one for these "legends" videos.

T90, your dedication to historical accuracy is second-to-none. Many spearmen throughout the ages are known to have jumped out of battering rams stating very matter of factly "Surprise. I am a pointyboi, and I am here to poke your underbelly." Really great stuff.
For real though, had me rollin.
I imagine that tradition was started by the atheneans when they used it as a warcry upon descending from the trojan horse.

It might be true that people can't make your streams, but...
I honestly don't even know when you're streaming, so I can't tell if I'm missing it. You should either advertise streams on youtube content, or baring that link off youtube content, onto a page which describes scheduled streams.
I can't use TH-cam as a means to promote my twitch directly anymore however what I could do is get my website up and running and my schedule could always be on there.
It's really as simple as following my twitter or stopping by the Twitch page every now and then, but I understand how for many that is a step they can't get around to some days! Thanks for the input.

AOE streaming is the kind of thing I'll watch if something interesting is happening, but don't want necessarily in my feed. Like when you used to post videos that said twitch was live that was more of a nuisance in my YT subscription feed. But if I had a way to know when special events etc were happening, I could set aside time to do that live.
I wouldn't mind if for example you mentioned such a thing at the end of a video which contained actual content(like this one). Just make sure that 1)It's at the end
2)You mention it's at the end, but only at a time I'd be watching anyway (e.g. early game trolling and click up from dark age)
3)You show a card that has the information, not just your voice telling us about it.
I feel so bad for darknoob, he must have been through a zen training to handle this match without losing his shit. Tbh when he had 5 mangonels he should have destroyed the towers that ranged the gold
He seems super used to being treated like that. Probably not his first rodeo.
He also could've microed his mangonels and spearmen better. He had a solid plain to come back into the game but then chucked it right out of the window with the poor positioning and micro.

During the castle battle, I was cringing so hard watching JohnSlow's castle attacking the freaking BARRACKS instead of the enemy castle!
I think it was actually the tower behind the castle. Pretty sure the castle was firing at darknoobs castle...
There were so many things. Leaving dark noobs market up for so long was a big one too. It was the only way he was surviving.

The tale of Jon Slow is one of woe, a vicious war that swang to and fro. It began with a douche that dealt a massive blow, which forced his opponent to move his eco. After many a battle Darknoob began to grow, a seed of new hope he began to sew. He pushed back valiantly against his foe, hoping this was a game he would surely throw. Alas the Noob became no mo', after ol' Johnny dealt the killing blow. This surely is a story you must know, the one of the legend, the Legend of Jon Slow.

It's really wierd that T90 was rooting for John Slow. I was on DarkNoob's side the entire game
John slow had him cornered like a rat. All he had to do was micro in some economy, spread, and overwhelm. Instead he's just... slow.

What a game! Congrats to Darknoob for hanging in there and not giving up so early. Glad to see he almost had a chance to come back, but Jon Slows micro with the bomb bards was too good

Dark-noob had the opportunity to sneak some villagers out of his base as soon as the first towers started going up. Even when he realised he was being douched he couldve escaped and tried to counter attack JonSnow's base. It was wide open without a TC and (at that point) still full of stone and gold.
Seeing this video way late, I only watched it with slight curiosity because you make interesting videos. However, when the early villager war began, you had my attention. Then, when you paused and stated Jon S was Persians, I knew what was up. Keep up posting these interesting videos (like the MBL TC snipe).
Edit: I had no idea what that mad man was up to!
This is one of my most important games of my childhood, and I had no idea there was still an active community at present day. I truly wish to watch more of this content, it makes me so happy... Does anyone have recommendations of which videos to start watching as I learn the pro-level strats for a game I f'ed around in a a 9-11 year old?

Darknoob carrying spearmen inside his battering rams to evade Jon's 15 towers was the most depressing, yet feasible maneuver I've seen lol.

Now that's beyond pro strats.
After the first two Legend videos, I'm at 40:50 and this is INCREDIBLY tense. Props for not mentioning who wins yet, because I can't tell! I guess it must be Jon Slow, but just like the last two, it's almost the end of the video and I'm still holding out hope for Dark Noob.
The really low price of wood in the market was really a big boost for Jon Slow. 25 wood means you don't have to chop wood yourself and basically enjoy much more efficiency in collecting since you have gold.

Interesting to see that Jon Slow left Darknoobs market intact when he could have destroyed it during his initial push. (edit) He probably did it on purpose to make the game more interesting.

That was incredible from Jon Slow. That would make me rage quit and uninstall the game if it happened to me! The second Douche at the end was the icing on the cake.
Darknoob's stamina is pro level, only a pro would go onwards and almost turn a bad situation into a counter. Commendable !
I would have called gg when Jon Slow got his tc up next to mine. The only thing I think Jon Slow should have done differently is focus on taking out Darknoob's market, after taking out his tc.
at some point in the game, Darknoob's base is like a miniature version of forest nothing haha! Great game!
Easy to say in hindsight, but I think Darknoob should have used market to purchase that castle the moment he hit Castle Age instead of make all those mangonels. Also I wonder if he could have snuck a vill out when the Douche happened, find neutral gold or gold in Jon Slow's base and TC it in Castle Age.

I'm almost always impressed with the quality you maintain on this channel. I've seen a lot of creators borderline abandon youtube once streaming really takes off, and here you are turning donation messages off in tourneys, wanting to do more. I really do appreciate it, I've tried streams before and its just a different style of content that turns out isn't for me. Can't wait to see more of these casts, keep it up!

It seems like the one thing that JonSlow could have done better was to destroy the other players' market as soon as possible. Destroy it, force the other guy to rebuild it, and slow him down even harder.

Your analysis of these games strikes me as the first cusp of a new development in e-sports: ESC - E-Sports Commentary. The way you go after it with your analysis and play-by-play, minus the occasional profanity, is on a level I'd expect of professional sports journalists.

Yeah I'd be pissed at first but then figure if I'm gonna lose I might as well go out with a bang. It's an interesting challenge and it would be fun trying to make a comeback. I'd go till the bitter end!

here's a trick you can do to get someone to open their wall up. Wall off their gates if you can. Then wait and scout out any stragglers who got out of the base before you walled them in. They are forced to open the wall if they want to leave and so long as you get a decent spread along their walls then you should get a couple of vilagers or units in before a gate goes up.

Hey guys, I remember all those good times playing this game. I downloaded AOE2 from steam. While playing I realize that the trees, the map zoom, other features like civilizations do not match the way these pro's play. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I want to play exactly in the scenario and settings showed in this game.

I think darknoob could potentially smash through the woods with catapults, at least that would give him a passage to the gold in neutral area, and his opponent’s back.
