The little person, full of curiosity and dreams, defies the demon who, with a cold heart and eyes, wants to destroy the living, beautiful, emotional. But love is stronger, the urge to live, the longing for beauty, the incredibleness of creation. I can't hear it without being moved. blossom-tender ! Khachatryan a flow of emotions. Thanks!

What an emotional rollercoaster! After going through the ominous feeling of terror, political frenzy, and mournful reflection, I just lost all words for the last chapter other than saying how it made me cry uncontrollably. Esp. as it follows the passacaglia which is filled with not only sadness but also sounds like Shostakovich ruminating over his own role and guilt in all that transpired. No one survives totalitarianism without losing a piece of themselves. Those who hold on to every part are either in jail or lost their lives.

For example just listen to the part starting at 36:10 and how he waits for the orchestra, and the impact it has, and compare that to any other recording out there. No match.

That's some tuba power starting at 24:16 giving some backbone to an already mesmerizing performance.
Between 28:17 to 29:00 it's almost if the feeling of "Menace" was put into sound.
I'm no classical expert, but from the work i heard from Shotstakovitch most give me a sense of gravity coupled to the ineluctability of history that can't be stopped. In addition i think he retranscribes what threat means in music to the omnious level.
I came here from twoset violin as well to see the entire piece and it's great, thanks to the orchestra, conductor and Mr Khachatryan.
