To anybody watching this, a few things to add... 1. Check the side stand, the threads can strip and cause a wobbly kickstand, which can result in a cracked crank case . The kickstand is attached to the crankcase. 2. The battery cover is notorious for falling off and very expensive to replace. The quick fix is to drill a hole and attach zip ties. 3. The older models had valve guide issues I have a 2009 Ducati Multistrada 1100s and everything in this video is 100%..amazing bike thats very comfortable to ride for long distances. Not overly powerful but enough. Great review
Did you have the problem with kickstand and the crankcase? I am currently having wobbly kickstand on this bike and my mechanic told me I should weld kickstand to the case...
I own a Ducati with an open dry clutch and just love the attention I get from novices good and bad. I had one guy stop me and demanded that I don't ride it because the engine was broken.
I had a guy yelling "oil" at me one time, at first i was thinking he wanted some oil, then...ahhh yes he is just confused! Thanks for checking out the video!
I've owned a ton of bikes over many, many years and the one I still love is my ds1000. I live on a dirt road so it gets used on and off pavement. It's also the bike I get the most comments on.
My 2005 Duc 1000 DS is a black beauty, has performance chip, open clutch plate and Terminogni exhaust…… awesome all around ride even today since I bought it new
I owned the S model and loved the bike. I believe the Ohlins on the S model makes it superior to the base model. The front end is kind of fugly but that keeps the cost down as if it was a home run more people would want one. The comments directly below are all on point. On top of that use loctite on fasteners and check them regularly including all brackets and fairing fasteners. Add an upgrade direct ground from the battery to the engine block is always a good idea. The open clutch is relatively quiet with new clutch plates but gets loud soon as the clutch plate tangs deform causing them to slap against the clutch basket. The clutch pull is stiff. I found an aftermarket slave cylinder did not help much. Being a air cooled engine you can get weeping gaskets in hotter climates. In the end my age, the clutch pull and seat height made me sell it on.
Some great points! They are an interesting bike, and a bit quirky I was not a fan when they came out, but now it's good to see interesting bikes like this! Now and then
Ironic... I'm visiting my hometown of Livermore, CA right now. I see a 1000DS on my mom's street. I look up the bike on TH-cam and see your review in Livermore!
Ha! No way. A new video about an old Ducati. I have an 06 S model with 26K miles. I've owned many nice bikes including 4 Triumph 955/1000 Triples and overall I still love the Duc the most. Close call with a couple of those Triumphs those. Very close. I have a Termi slip on that I am getting an ECU tune on to get the most out of it, and one day I may do the De-Cat but I just dropped all kinds of money on new clutch, tires, chain & sprocket. Yes I have a naked clutch. Thanks for the video I'll make one this summer! Also I had wanted to go up 2 in the back but I forgot to remind my dude when he ordered the parts so I'm still at 42. And oh, someone did a great job of crinkle-coating the footpeg assemblies, belt guards and your clutch cover. I have the CF belt guards but I am tempted to see about crinkle-coating those peg assemblies because they are perpetually dirty. Also your thumbnail says 1100. 1100 has wet clutch. Lastly get the frame sliders. Trust me.
Such a hreat selection of bikes! I just got a 2009 Ducati hypermotard 1100s, if i can keep my license long enough i will get a video out on that Sunday morning
These bikes, in good shape are a great value, they are increasing in value and use a simple reliable design! they also have that true Ducati sound~ Thank you
@@TRCAdventures I bought it from a museum a couple of years ago. It had only 300 miles then. The museum was trying to free up some inventory and I inquired about the bike; mainly because I totally love Ducatis. When I asked what was special about the bike (other than the ridiculously low mileage), they showed me the paperwork. It was actor Bruce Willis' personal Ducati, which he bought new from Ducati of Beverly Hills in 2005. I bought it telling my wife that I was going to sell it (she doesn't like motorcycles) but I just hid it inside an AC facility for the last two years until I find some time to get her back on the road. Finally found time to get her out last week (the bike, not the wife) and rode it, AS IS to the Ducati dealership. Had everything done, from tires (still had the originals from 15 years ago), timing belts, battery, fluids, chain tension, fuel system....everything new with hopes of escaping on a long adventure ride soon. The dealership guys were amazed to see one of these today, still looking like brand new. Totally original. I put 109 miles over the weekend and I agree with you. SMOOTH!!!
Yes a lot of these older bikes seam to have these issues, with fuel gauge reading. I would think that completely not acceptable in a car but we put up with it on a bike ugh. Thanks for checking out the video
Noticed the slow crank on start up. My 09 1100s does the same sometimes. Hate that haha. Took me a while to appreciate it for what it is. I'm in Colorado. Def going to fit some adventure tires and hit the dirt fire service roads that go for miles in the mountains once my street tires are worn out. My bike is pretty mint. Do you still own yours?
I only had that for a short time in the shop, the slow crank got better by cleaning the ground terminal at the starter, I also cleaned the terminal at the battery even though it looked fine, all other grounding points should be checked regularly. This helped quite a bit, but it still seemed to crank slower than other bikes! These bikes are getting a bit rare in good clean condition it's always a pleasure to see one on the road!
i saw one in los angeles. i thought its new because its super clean. if i remember right its 8k miles only. the guy said he paid $4k few years ago. im super jelous. i asked him if he wants to sell it, he answered fast "no" LOL
Yeah I can understand him not wanting to sell it! But they can be found in good condition and for not much more or about the same as the price he was talking about.
Bought the baby 'Strada the 620, great commuter & all-around machine. Apparently Bruce W. owned two of these. There's a black one out there claiming it was his too.
Amazing video friend. Can I ask if it's durable enough for trips?? I wouldn't want issues or anything like that to happen while I'm on the road. Also I've heard that this particular model have some issues with the valve system. Please answer if you know anything on that matter
Well, i would have to answer by saying, like all older Ducati's they require proper maintenance and a keen eye on mechanical systems, if you are a person that likes to tinker and maintain your bike at all times, the bike will take you to the end of the earth. If you are a set it and forget it type rider, i put myself in this category even though i love to work on bikes, then it is likely you shoukd not look at Ducati for a long distance travel bike, and definitely not the older Ducati's. Long distance trips for me are 7 to 10,000 mile trips,
@@TRCAdventures first thanks for your fast response friend. I believe that I have nothing else to say on this, you covered me completely. Well its a very attractive ride and I bet that most bike lovers want a bike like this but I guess that I will highly regret it if I buy one cause I know that everything is insanely expensive when it comes to Ducatis so I better move on to something less demanding. @@DustyVisorMotorcycles eventually i ended up getting the tiger 955i 2004 model which was always in my top 5 list. On the gen one, i think its possible however i have not done it, but this bike seems to have more room for the passenger and rider than the gen 2. I’m a newer rider. Minimal experience on the road. Maybe an hour in total. I know about the service intervals and possibly doing own maintenance but how would these go as far as beginner bike .. I just think they offer a lot for what they are on the used market. . Usually they are well taken care of too
@@christophergonzales7876 I don't think they make for a good beginner bike. Tall seat, abrupt power, non standard riding position and finicky maintenance/ servicing.
