@KatyDidRocks no you don't have it wrong Kate. Burls can grow at the base of trees in the rootball area, and they can also grow on trunks and branches. They are usually a swirled/figured grain that makes a round/tumor shape most the time. But rootballs can also look similar to burls a lot of the time too
Hey, is there any possible way to buy pieces of rock like that? I would be interested in sending it away and have made into a gear shift knob Just saying that might be another Avenue to take. Instead of just slabs. Please let me know if anything like that could be bought
Hi! If you are interested in buying chunks of petrified wood, contact me through my Etsy store: www.etsy.com/shop/KatyDidRocks I have lots of agatized wood, although not so many burls like the one pictured.

Beautiful!! Please consider just slabbing 1or both ends. It would make a beautiful display piece!
I have to agree. I am pondering.
It's gonna be good!

Wow!!!😮
:)
It looks to me like it might be an agatized rootball, but it might be a burl.... either way it's a rare find!!
I think maybe I have the word wrong. 😆
