      No, the instructions were vague and ambiguous. They did not inform the user of the optimum time to expose to air prior to use. They either didn't provide any information at all or provided inadequate information. Through experimentation he discovered the optimum air exposure time for maximum battery life and that is the sort of thing a scientist or engineer does. He also provided evidence not mentioned in this video that the battery manufacturers are dishonest since they probably already knew this but refused to provide it because maximizing battery life would cut into their profits.

    WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT....not to sound jealous, but this kids getting praise for discovering something that was already printed on a label....Granted not many people know about it. But still, i guess this saves Hearing aid users some cash.......But he shouldnt take up a time slot cause he discovered something that some knew already existed. I mean i didnt even know it did, but i've never used these batteries, maybe once to power my sisters little barbie girl toy phones or something, but nothing important. It's the equivalent of someone saying that if you turn your xbox flat, instead of standing it up on it's side, the game won't get as scratched up, and getting praised for knowing it. I mean it's not common knowledge, but he didn't invent the xbox, he just knows something that SHOULD be common knowledge.....I am impressed with his project and analysis though........

      *sigh*, fine, long story short this kid did an experiment that, while impressive in procedure, shouldn't be praised for what he's done. All he did was simply test something that, sure not everyone knew, but was even printed on the back of most, if not some, battery packs.

      Depressing dot Co. I agree 100%. Its already known and printed on the pack. It basically just saves a select group of people a couple bucks. Its like reading a hazard sign and then going around everywhere screaming "THE FLOOR IS INDEED WET EVERYBODY, I REPEAT, THE FLOOR IS WET" No shit, its plastered on that hazard sign.

    I successfully trained a goldfish to swim through an elaborate maze in 3 weeks in 17 seconds VS a rosie minnow who couldn't finish the maze at all and even discovered how fish can be trained to respond to sound so that fisherman can release their stocks and then call them back after training them because fish in the wild are healthier than factory fish and this kid gets an award for reading in middle school.

  • @daveinsanityinanutshell3062
    @daveinsanityinanutshell3062 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The reason he was awarded was not from reading the package. The manufactures reconmend 1 min exposure before use. Thru scientific method, he determined the optimal exposure time of 5 minutes to gain max output life . The company's might be aware of this but why decrease sales by giving customer's 2 extra days use per week(5-7 days sited) per unit. Avg cost per unit approx. $0.30 per unit, 2 days extra per week x52 weeks 104 extra days. A cost savings of $4.50 annually per customer. According to www.hear-it.org 10 million people wear hearing aids alone translated as approximately + $45 million in overall sales lost on this aspect alone just in hearing aid driven sales if 100% implementation of his method of 5 minutes wait.

      He did give evidence behind his claims look him up through Google like many people did. The media only covers the gist of things, especially if it's a high school science fair. Is his experiment useful? Very just not for you and probably why you think it's stupid. Hearing aid batteries can be hefty pricing 50-70$ CAD for pack of 5. So having a 2 day increase on each is very useful.

    • @TheGrayWolf81
      @TheGrayWolf81 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luke Fex I get that it's useful, and I don't think that it's stupid. But what I DO believe is stupid is that he didn't discover anything (it was already known before), yet he is now well known for something he never did. And like I said before, it's not the kid's fault, but the rest of the people who made a big deal out of it.

    • @ConnorEtch
      @ConnorEtch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TheGrayWolf81 Exactly, it even showed you a picture of the instructions on the batteries saying to leave them out for a minute before use so they last longer. He saw that and just thought, Ohh I'll take that and do an experiment to see if it works. Which obviously it does because, well, it's an the instructions of something. Title should be "Kid gets credit for reading something most people don't read"

    This is interesting! I mean, I guess he deserves recognition, but there are a lot of other kids out there who have done so much but received little. I don't mean to be rude, but I have an anecdote (I hope you like reading):
    When I was in 8th grade, a group of my friends and I compiled some research into a national competition (ExploraVision or Siemens or one of them). In short, it had to do with enhanced modifications to the current Cochlear implant device that implemented advanced techniques dealing with nanotechnology to allow a fully interior integrated implant (with other modifications allowing more effective hearing transmission) compared to the current, bulkier (though still minimally intrusive) model.
    We got some recognition from the school and everything, and that was neat! We even made it into the "Top 500 Honorable Recognitions" in the country, but still, I think we fell victim of circumstance, as winner in another region (the competition is divided into regions) won the regionals with an invention dealing with the Cochlear implant, as well. I am not trying to sound jealous or annoyed, but my point is...
    We all need to be more aware of the amazing innovations youths are coming up with. There are so many entries into these competitions every year and it's like you barely hear about ANY OF THEM. That's what bothers me. We did so much work, and got a certificate (and a solar-powered globe) to show for it. Nothing more. I am incredibly grateful. It was a priceless experience. But so many schools and competitions receive these entries and not much more is done in many cases. While discoveries like this kid made are really encouraging and outstanding, we also need to hone in on the other outstanding works students across the country are striving to do!
    Thanks for reading. ;) Good luck to this kid and to all others in their future endeavors.

      Jadon Ogala Ogala Great! Develop it into a comprehensive research and analysis-or any presentable form for that matter-and show people your idea. Make sure to claim it as yours so nobody else can take it. If it is a serious idea you want to take far, you can try getting a patent for it, but then you would probably have to prove that your idea will be developed.

I was tasked to create an artificial AI with 3 other guys and we have came a long way. My job is to build the physician parts of the project and they all help code with me. It's very difficult but we're close to finishing. We've got up to the point where you can have a conversation with the AI by voice command. I'm hoping to finish it in 4/5 months.

    This kid got lucky, all he did was read a label,then after he got all that fame he started thinking he was smart one example is 1:36, and if that want enough they actually tried to compare him to scientists and people with big titles when all he did was discover one life hack,while you can discover lots just by going to TH-cam.
