I love reaction chanles . It reminds me of sitting with my friends , listening to music . So these are my new friends , and love sitting and listening to music with them .
Rock band Redbone is a member of the Native American Hall of Fame, as well as the legendary Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. Just a little trivia info for you today.
As someone who's from Louisiana i can concur that this is true. You can tell the Redbone. They have a beautiful reddish brown color to their skin and very angled appearance. There are lots of communities and festivals in regards to them and their history
Shoshone Represent!!!! We got tunes... from back in the day to today, we got dancing and singing, it's definitely our thing. If you grew up on the Rez you heard these guys constantly.
Friday nights in the 70s were awesome for 2 reason's - Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. First national appearances for ands like Fleetwood Mac and ground breaking stuff from Rolling Stones & Bowie.
This song makes me proud to be an American Indian! The Naitive dress they used for special ceremonies and traditional powwows are presented on stage with this song reminiscent of the ancestral tradition.
The opening always makes me think about what we seem to have lost over the years. "Check out our culture, it's awesome" has been replaced by "This is ours, you can't appreciate it" as people went from building bridges to manning walls.
I always refer to this song as a hidden gem of the 70's. I love watching the reaction from people who had no clue! Haha! Everyone knows the song, not everyone knows Redbone. This is one of my favorite songs, always has been. ❤
Priceless Reaction!!! You’ve seriously brought back some happy memories. My dad Eli was Okla. Cherokee, & way back in the day there were three songs that blasted in our house. This amazing song, “Indian Reservation” by Paul Revere & The Raiders, and of course “Eli’s Coming” by Three Dog Night. Thanks😊
The song originally 8 minutes long. The producer said it would never get airplay. Lolly worked all night to shorten it enough. Other songs are: We Were Wounded At Wounded Knee Witch Queen Of New Orleans One More Time Tennessee Girl Niji Trance Chant 13th hour Light As A Feather Suzi Girl And many more. They were passionate about their heritage. And yes this is from 1973. Wavoka from that album was very popular too.
Pat and Lolly Vegas were incredible studio session guitarists. From the 1950's through the early 80's. They fully embraced their native american ancestry.
Thanks, guys.. I saw this live performance on TV as a teenager, and already knew the song from "radio".. I was amazed.... what a talented group... appreciated the native American info... nobody on "radio" told us that sh*t! appreciate your reactions...
I’m a kindergarten teacher and in 2014 those five year olds know this song as from Guardians of the Galaxy …. It’s also the intro song to F is for family …which is hilarious. I always love when reactors do this song ❤
A friend of mine toured with him back in the 70's. Leon was such an enigma to most & my friend didn't enlighten me any more about him. He was such a unique musician & person. Glad you brought up Mr. Redbone! Thanks & cheers!
Loved the powwow I was privileged to see while living in Colorado in the 90's...had friends in the Ute tribe . This was southern part of state...you can keep Denver lol
Thanks, I knew I would find the info in the comments. You didn't disappoint and it was what I suspected. My great-grandmother on my mother's dad's side was a full blooded native but not sure on the tribe but could be Iroquois.
What you said in the beginning is very true! The exposure you give to many artists, to people that otherwise would never have seen them, is much appreciated! (At least by me lol) ❤
“Red & yellow, black & white, they are precious in His sight.”❤😊Was it you who recently reacted to Ray Stevens “Everything is Beautiful”? If not, it’s great! I’ll look back. 😊😊
My band in the early '70s, Axis, from S. FL played a rock festival with these guys in Williston, FL north of Gainesville. They rocked the festival of 20,000 attendees.
This song was extremely popular in the 70's, I loved it and it was a personal favorite. I was in grade school the first time I heard it, 6th grade I think. He does look like Lou Diamond Philips.
Redbone is the first Native group to make the top ten on Billboard. Their placement in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is perfect. I have one for you, BP: "Jeff Beck Group" is the name of the album and check out "Ice Cream Cakes" or "Sugar Cane" as well as other songs on the album. Jeff BEck was one of the guitar gods of the sixties and beyond who came out of the British Invasion of the "60's" This album is from 1972 and you won't regret it. I'll be watching for it.
🇬🇧 Great reaction👌. Joe's face was a picture for sure. And it's reactions like this is why I LOVE reaction channels. Don't get me wrong, I don't subscribe to lots of reaction channels, (including yourself, 6). ❤🎼🎶
I heard this song over and over and over. But I never saw the band that sang it. I am blown away that they are Native American Indians. Never knew. Just never knew. Mind blown.
Starlord had a tape and player of the music he liked in his backpack when he was kidnapped.. and thats all he had from home.. so that tape of music was very important to him. The present his dying mother gave him he never opened.. so at end of 1st movie he opens it and she made another tape of songs.. 70s.. Then 80s..
I love when joee is on here. I immediately subscribed to his channel after his reaction with you to Falling in Reverse. He's amazing!! I'd love to see him on here more.
Heard this in the Uk when i was about seven . Amazing band and reaction videos bring old , young , past , present and world wide together! Also what a beautiful way to celebrate music especially for artists who have passed away there legacy and talent l7ves on and bring people together. Reaction videos rock ❤❤❤
Great song and great band! My husbands family is Native American from Washington State, Neah Bay and the Makah Nation. My daughters are biracial black and white and my oldest daughter was called redbone as a teen girl in the early 2000’s. Enjoy this song it’s great to dance too when you have a get together or party! ❤
They started this video with a part of an authentic "Pow-Wow" before the transition into the song. You should witness the entire thing. Pretty cool for a band comprised of all Native Americans.
I love this song!!!! I've been listening to it ever since then!! Got it from the main vine!! Then they finish it with some epic scat! Watch the long illustration of this song! It's fun! 😆😆💋🍹💋🎉💃👵🐺🌵
You've seen the ribbon symbol that's all different things? It all started from a song by Tony Orlando and Dawn called 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree' give a listen if you want to know where the ball started rolling. They are another mixed race group that made it.
I just realized that this intro is almost the same as the intro that Outkast used in their Hey Ya 2004 Grammy's performance. I don't believe that's a coincidence. 😂
I am glad you are doing these reactions and learning how good we had it back then. It was all about the music we didn't care who made it or what they looked like.
The bassist is Pat Vegas and the one singing is his brother "Lolly" Vegas. They are of Indigenous (Yaqui/Shoshone) Mexican descent. The other guitarist (dancing) is Tony Bellamy. He is listed as Indigenous (Yaqui) Mexican descent. Lou Diamond Phillips is of Scots-Irish and Cherokee descent via his father. Nothing noted about his mother. Both (Pat Vegas and Phillips) are handsome men and there is some similarity present in their features and stage presence when they were both younger. Diamonds played Ricky Valens in La Bamba.
I worked with a lady who knew the drummer and he told her the song was about Heroin - listen to the song again - I wish I didn’t know that as I love this song!
Dont worry about offending indians as far as looks we know we're beautiful.
10,000 % :)
Yes you are beautiful and so are all humans. Some choose not to be but celebrate all together and we can be one united species!! Great song 🤘🏻🇺🇸💯
@@JDfromPhilly awe shucks!😊😊🤪
@@Mvtobebo We love y’all ❤️
Indeed
I can listen to this on repeat for DAYS!!! *REDBONE* never got the credit they deserved and still deserve!!!
I love reaction chanles . It reminds me of sitting with my friends , listening to music . So these are my new friends , and love sitting and listening to music with them .
Same
Agree so very talented
Me too!! 😊
They definitely belong in the RnR HoF
Midnight Special was absolutely terrific in the 70s.
Nothing like it on TV now.. But with utube.. maybe it's the folks that self produce like you?
Wolfgang Jack !
@@dawnyoung8 Wolfman Jack was one of the consistent hosts. They also had guest hosts.
We got to see so many great groups!
I loved it. I'd sneak and stay up late to watch it
Rock band Redbone is a member of the Native American Hall of Fame, as well as the legendary Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. Just a little trivia info for you today.
They definitely should be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame too.
Done live, no lip sync, no auto tune and maybe better than the recorded version. These guys were really good.
Fun performance, but the recorded version is even funkier.
Let the midnight special shine it's ever loving light on you. This is back when rock and roll was universal Great reaction guys rock on
I like when young folks hear real music NO AUTOTUNE! Just talent
you reacting to your bro's reaction here explains perfectly why people like reaction videos. The joy you had right there is what we have.
If I remember correctly, Redbone is a term that came out of Louisiana and originally meant anyone who was mixed race.
As someone who's from Louisiana i can concur that this is true. You can tell the Redbone. They have a beautiful reddish brown color to their skin and very angled appearance. There are lots of communities and festivals in regards to them and their history
I LOVE how they represented their culture at the beginning, then transitioned to the awesome song. LOVE 70s music (and Ren ❤)
Star-Lord Dance - Opening Credits Scene - Come and Get Your Love - Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
😀😀😀😀😀😀
Redbone is referring to native american. The first all native american band to make the top 40. they were even more popular in some foriegn countries.
Redbone is referring to being a half breed it’s Rez slang
The look on your buddy's face "oh, sh*t!!"
Shoshone Represent!!!! We got tunes... from back in the day to today, we got dancing and singing, it's definitely our thing. If you grew up on the Rez you heard these guys constantly.

Just straight up great music every week. Only time I was ever home before curfew.
Not uncommon for us to leave the party/pub early to make sure we got home in time for the Midnight Special.
I loved his mouth drop 😧❤
This has to be Redbone's best song. I hadn't heard it for years till Guardians of the galaxy came out
This song makes me proud to be an American Indian!
The Naitive dress they used for special ceremonies and traditional powwows are presented on stage with this song reminiscent of the ancestral tradition.
We lived through the best music in the 70s!! 😍😍
Remember how you felt seeing your friend's eyes light up with recognition... That is why we watch you, too! 💋😆👵

Yeah, they said the same thing about Bohemian Rhapsody and Frankenstein. 😂
I love Redbone! Terrific band. I still listen to their music.
RIP Lolly!

Nice reaction, yeah the term Redbone is a Louisiana Cajun epithet for half-breed.
ok, here's another Redbone. Leon Redbone. Without my walking stick.
A friend of mine toured with him back in the 70's. Leon was such an enigma to most & my friend didn't enlighten me any more about him. He was such a unique musician & person. Glad you brought up Mr. Redbone! Thanks & cheers!
I see reactors as modern day music journalists.
I love to watch the ceremonial dancing! So graceful and beautiful!
Lou Diamond Phillips is Filipino, but he's also ambiguously ethnic so he can play Latinos and First Nations.
Yep, Redbone here lol with Joe E Sparks ✨️ & BP! Let's goooOoOoo 🔥 💃 🤍✌️
I love their reaction😂😂😂. I heard this many moons ago😂. I gre up in the 70s with a gypsy, hippie, biker chick mom.great music❤
Loved the powwow I was privileged to see while living in Colorado in the 90's...had friends in the Ute tribe . This was southern part of state...you can keep Denver lol
Lou diamond Phillips American dad was English, scots, irish and Cherokee.
His mum was Filipino.
His real last name is upchurch.

What you said in the beginning is very true! The exposure you give to many artists, to people that otherwise would never have seen them, is much appreciated! (At least by me lol) ❤
They called themselves Redbone from what I understand because some of the band members were Native and Mexican mixed.
Love that men’s fancy dance pow wow category at the beginning!
Cliff Beats reaction to this was gold!
“Red & yellow, black & white, they are precious in His sight.”❤😊Was it you who recently reacted to Ray Stevens “Everything is Beautiful”? If not, it’s great! I’ll look back. 😊😊
great song, thanks next you should do Witch Queen of New Orleans :) great vid
In Britain this brilliant song has been used for years and years in so many adverts. Very iconic ❤
This is another iconic performance from your archaeological dig.
Please remember, "Music has no color".
Loved it all over again! 🎉🎉😊
I watch Joe!! He definitely needs to listen to the older music more!! But I love him ❤
as popular as this is my first awareness of Redbone was their other big hit Witch Queen Of New Orleans
I instantly knew what was coming from the title of the song. Never heard of the group name. Nuts! Great job guys!

But I had no idea what they looked like. This is awesome! Thanks man!
Listen to their song, "Witch Queen of New Orleans."
The song is also used as the opening theme to Bill Burr's hysterical cartoon, F Is for Family.
Yep just left same comment

Proud to be a Mexican from Coalinga California. They spoke MEXICAN. Like Pat and Lolly Vasquez. They spoke Mexican.
This song is also the intro theme for the Bill Burr animated comedy series "F Is For Family" on Netflix...great show!
Yep I just left the same comment funny show
I listened to this banger a lot when I was a teenager. They were H.O.T.
I just realized that this intro is almost the same as the intro that Outkast used in their Hey Ya 2004 Grammy's performance. I don't believe that's a coincidence. 😂
Dude! I just watched this video the other day, and I didn't see it at the time, but now I can't unsee it. Lou Diamond Phillips!

Great song! CLASSIC!
Wow, takes me back to high school. We listened to everything.
