I made one like this with one change. I ran the return pipe into an old pillow case hose clamped on the end. That way all the trash stuff ends up in the pillow case and keeps the mineral spirits clean longer.

"Jack of all trades, master of none, but better than one"
That should be the full quote

The actual saying was “jack of all trades, master of one” the master of none part was people making fun of it and it just caught on better apparently

A jack of all trades is a master of none but is always better than a master of one.

I guess that would be OK for water based solvent, but not anything caustic or flammable at least in my shop.

Adam Batchelder thanks for watching... worked just fine and basically the same concept as the tractor supply brand. Probably not as durable... but breaks down easy and sits on shelf when not in use. Have used it a few time since this video.

Parts washers for all those times you don't have the equipment or time to piss around.
Up to about my 3rd design for larger parts but an old washing machine seems to do just as good and means i can do other stuff (only issue is solvents)

Is that "paint thinner" flammable or not?
Because in here we used paint thinner that very flammable. Or maybe it is different thing?

    • @deankay4434

+John P As an ASE Master Tech since 1978, 42 years in mostly dealerships, the parts cleaners used stoddard solvent / minerals sprits "Safety Clean" type. Never used safety glasses or gloves. latex gloves fall apart and would never wasting time with a water-based cleaners. The lid it held with a lead tab on an angled post, so if a fire happened, it would melt and drop, smother the oxygen.
Time is money as we get paid by the job, not how long it takes and no cut on parts ever. Hell, bleeding cuts washed off in solvent tank, wrap with electrical tape, keep going! Just don't bleed on the customer car. They frown on that.
If a shop pays a tech a % of parts off each repair order, I would run and drive my car out of there. I have seen $600 front disc brake jobs with pads and loaded calipers...so two sets of pads, one car. The dealer used factory parts and had it done for $165.
No gloves, no glasses, no work, no time, no money, no problems.

I don't understand the infatuation with parts washers. They're cool because they're large and they have moving components and they have a nice paint job and stuff that makes them manly but come on man! Who keeps dirtying stuff all the time to the extent they ACTUALLY need to buy one?

    • @BigRedFishDad

It reuses solvent that would otherwise be tossed or drained. It gives you a dedicated place to wash parts that you don't want in your sink. It's basically just a portable sink with a lid. If you do any refurbish work or have ever needed to wash out the carb for your leaf blower, it's a great thing to have.
