I saw this video on Adam Neely's channel and I'm so happy that I was able to find your performance here. Subscribed! Keep up the awesome work!

Haha, I do this same thing a lot. You can also do it with Mendelssohn! One thing to try is to vary grooves more; instead of always sticking to the classic "long short long short", you can add a lot more variety to really mess with things.

Man! This grooves SO hard. It FEELS way better than "Reinhardt, Grappelli, Eddie South - Bach Double" which, at 228 bpm, just doesn't groove like yours does at 170 bpm. So, great choice there. Secondly, although Adam Neely's suggestions were about improving what you've done so far, his reactions were super positive right from the beginning. In 2 seconds you can tell he digs it, I think it's the groove he feels right away and he likes it. After a mere 5 seconds he chuckles with delight. Once the second violin enters he is hooked. (I think this entrance is SUPER compelling.) Now for my view: I think you should NOT sacrifice any classical tone and add very few grace notes, if any. So NO change in your attack in some imitative way, no stylistic ornamentations, no grace notes, no tone color change overall but, nevertheless, in a nuanced, sophisticated way, that stays true to your Classical roots, add just a few well-placed changes in attack and tone, adding just a few grace notes or ornaments. I mean, a sophisticated sound with some nuanced grit is - well, the shit. (As in good - great!) It's like... hearing and seeing a clearly classy, sophisticated person rooted in the priorities of Classical music (excellence, great tone, measured restraint) play with just a little sass, all the while seriously grooving, - it's great. You could reveal a little more sass latter, like a rubber band stretching, then containing it all back in at the end. I picture this in a longer form - say 2.5-4 minutes - being the centerpiece of a movie. Seriously. This concept is a VERY good one. You should record multiple versions of it with varying degrees of letting loose and submit it to a movie director you would want to build a movie around it. Seriously. I like the slides (portamentos) on 0:40 and 0:44 I see that those were played by Kevin. So, that's another approach: a strictly classical player and a more jazz-oriented player doing a dance of influencing one another, pushing and pulling, encouraging. Dancing. It's VERY cinematic. It would be the climax to the movie. ....if you don't do it then...well, I might have to steal it...but you should do it. Well done. I want more.

Dude, thanks so much for the encouragement and feedback. Yeah as you can tell I’ve got a classical background but have been getting into jazz manouche in the last 5 years. I’ve been really grappling with the question of if I should try to scrap my classical roots and pick up more the jazz sound but at the end of the day I feel like classical is buried in my bones. It’s really great to hear somebody say dig into it even more so I really appreciate the feedback!
