It is great, that they include the cooler, but it seems „too powerful“ for the Pi 4 even overclocked. So since they use a rather big metal case, it could have worked great, if they connected the processor directly to the metal case, maybe added some additional metal fins to better dissipate the heat, and it might have worked passively cooled! However, it really seems to be a great case as it is!

Few things I would wanna see: use the case as a heatsink (fan optional), GPIO pins should remain accessible from side through a door or something, should include a power button, If at all possible some space for a battery so it can run without being plugged in for a while, it could also really use some design elements such as angular cuts and smaller/hidden screws would be one more thing I would love to see in a V2. It's a great concept! Hey maybe you can launch a competitor! :D

I paid about $23 for the old ice tower cooler, $12 for Geeekpi's new set-top box extension board with the full sized HDMI, and $9 for a sata to usb adapter. $44 for my open air setup vs the DeskPi Pro's $54 ain't too bad for something with proper adapter boards and a case that it all fits into. I do wonder if there's a beefy enough passive heatsink that could still breathe in there. Cleaning the fan on my Ice Tower can be a bit of a pain.

It's an Ubuntu server, already got it in a dual-fan armor case but I don't like having the drive hanging off it with a dongle.. My only change would have been a different heatsink that covers the RAM and USB chip as well. Still worth it for the price, and I'll see about adapting a different heatsink into it.

I really wish that in the next new model of "Raspberry Pi", they either add
    - an M.2 port, OR
    - an SATA port, OR
    - an USB 3.2 port exclusive for SSD.
So, that it because more efficient for SSD connections (along with adding a much simpler out-of-the-box system for SSD boot-drive).

Given that the Pi Foundation focuses on low cost platforms, I doubt we'll see PCIe (or SATA, for that matter) any time soon. They add a lot of complexity to the platform, and therefore cost. As mentioned though, there are more expensive alternatives with these things integrated. A cheap SOC with integrated PCIe would be damn cool though!

Great video, and a really nice looking/functional case. This is perfect for a situation when you've reached a point where you are committing a Pi and an SSD to a particular job. If, like me, you're more into evaluating different OSs/distros, you'd want the SSD to be external (perhaps sitting between a set of rails on the top of the case). Still very cool though! 👍🏻👍🏻

This is an awesome product! The only reason I am doubting to switch this out for my Argon 1 is that you don’t have an option to keep the usb3 loop for the SSD internal. You still have to attach a knob externally to connect it but I understand the choice so you can choose to boot from SD and keep both usb3 ports.
If I wouldn’t have an Argon1, it would be a tough choice although the Argon is way smaller and offers a lot of similar functionality.

I am not sure about the cooling, but my new Muizei case is running under 40 normally, rarely topping out at 62 when running multiple windows, I think the DeskPi Pro is running at low 40's. Tho I suppose the size could be a minus for those who wanted a small portable/hidden pc.

Very nice video. The only thing I would want to add is the board for four 18650’s to attach to it. That would neglect a issue for power outages.

very cool setup, I have a question though, that heatsink is fairly massive, would a thermal pad allow the ram to contact it effectively? does it block the usb/ethernet/pcie bridge chips if we want to put some cooling blocks on them as well?

This case looks great! Even when you're not using it on the pi, you can use it as a usb3 SATA adapter. That's really handy when you need to quickly connect to a desktop PC (if you have a USB 3 A male to A male, or usb C to A Male adapter.
I wonder if the usb C on the pi 4 could be forced into host mode, like the usb power on something like the odroid c2. Since it can also act as host/OTG.
If so, it could possibly free up a usb 3 port.

They have these released now, do you have a video about installing the proprietary scripts? thanks ETA!

Cool looking case and very functional. But my only issues is sacrificing a usb port for the ssd. If only there was another way to connect the ssd to free up the usb port.

    Hi
Great review as always "a pro" :) Thank you very much.
What is the wifi performance? Does this much of aluminium affect the range?

Thanks for the video! I really like this case, but I'm confused why they didn't make one of the front USB ports 3.0. I have USB 3 thumb drives, and I don't want to have to plug them into the back of the machine to run them at full speed. Also, how's the weight? Would I have to hold it down to keep it from sliding around when I plug a USB drive into the front of the case?

Don't think I'd change anything except the screws. The blue blinky light may get a bit annoying, but it's nothing a little masking tape won't fix. I do like the cooler setup.

I ordered mine a few months ago but alas from fake shipment dates to being notified it's being shipped with tracking number to being told it was sent back because it failed inspection. Late March is the new ETA so if you want one you likely need to be a TH-cam influencer else closer to April for you. Thank you for posting future tech.

Thanks for the exposure to Pi accessories. I am very new to the SBC world and am very interested. I'm slowly gaining the knowledge to determine what to purchase first, to get started. my OS would start with windows 10 to start due to inexperience with other systems. Linux would be my next system to tackle once im up and running. Does the Desk Pi-Pro have access to the GPIO header through the case?

This company knows with channel they must send the case! I saw the case even on leepsvideo. 😉 Nice case and if I can buy it, I would do it!

Also be nice if they would have colored options for the cases with maybe some that are transparent for installing a light kit. Waiting for someone to make a Flying saucer case that is clear or transparent color for light kits.

Nice review, I just ordered one. Is there a way to access the 40 GPIO pins through the case without cutting a hole in the side?

How do you feel about this case compared to retroflags nespi case? Which would you yourself pick, and do you feel this has enough features to warrant switching over to from retroflags nespi? (as its one of the other cases with built in ssd support and adding a power button etc...)
