Have to say that a whole older generation has fallen in love with you and adopted you, musically speaking. It’s so fun and refreshing to connect with and enjoy great music with younger people. Thanks for your channel and keep up the great reactions!!
I'm 75 and have been into music since The Beatles. When I feel down, I listen to the music and I'm suddenly living my best life. The world needs music.
I am 87 year old lady and have been listening to such great music from Bessie Smith to Pink Floyd, ABB and everyone in between. So great seeing these younger people listening and getting to see first hand WHY we think our generation produced the best music
The og fans of these 70s bands must seem so unimaginably old to you ... many of us were younger than you when these songs came along. Music of your teens and 20s colors your life for the rest of your life. Especially when it changes irrevocably and something you took for granted is just gone. I hope these songs you're enjoying now will always bring you back to this moment in time for yourself, too. A good moment, a beginning. Enjoy!
😉So, it's 1979, you've just gotten your drivers license, you're taking your first drive alone, windows down, hair blowing in the wind, and this song comes on... pure bliss!
How they got their name: ***The Doobie Brothers got their name from their friend Keith "Dyno" Rosen, who suggested it after the band struggled to come up with one on their own. The name came about after the band members were often seen smoking marijuana, and whenever someone wanted to smoke a joint, they would say "Let's smoke a doobie". Rosen then suggested the band call themselves the Doobie Brothers.
They were one of my top three bands when I was like in grade school and I didn't understand any link with their name or anything. Since my name is similar to Dooby, some of the potheads in my high school nicknamed me doobie. Years later in grad school I learned from some stoner housemates that I had a special birthday, too, LOL it's like God wanted me to be a stoner or something. Not today, Satan.🥺😇
I just posted that we called marijuana joints and did not know why we ever called it a doobie..well at least I know why the Doobie Bros were called their name.
The 70's was an extension of the 60's music and personal expression. Young people were no longer under the constraints of "the establishment." Suits, ties, and buzz cuts were out, long hair, tye dye, and singing about whatever you wanted was in. Being different in music and appearance was so freeing. For me, the 70's musical lyrics and sounds went along with how I felt inside. It's could lift me when I was down, confirm and validate my feelings when no one else could, and stir up my soul for no reason at all. Even now, when I listen to my music, I get chills and my heart swells inside me to the point of bursting. I try to listen to current music but, honestly, it falls way short. I guess my expectations are too high. 😁
The 70's was truly the era of acceptance. We grew up loving music, happy to meet all kinds of people and just loving life. It was just a more positive time.
@@sandyshoenberger2697 agreed. Except for gays probably. But no period in history is perfect I agree that it felt like a much more positive, hopeful and optimistic time than now. Makes me sad, actually.

The joke on morning zoo radio with these guys is "They 'aint related, but they Do Be Brothers". Just a bunch of guys who enjoy harmonies, guitars, and 'mother nature'.
That's a masterpiece in every sense of the word! My favorite era of The Doobie Brothers is the Southern twang era. I seldom listen to the Michael McDonald era.

I was a punk rock kid in the 90s and I hated 70s music, but now that I'm in my 40s it's all I listen to! I can't wait for you to get to Steely Dan. Also Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, ELO...
I think the reason '70s music was so upbeat, is that the U.S. had just got the last of our soldiers back from the very unpopular conflict in Viet Nam in '72. All the protests and anti-war music were over, everyone was just happy and wanted to party. So the music that became popular reflected that.

Steely Dan connection - one of their guitarists (Jeff Skunk Baxter) contributed some sweet solos on Steely Dan songs, and later the Doobie Brothers adopted Michael MacDonald as a lead singer for a spell. He sang back-up on Peg and some other Dan songs and also had his own very notable career. He was the voice of the 80s, some say.
