Learning this piece right now for a recital, this by far the best recording I have listened to. No one plays Bach like Hillary Hahn. She plays it so effortlessly, elegantly, and beautifully.

She plays Bach exactly how you would like to hear it. Spirited, articulated, grand, organic, technically flawless, elegant and gracious yet powerful, deep and broad, there is everything there. Btw, much superior performance here than the CD with the SFO

I played that piece at 17 for the first time in the conservatory for my HS graduation. I injured my left hand years ago so I have not played in years. But It remains my favorite. Hahn's rendition is flawless.
I'm 13 years old and my teacher gave this concertino yesterday and I need to play on exam all 6 pages. On the exam I can't have any notes. I have 5 months. Of course I have 4 other songs but I think it's the hardest one.
She is just jaw dropping perfection. There is no ego in her performance, just the voice of the Divine and the Genius of the composer. Hilary is “Shakti carrying a violin bow.” She will be known forever as one of the eternal masters of the instrument 🎻.

Not 'almost' dance-like, in my opinion. I believe Bach wanted it to be dance-like. Gesner's description of Bach's conducting, along with the wonderful flow of his own autographs, appear to prove that point.
Classical music is not just sound; it is a convergence of emotion and imagination. From the smallest musical notes to grandiose compositions, each musical phrase is an adventure through time and culture.
I like the way that, in the last movement, all the players are smiling and making eye contact, really enjoying the dance of the music. Ms. Hahn, who was a dancer, is clearly communicating her own delight to the rest of the orchestra and conductor. I also appreciate the choice of tempo - these are clearly dances. If you can't visualize people dancing to much of Bach's music, the tempo is probably too fast. It seems to be a common choice to play Bach a bit faster than the music suggests it ought to be played. Just because you can play fast, doesn't mean you should.
Unfortunately very rare. I've seen soloists actually with their BACKS to the conductor! And why on earth do they need the sheet music? As a student I busked both violin concertos and all six solo sonatas, including the Chaconne, in London's West End, all from memory. It's not hard!
Of course Hilary's playing is always fantastic, then add the balance between her sound and the orchestra, the quality of the tone in the period instruments, the sound of the church and then the engineering of the recording, which is no easy feat, all combine to show that this is the way to play Bach...I put this on and put the volume to Max and then disappear in the sound, its brilliant...
I first saw Hilary Hahn at the Skaneateles Festival in the Finger Lakes of Upstate NY when she was very young. She was so impressive. I've watched her grow into a profound virtuoso ever since. Brava!
She is a music genius .If you hear her playing Bach’s -Gigue in Dm( when she was 15 years old) you will realize - what a supernatural talent means. I am sure that the excellent musicians that were behind her, will never forget this moments of their life...

Hillary Hahn, you’re my favorite. I’ve been listening to you since I was a teenager. I poured my heart and soul into violin. Had to stop playing for the past nine years because our daughter has significant autism and the sound bothered her. This week she finally let me play again! I’ll never take violin for granted. My comeback piece is Bach’s Gigue from the 2nd Partita.
The conductor and the companion all play in harmony. This is actual mature version than the studio version, recorded at the earlier age off her. This version reduce the intensity and serious and express the calming aura. The acoustic of this hall is fantastic, nice blending make tone mellow and smooth without scarifying expressive. Perfect.
Exquisite control, compressed passion, gorgeous tone. Hillary soars. She feels the weight of every note and tempers its colour, expresses its joy or sadness and her bowing is both feminine and powerful, filled with a deep knowing of what every phrase has to tell. Her playing is so deeply melodic and nuanced that it leaves most other players in her shadow.

Excellent! This violin concerto has grown enormously on me, and I particularly enjoyed the dance-like pace of the final movement. Wonderful playing from Ms. Hahn and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie-- you can see their satisfaction by the end!
Second most. Most is BWV1042, which she also played in this concert. The second movement is the pinnacle of heartrending beauty. I can't listen to it without finding my eyes welling up.

It's not a difficult piece for a seasoned musician to play. But she brings the joy of the music, with a natural, almost dance-like pace. A class act!

Excellent! This violin concerto has grown enormously on me, and I particularly enjoyed the dance-like pace of the final movement. Wonderful playing from Ms. Hahn and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie-- you can see their satisfaction by the end!

Second most. Most is BWV1042, which she also played in this concert. The second movement is the pinnacle of heartrending beauty. I can't listen to it without finding my eyes welling up.
