  • Alright kids, my university assignment was completed on time. This week I show you how to build a parts washer from scrap. The only new part that I bought for this project was a fine adjustment air regulator for air brushing work. This allows me to adjust the pressure down to as low as 3psi, since the regular air tool pressure of approximately 100psi is much too high and dangerous for a tank of pressurised solvents.
Future planned additions are a catch tank connected to the old laundry tub plug hole, this will collect the used solvent. This will be filtered and used to refill the pressure tank. The circle of life!
Kerosene is also known in other parts of the world as Paraffin Oil, Aircraft Fuel, or Jet Fuel. It is a good cheap general use solvent for cleaning greasy parts.
The vaccum former project is on hold at the moment while I wait for some parts to arrive.
The Steampunk quadricycle is on hold at the moment due to it being as cold as f**k outside.
    Thanks for watching.

Great way to overcome using pumps with solvents. !

Drain ? How do you get the solvent back to the tank? A sink full of solvent could just be poured in the sink.

Thanks. It still works great after all these months.

It doesn't need to be super clean to reuse. Just a light filter to remove the particulates. Because there isn't too much movement and pressure, these will settle to the bottom by themselves anyway. Thanks for watching.

If you add a regulator just after air inlet valve but before tank/other components, wouldn't that not accurately regulate pressure inside tank? Only at which pressure you fill at

Better be careful pressurizing flammable liquids lol I haul chemicals for a living and we pump off flammables and never air (pressurize) them off the tank because that can cause them to ignite!!!

Nice build but how does an airbrush gun with pressurized cleaner clean the parts? Seems like a great tool for rinsing parts that have been soaking in a hot tank though

Very nice! thank you, I subscribed. Any ideas for how to filter the dirty solvent after use? thank you.

Great construction. I would use kerosene, though.

So the drain is blocked off until pressure is removed from the tank? or do you intend to drain it/ filter it into a 2nd tank?

No pressure relief valve? Regulators can fail.

    • @KeltonGrayson

+Yeager Mcbipper The was no flow. The system was static. The tank was charged to 4psi then the air line was disconnected.

You're completely missing the point. For the sake of a $3 valve you're gonna assume that everything will be perfect and never fail. I hope it never goes boom. But if it does you're the one who's gonna be hurting, not me. My pressure vessels have safety valves.

Dude I get what you are saying. But once again, this was a static 4psi system. Crack pressure in the flow direction on a cheap Chinese check valve is around 3psi. So we are talking about pressures so low it isn't even technically considered as pressure. It is literally just static pressure to give the fluid enough head to flow about 50cm.
Don't get stuck in the rut of the way it 'must' be done to stop doing anything at all. The world is a dangerous place. I get my hands dirty in various ways on a daily basis. And yet the only thing I do that I consider dangerous is cross the road in front of people too busy checking their radio or phone to watch the road in front of them.

Or....just look on craigslist and buy a lightly used Harbor Freight parts washer for like $30-$50.
