    This song was on the radio ALL THE TIME, but not until they burst on the scene on this show, did we know they were a NATIVE band!! It was shocking, and WONDERFUL!!! This song goes on and on and on, and no one EVER gets tired of it!!

    This is from the TV show, “The Midnight Special”. I was 17 years old in 1976 and I never missed the show. We did not have internet or cable tv, no TH-cam or MTV. We had American Bandstand and Soul Train on TV in the afternoon and The Midnight Special on at night on the weekend. Live music and comedians. I remember watching this one back then. Great music, great time to be a teenager😁

    This song by REDBONE was on the radio everyday, all day, back in the 70's, when I was a kid. It was a HUGE hit. It was a one hit wonder but nonetheless we couldn't get enough of it and still sounds just as good today as it did then. Glad you two discovered it's origins and that it triggered memories, as it does for all of us 70's kids. The song was used in a couple of movies, tv shows and commercials over the years. Most recently "Guardians of the Galaxy".

    They called themselves Redbone precisely because they are of mixed breeds (Mexican, Native American) and the term Redbone is used to denote this. It is used all over the South in America but the races usually associated with the term differ depending on region. If you ever saw the Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, it was featured in it, so that may be where you've heard it before. If you lived in The States, you would also have heard it in various commercials.
    Now, for other songs, probably their other best known song is Witch Queen of New Orleans ... a GREAT song, especially for this time of year. However, there's a groovy/funky little number called, Maggie, and another, which sounds a bit more like Native American music called, Wovoka.

    Redbone is the only funk rock band made up of all Mexican & Native American heritage members. This was reflected in their songs, stage costumes & album art. "Come & Get Your Love" was their biggest hit in 1974. This song was used in the 2014 movie "Guardians Of The Galaxy". But they had some other songs such as "We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee", "The Witch Queen Of New Orleans", "Wovoka", "Maggie" etc.

    You might be interested to know that, although he wasn't in Redbone, Jesse Ed Davis was a Native American guitarist who played the opening guitar solo on Jackson Browne's 1972 hit song "Doctor My Eyes. He was phenomenal and played with many other big, well-known, names in rock and roll.

    • @2017gs
      @2017gs หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Jesse Ed Davis' album "Keep Me Comin'" is great! It's probably available on all the steaming services. There's a 14 minute interview with Jesse Ed Davis on the bonus version, well worth listening to. Another great Native rocker is Grant-Lee Phillips, both with the group Grant Lee Buffalo and his solo work.

    These guys had a few songs that made you want to dance. Talking about songs that really evoke emotion, perhaps you 2 would enjoy "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul 1973. I was only 17 but this song made me cry every time I heard it. (the strings alone are magic).

    I saw them in concert 21 Jan 1972 in Williamsburg, Virginia. They rocked the house! This song has become iconic for the early 1970s. It's been used many many times in film and television. I bought all their albums in those years. I loved their music. I think everyone has heard this song at some point in time because it's been included so often in movie sound tracks.

    I'm surprised that there are only reactions to this song by Red Bone on TH-cam. The band made several good songs in the 1970s. "We Were All Woonded at Woonded Knee" was a Native American theme and "The Wich Queen Of New Orleans" is also very good.
