      Personally I would have loved them (RPi Foundation) to have left a standard HDMI connector, removed the DSI header and replaced it with a "HDMI" header. That way if you need the second HDMI port you can buy a converter (as you have to at the moment). It would also mean that having the HDMI like that, internal connections would be easier so you could have a cleaner install (like the official 7" RPi screen) and it gets around the issue that no one seems to be using the DSI and it's limited resolution capability.
      -edit- speeling erorr lol

  • @RaymondDay
    @RaymondDay 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    That is nice. They should add for that space a HDD plugin or SSD and a sensor to adjust the CPU Fan speed with the temp. Then I would buy it.
    Thank you for the video.

      for the time being, adding SATA/M.2 port on the daughterboard isn't worth it due to no internal wiring to USB3.0 port. Maybe in the future rpi foundation will allow it by making USB3.0 accessible throught GPIO, but realistically one should wait for Compute Module 4 which should make any wiring possible.

    • @Mmmm_tea
      @Mmmm_tea 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haziqsembilanlima to me there looks to be clearance above the pi usb ports for an usb extension to plug in and and feed back inside the case, Have seen smaller cases with less room do it. would be a great addition and use of the large empty space to the right.
      additionally the case seems big but don't have one in front of me, would a slim 60mm or 80mm fan fit ? (I know they are normally 12v but a lot of them will still spin at 5v super quiet)

    Ida designed it so the new board had the fan in it and have it sit on top instead of the side. There would have been some stuff sticking out of the side where the rerouted ports are but the case could be designed appropriately to take care of that. You'd still have everything accessible out the back... Just a different form factor.

    Amazing, no more dealing with "fragile" micro HDMI ports. Also, the location is great to have a neat and clean desktop. I was always afraid to deal with them(micro HDMI), seemed like there were going to break soon because of the wear and tear. Also they were temperamental on Rpi 4 Rev 1.1 boards. Ordering mine(1) as we speak.

      @Tweak42 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At a Pi Day event in February, Eben Upton stated that they've had little to no problems with physical fragility of the Pi 4 micro HDMI ports. With the shear numbers of Pi 4's shipped there are no ranting threads about broken micro hdmi ports on the Pi forums.

      I agree with this. I just set up my Argon One and the mini hdmi is finicky if I'm moving it around my desk. Once set up and in place though I have no issues. If Argon had a full size hdmi and power switch on the front I think it'd be the perfect case.

    • @turtlelore2
      @turtlelore2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The aesthetic of the argon one is superb and the magnetic cover allows perfect access to the GPIO. The little GPIO window on this one is pretty much impossible to use without taking the top off first. The price is the same too or a little more depending on what you want to include but it still screams of premium quality.

    • @yourtubernoob
      @yourtubernoob 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what's the big deal?? you can still utilize your Argon case because all the new board does is connect into the existing ports on the Pi, so then essentially you can just set the little new contraption into the acrylic base and only use standoff for the new PCB side.. I don't know because I don't have the Argon case but I might just pick up both and experiment just because You've now sparked my interest in this question XD

    I got this case a couple weeks ago for my Pi 4. I do like getting all ports on one side and I like the full size HDMI ports. However, it does make it rather large compared to other cases it is even larger than my Intel NUC. I do like the idea of the carbon fiber wrap so may get some of that for mine. I do think the Argon One case is probably a better option over all even though it keeps the micro HDMI ports. The main reason I went with this over the Argon case is due to availability the Argon One case showed delivery almost a month and a half out where as I got this in about 3-4 days.

  • @turtlelore2

    Theycould moved the gpios to the back aswell. Just so you could have every port on the back. Saw that the case had plenty of room left over the HDMI ports.

    It looks like you can add Geekworm's X820 board so you can have SSD/HDD or M.2 support as well. You wouldn't be able to use the case though.

    This would look even more awesome if you put that wrap on all plastics.

    I don't think the $25 is unreasonable TBH. You spend more than that for 2 good Micro HDMI adapters and this replaces them all together and it has a case. I may pick this up for my Plex Pi build. Quick question, the fan LED, is it RGB or just blue? I picked up 4 fans that are used on the Ice Tower if it's not RGB. Thanks for the video.

    It would look much better if you put that tape to all the pieces of the case. Anyway, great as always and do not forget to watch the PS5 Presentation in a few hours!

    I really like this and I would happily pay $25 for it.

    You should also get a case for the Raspberry pie because The exposed mother board could be a fire hazard. :p

    would of been amazing to see some sort of m.2 slot on the addon card to give more storage, and maybe VESA mount.

    Is there a ATX ITX PC case that has a adapter plug in board so can use it in a sturdy case?

    Looks like their would be room for them to add a place for a usb to sata or m.2 adapter for a 2.5 hard drive/ssd for media storage.

    I have to wonder at the obsession people have with the HDMI ports. I bought a couple of Vilros adapter cables and just leave them connected and connect and disconnect from there to save wear and tear. I actually prefer it that way. Of all the things for people to lose their minds over.

    What pins did you used to install the fan? Looks like the first two front ones.

    that extra empty space inside the top and bottom panel, can it fit in another 2.5'' SSD?

    This product feels like a great idea but a missed opportunity... there are cases that include 2.5" drive support over USB 3.1 and some that include IR blaster support.
    GeeekPi, if you're watching, if you wanna make a _killer_ media center / desktop case that I (and hopefully many, many others will buy), first look at Geekworm's X825 case (B07VXF2HJG on Amazon) and add the following to your case;
    ◼ 2.5" drive support with a short PCB to loop over the topmost USB 3.1 port straight back to your daughter-board and blank off the panel
    ◼ Use the ASMedia _ASM1351_ or _ASM235CM_ chipset *WITH UPDATED FIRMWARE* so that we get full speed native boot from USB 3.1, UAS/UASP support and TRIM (see link at the end)
    ◼ Support for your awesome low profile ice tower cooler so we can keep it cool whilst overclocking, possibly a secondary exhaust fan on the other side to get great airflow
    ◼ A nice power on / soft off button and a jumper on the board to set whether the board should be powered up when power is applied or not
    ◼ A lovely metal case or if transparent plastic, include a 40mm fan guard
    ◼ IR support so we can use remotes for media center control
    ◼ Feeling adventurous? Add a 3 inch OLED 256x64 screen :)
    I will happily pay $100 for that. Seriously.

    The Argon One is way sexier but they clearly missed the mark by not including full HDMI ports. At least someone brought that option to the table.

    you can get the argon one which puts all the ports on the back for that price but no large hdmi and much better looking case
